Meh.
Half an hour left until matches. Looking forward to PSG - MAN Utd one. I believe we will see some good football and nice goals in this one.

I wanted to play nice CL double today but I really don't know what to play in Porto-Roma game. .

Porto to win AND advance! Cheesy

It seems I was just too late to enter the sidebet, but I would have not bet on my team (spurs) even if given the chance. I do not know what that says about me but I am always realistic with my teams. I knew when we were 2nd in league it was a fairy tale and now we are through to the Last 8, I do not want to think more than this.

I even predicted them to lose last night. Maybe we are so used to losing,,, this is very strange! I have predicted 2 goals for 1 each in the Portugal and France soil.

Oh good cos I was totally busy and forgot making my predictions.  Lol.

Anyway, here's an update on our little side bet just to make it look 'official' (thanks for the back up LFC).

BCT's CL Pool Side Bet:  Which Club Progresses the Furthest?

tokeweed:  City
buwaytress:  LFC
Hhampuz:  Juve
hahay:  Barca
mdayonliner:  PSG

(BitcoinSupremo:  Inter - Out)
(Trofo:  Real - Out)
LOL I completely forgot about this topic. Good to see PSG is still here however today we will decide PSG's fate. I hope they will get an easy win against Man Utd and there will be no disaster like yesterday that happened with Real.

Hahahaha wow. Rubber ducks across the board. Not a single person scored a single point this evening.

Bye Bye Trofo lol (sorry mate)

Well, I don't feel too bad about since I entered the contest when my first 4 choices were already taken. Real was just a way to be part of our side bet. I never really hoped i could win this, or said in a different way that Real can lift the trophy 4 times in a row. Granted my second a third choice (Juve & LFC) could also be out in this stage. Just shows how hard it is too predict CL.

Too continue in the same tone I am glad you all got duckies. I was a bit concerned for my top spot in the pool  Grin

I met a guy yesterday who put almost 2000 EUR on Ajax to win with odds of 5.9. We were playing football and missing one guy and he stepped in. And showed us a ticket at begging of the match. I don't know if that is serious money for him or peanuts but anyway you have to have balls to play a bet like that.

Meh.
I'm not feeling too good about my Juve bet but we'll see.. Incredible how shite Real has turned out, remember when Ronaldo left and they were all like "Nobody is bigger than the club"? Lol.

Ramos lools like an asshole now doesj’t he - Picks up a ‘tactical’ booking in the 1st leg so he doesn’t moss the 1st leg of what he thought was a probable 1/4 final.

What an idiot.

I think Real will get even worse next season - Bals, Ramos, Modric, Benzema all 30+

Haha, oh boy Ramos.. You are right, turns out that was a horrible decision.

And yep I couldn't agree with you more, seems they'll only go downhill from here. With the rumors of Bale wanting to leave as well.. They could very well go out in groups next year. It's a bit of a shame but then again, it was getting boring with them winning every year Cheesy

Edit - I wouldn’t rule Juve out Hhampuz. Only got to win 2-0 in 90 mins to take it to ET

^  It's fine here if hilariousandco doesn't mind.  We already did side bets before and used the BCT pool threads without any problems.

Anyway here's the final list of those in the side bet.  Feel free to quote and nest it with another quote.

Don't forget your picks for tonight's games.

^  Without VAR, I don't think those two instances would be penalties.  And wasn't the Fernandinho one offside?  Who gets a penalty for being offside?  Lmao.

VAR out.

Exactly what I thought too. Not to mention that first penalty took what.. 5 minutes to decide on? That's just stupid, there should be a window where VAR can be used or not and it should have to be conclusive evidence.

VAR on the whole is good, but it needs tweaking as it's not working efficiently. It's really annoying now seeing players wait in limbo before they celebrate to see if it's a goal or not. I think the offside rule needs changing as well. It was implemented to stop strikers goal-hanging and players just oofing the ball up to them, but should we be disallowing goals because a player was a milometer off side? Who gives a shit. And then we have to wait for the ref to watch the replay 5 times to see whether it should be allowed or not. Great goals are sometimes disallowed because of this and it's silly. Let them play football rather than worrying about having to deal with an offside trap and being an inch offside. VAR should be used similarly as it is in Tennis. Give them three appeals and that's it. The ref should probably just take the opinion of the VAR officials as well rather than having to trot on over to the sideline. There's already too much stoppages in football. This is an interesting video on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mB70iAqk-9I&t=28s

In some games you only get about 40 minutes of actual football and the rest is waiting for players to take throw ins and goal kicks. The clock should be stopped when it's not in play and then there'd be no injury time or time wasting which is pretty much common practice for teams that are in front now.

I believe VAR has already improved the game. I had no objection to it during World Cup even though some decisions in the final went against us (Croatia).

Granted, there has to be some tweaking to avoid the situations described in prevision posts. For instance I would grant 4th referee (the one who would replace main referee in case of injury) more decision making privileges. For instance in the situation from Italy he could have watched the incident and told main referee to stop the game before the goal was scored and nobody would be talking about that situation. Don't know why the main referee has to be one to watch all situations and make decision. Others could do it in 95% of situations and leave just unclear ones to the main ref.

Such a tough night for predictions. I guess it wasn't impossible to predict Athletico win, but not 2-0. And 90% of the predictors picked City to win, but how many guessed 3-2? I didn't watch the games but it looks like City had a really tough time, to give away 2 penalties and then get Otamendi sent off. But a huge team like them, they can probably lose 2 or 3 players and still play someone who can fit into any first 11 of any team.

I slip back to 6th place. Not many games left to catch up to #1!

City didn't have a tough time but they got 2 bullshit penalties against them.. If anything Schalke got extremely lucky while offering nothing besides the two pens.

I mean, City scored 2 goals within 5 minutes with 10 on the pitch after Otamendis red card. Strange game, weird ref but it is what it is. I expect the return to end 5-0 or better.

I agree with you guys about VAR and I hoped for so long we would never see it but I think now we cannot avoid it. I think there are still ways to go about it, using video without interrupting the game too much. I do enjoy football and how it flows so much, which is why I also hate referees who stop the game so much for every small foul, they should learn to flow with the game and allow things to happen, so VAR should really do the same.

At the end of the day we always find it difficult to accept change. Remember the offside rule?

I agree, if it can be contained and used within reason I have no issues with it for certain situations but it's like a game that was being played in Italy last week I believe, there was a questionable decision just outside of the goal but the ref let it go on which made the other team counter attack and score a goal a few minutes later, after their goal was scored and celebrated ref gets the VAR Call and gives the other team (that just conceded a goal) a penalty from the previous situation, this cancelling out the newly scored goal.

Sorry if it is confusing but man that pissed me off so much that I can't even type it out with a straight face, lol.

All my predictions gone wrong LOL, only one "Result" prediction on Manchester City. I think I have no chances to boost my rank on the leaderboard till the end of the tournament but I'll keep trying.

Didn't even check the situation on site but I am quite sure that this particular bunch of games were tough for all of us. I would be quite surprised if anybody got correct score on 0:0 draws on Tuesday. I expected lot of goals in both games.

^  And it delays the action unnecessarily.  Not only is it taking the human factor out of the game, it's making the game a bit boring imho.

It's the thing I appreciate most in football...  The continous action.  No commercials, no distractions, just continous action of the beautiful game.  And they're taking it away.  Sad
