I've reached a functional form of a "replacement" as of now and would like some feedback while working on a final version. For the time being downloads are free but subject to change.

https://untorrent.me/

Known issues:
  • Leave the page, download is gone
  • Add a torrent that has been added already, can't download the zip
  • Click the add button twice, same as above, can't download the zip

The known issues will be fixed soontm, just looking for additional feedback on style, potential pricing, speed of download, etc. while I work.

Fast, slick, and just in time for Broadchurch S02E01...   Cool

OMG U R MUH HEEEEEEROOOO!!!   Shocked

Can u make plz accept Monero, for privacy?

I found why the downloads were stalling on you, looks like you tried to download 4 different versions of broadchurch but they all hung... your latest should have just resumed.

The server has a 1TB drive but the folder where Transmission was saving the torrents was limited to 20GB so it filled up quickly and paused all the torrents.

Do you have a link to the Monero thread? However to start things of I was probably going to only accept bitcoin, unless of course there is enough demand for others.

Crypto is the separation of Power and State.

Awesome.

some feedback:

  • I was getting download speeds > 10MB/s when downloading back to me, but the download never finished (it was stopping at random points)
  • magnet urls seems to work in the way that the name gets displayed but they don't seem to download
  • when trying to add some other file after refresh I kept getting "failed to add torrent", maybe you were changing something

I just joined http://yourseedbox.com/ which has a cheap plan for 1.89 Euros / month.  Seems a bit slow, but ok.  Cheaper than the 8 Euros that I paid at Ultraseedbox (which was faster).  Both accept bitcoin.  Require email address.

use put.io instead. accepting bitcoin as well, and easy as pie to use!

works for me, thanks.

not nearly as nice a gui as bitfetch and billing is time-based instead of volume based. Also requires registering with email (or does it?).

  • find out that my type of control panel (torrentflux) doesn't support magnet urls at all
  • click "convert to torrentcloud" control panel so I can use magnet urls
  • read message that "high priority conversion within 24 hours cost €30", low priority is free, but takes up to a week (best effort)
Cheesy I have no idea how the premium service could still take up to 24 hours. They must set the waiting period server-side with a RNG, or else they send all the work over to a single RPi.

TorrentFlux isn't too shabby, though. The NG fork handles magnet links through Mainline or Transmission. Maybe someone can be found on the forum who'd be willing to throw it up for us.

I don't know what happened, but it used to be an excellent service. I hope it gets back, if not then some alternative is badly needed.

I wish it would get back because the owner has made the right choices. It was doing what it was supposed to and it was doing it very well. I also tried some old funding address without any luck (probably bitcoind died?). Fetching still works fine.

Not going to pay more than my Netflix subscription to pirate a couple of movies.

Oh my god, I'm in the process of trying yourseedbox.com seedserver.

What a major fucking hassle.

Sorry to vent here, but it this just points out how much a service like bitfetch is needed.

Took me about 90 minutes to go through all of this crap:

  • to buy 1.89€ shared seebox (turns out to be €2,80 in the end), I have to fill out a form, pay btc via bitpay, email support about failed bitpay payment (they reacted quickly).
Not to mention having to register an email address somewhere.
  • put up with 2 different quite crappy control panels (at least they seem to work, though)
  • find out that a torrent (with many seeds) I managed to start to download wouldn't download (hangs at "connecting peers" for 10 minutes)
  • find out (they said this before I admit) that I can only dl 2 torrents simultaneously.
  • find out that my type of control panel (torrentflux) doesn't support magnet urls at all
  • click "convert to torrentcloud" control panel so I can use magnet urls
  • read message that "high priority conversion within 24 hours cost €30", low priority is free, but takes up to a week (best effort)

what the hell?!?

I wonder how much time and money I will have spent until I successfully downloaded something.

Compare to bitfetch:

  • top up account by sending BTC to a bitcoin address
  • paste magent/torrent url

EDIT: I came down a bit from my rage. They switched me to torrentcloud very quickly (support seems to be top-notch so far). That is a way better interface and I can actually download stuff now.

I still uphold that we need a bitfetch-style service, though ;-)

I think I might try a shared seedbox from http://yourseedbox.com/page/shared_seedbox for €1,85 + VAT per month.

I read somewhere they take bitcoin (haven't made it to the checkout yet).

it's rather old, but here's a list of seedboxes accepting bitcoin

http://seedboxgui.de/guides/seedbox-providers-accept-bitcoin/

Doesn't seem to me those make sense for casual usage.

Bitfetch was ideal for me. I'd download 500MB to 4 Gigs or so once every 2 weeks on average. Doesn't make sense to buy any monthly planned stuff for that.

I'm not an expert.  Started using Ultraseedbox.  Accepts bitcoin. Requires email address.  Seems pretty good.  I accidentally left my torrents running and went over bandwidth - so we'll see how that goes.  It's cheaper than bitfetch if you are doing lots of downloading (40 gb/month or more).  Bitfetch was a better service for people who only need say 10 GB/month.

Seed boxes are the alternative.
Any good one that accepts Bitcoin?
