I think he covers only one side of the crypto concept.

1) There is so much potential behind blockchain technology that can solve some problems of people. For instance, we can avoid mediators like banks and keep our money safe.

2) Now it's a whole industry with people working for it. From exchanges like Binance, crypto market cap services like Coin360, mining farms to hodlers.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and it doesnt matter what people think, the truth is really difficult to handle and in reality we are now facing new changes in financial technology like cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. Opinions of such prominent individual like Bill Gates are alright and as long as he is not stepping out of his own limitations and as long as he's not enforcing his opinion to be followed by other people.

He does have a point but I know he has bitcoins and is doing well with it but yeah, maybe since cryptocurrencies do not have any regulations hence it's not easy to detect illegal activities using it. But will it be different from banking? Your guess is as good as mine.
