I'll pass & let one of the many more tech savvy ppl here explain or bitlotto himself maybe, btw bitlotto we're at 1 week from results having been announced tomorrow & 10 days from the draw (*hint, hint - winner's payments - cough, cough*)

Edit: kbf also check the 'How the hashes are done for pools' link in my post above or on the BitLotto site which explains how it all works I believe.

Okay Otoh,

I see all of what you said in the last post but I am not quite understanding how he gets to the "winning" address...
There is a block created after then end of the draw, then he uses mega millions numbers, then for the pool he uses just the FIRST transaction?
How does that make all the other cash count?

Was this the address for the Jan Pirate Pool?

http://blockchain.info/address/1pMZJi4eA144ChzXtsS8sCzrJADcXeAWR

which received 6.644 btc in total ---> 6.75 btc with top up.

& with the very first bet there from 13mLYBrRZ3fQzTCvr3araxZPRbBZxbCNG8 of 0.2 btc winning it for the pool.

Edit, just remembered/worked out all 6.75 btc from the pool use that first tx to generate hashes from, as per the How the hashes are done for pools info.

& which win 35.39/6.75 = 5.242962 per btc bet or approx 0.5243 btc per 0.1 btc bet each, or a fraction more if your 0.1056 btc top up contribution isn't counted as a partial winner too.

Edit 2, If it was easy to do then having some of the result's txt file bolded/highlighted would be nice, ie something like this maybe (note, needs a wide screen to view formatting in two columns like the original correctly here):

blockchain.info would be more convenient but then I'm having to trust a third party. Oh well.

Any ways check the account now! It should be there!

Good luck next month! Wink

Yep received, many thanks to all!

I believe that blockchain.info wallets are all crypto-ed on your computer so have a very high level of security even if something were to happen to the site provider, but I'm not up on the tech side - just enough from what I've heard from others makes me happy to trust them & it's nice & easy to keep backup copies elsewhere of the private keys for addresses on those wallets. Also I sign in with Lastpass pro with yubi key which I'd also highly recommend.

Good luck to all next month! Wink

Edit: This is the info re security when using blockchain.info wallets to make sure that thier Javascript hasn't been messed with & for adding 2FA etc:

okies np, I hardly deal with the client at all & just use blockchain.info wallet mostly so I don't need to load the blockchain or deal with annoying quirks like where the wallet creates new random addresses to send change to or where I can't easily just find the private keys to addresses that are in it.

re lucky, well I had overall bet 18 btc last month out of the 41.58 btc total so I was in with about a 43% chance of winning (slightly more as 2/3 of that was in the pools - but for lower potential shared wins mostly), but yes it did seem rather lucky even so given past wins - maybe it's the auspicious astro dates that I choose Wink Also as I treated bets for Hannah as a separate series it demonstrated well the 99% being returned to the players as I'd bet 45 btc in total for her & finally won 41.58 btc or 92.4% back (so far) though better in dollar terms.

Many thanks SG!

As yet the 7th of Dec's BitLotto hasn't paid out, I believe it would work better if the funds were guaranteed to be sent within 1 week of the draw or at the very least within a week of the winner being announced, preferably much sooner, otherwise it becomes rather random & may deter entrants to the next & future Bitlottos:

https://blockchain.info/address/1HannaheRa46n6g532kRo9GmnmD5aLUt5j

I know, sorry. I really do try to pay right away. My internet sucks and I've almost caught up again in the blockchain. It should be there in a few days I'm sure. I think I'm just going to leave to software always running so it doesn't get behind. It's very frustrating for me.

I can't believe your luck Otoh!

I've been betting for a friend's kid, Hannah,

Otoh's bets win again?

Can I just give my BitLotto wagers to you and have you place the bets for me?     Cheesy

which hopefully will be worth a decent amount by the time she goes to college/university

That's a wonderful approach to sharing and providing help.

Next draw Jan 4!!!

I've been betting for a friend's kid, Hannah, since last March (45 btc bet so far on her behalf) as well as donating any other spare coins that I can to a wallet that I made for her which hopefully will be worth a decent amount by the time she goes to college/university, it's now up to 80 btc thanks to this win (& 2,500 ltc). She lost her father in a tragic accident a couple of years ago so to all who entered this month's Bitlotto many thanks for that & this is just to let you know that you've banked some good karma with your entries.

I also bet 6 btc on behalf of my niece & 6 btc on my own account this month, so my total entries were 18 btc in all which I hope to repeat again for the early January 2013 BL .

Re: Pooling for a greater chance to win, the BL Pirate Pool effectively does this proportionally for unlimited entry amounts & entrants.

17 BTC up for grabs so far! Good luck!

There's a performance issue with the site right now.  The page starts to load and then stalls before eventually loading the remainder.

Also, are you sure it is wise to load external javascript?   If that were to intermittently or selectively replace the bitcoin address it could cause misdirected wagers.

Ya, there seems to be a bit of competition lately. Oh well. As bitcoin grows there should be room for lots of players. I'm not going anywhere! The nice thing that no matter how small or large the jackpot it's still a good deal as the the odds just change with the pot size.

17 BTC up for grabs so far! Good luck!

Winning payment sent out. Good luck everyone on the next draw!

Looks like BitLotto is facing competition from other online gambling services that use Bitcoin and interest in this is waning.

This is too bad, because seeing the absolute madness that PowerBall has right now, a Bitcoin lottery service with 99% payout and being provably fair should be something exploding by now.

One idea I had was that a party could use BitLotto to enable a raffle for a specific prize.  i.e., if this party (the raffle operator) wins a BitLotto, then that party uses the winnings to buy the prize that is then granted to the holder of the winning ticket.   For example, the raffle operator lists a prize of an all-inclusive trip (including airfare) for two to some winter resort -- if the BitLotto reaches some threshold (e.g., $2K USD worth of BTC at the time when the lotto draw occurs).  If BitLotto doesn't reach that threshold, then the operator just pays out cash instead I suppose.

This can be done today without BitLotto's knowledge or participation however the raffle players would be paying funds to the operator (who then buys the tickets from BitLotto) and would have to trust this raffle operator -- there is no transparency as far as how many tickets are sold, and there is the risk that the raffle operator fails to deliver the prize and winnings.

To enable this type of proxy winner within BitLotto, what is perhaps useful then is a way that individual players can place wagers to this special pool address but if that pool is the winner, the payout goes to the operator who set it up.  This is nearly identical to how a BitLotto affiliate works, except for how the full payout of winnings goes to the party that set it up, not just the commission.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this or have other suggestions for BitLotto?
