Is it possible to counter-ping and drive the units that are part of the DDoS off-line?

@DD4BC

You know your fucking up things for the small home miners we are the ones that are getting Fucked.

So are you really going to keep this up until they pay?  Huh

If so this pool is fucked.

As a Network Security Engineer/Architect.  I am really surprised companies do not design their infrastructure to handle this or mitigate it.

This is not Astrophysics.

Would have been cheaper to pay them off.  Huh

Give them the 10 BTC bounty so we can all go back to making money.  Undecided

Are you really that ignorant to think that's how it works?  They're spending money to ddos attack, if you start paying them why would they stop?  Remind me to never hire you to be my hostage negotiator.
I am wandering what makes you think that they are spending money?
I do agree that paying ransom is not the solution but ....spending money....it sounds like you have internal info or what?

Computers cost money, electricity costs money, internet access costs money, people's time costs money.  All of those things are required for ddos attacks, how did you think it was done?

The ransom has to be more than 10 BTC and if they pay the ransom, they are not even sure the attackers will stop.
Where is Chuck Norris when you need him? He would have just put the pings through the headphones and hunted them down.

Antpool are spread around the world in different continents already before the DDOS started.

Engineers are working on the issues continuously.  This is a sad thing for us to say, but please set a backup pool outside Antpool while we are under attack.

Any chance of an update bitmain? Couple of weeks of bad profit here. Couldn't take much for a five minute update!

Thanks for advice.   It is sad to see a great pool being ruined by some DDOS attackers.

I hope you guys can find a way to defeat these attacks.

Just a idea have you thought about making more pool servers?  If you make lets say 10 pools they would have to amp up DDOS attack to get all of them.  You could even open in different regions such as US, UK, ETC.

Thanks for reply.

If for example you set up a server for pool such as us.solo.antpool.com:3333 , uk.solo.antpool.com:3333 , etc.   Would that not make it harder to DDOS than how currently they all have to go to solo.antpool.com:3333 and I'm guessing sent to local pools from there?

For once I am in 100% agreement with the Antpool folks, they made the right decision in not paying the extortionists.

It is sad but not paying is the right decision.  Chances are they lost far more then the 10 BTC with paying employees to work on problem, and money lost from pool being down.

But if you pay once.  Chances are they will come back again... and again.  If anything paying will put a even bigger target on a pool.

I am having trouble connecting to pool with my S5 I can log into the site and it appears to be running but showing dead. Options 2 and 3 are alive.

Confirm that this correct for pool mining:

stratum+tcp://stratum.antpool.com:3333

Thanks

Don't scratch a hole in your nugget while the ddos attack continue, just shift the miner over to BTCGuild or Bitminter until Antpool is in the clear.

I dug deep and pulled out a big booger.

Pool is working now.

They're not in the clear yet so you should probably put one of the others on failover.

Even if you set a alternate pool there are still slow periods where we are not getting full credit for our hashing time.

So setting an alternate pool only help when they are off line it doesn't help when their server are still up and being overloaded.

I just started mining a few weeks ago and the amount of downtime is disconcerting, but maybe they're just experiencing a bad spell?  I may ride it out to see but will definitely set up a PPS pool as a backup.

Down again. Disappointed. Time to start looking elsewhere.

Yep... can't connect either. Was testing AntPool to see what their payouts are for a possible HashNest purchase. Why are they not IP banning connections to the server when the IP is pinging the server more than 4 times every 2 seconds? That's basic DDoS protection... Within 2 hours you should be negate about 60% of an attack.

Yeez, have antpool just given up? I find it hard to believe that there is no solution to this problem.

BTW 0.0Hs for several hours now.

Same here my miners all switched pools.  I can see 2 big losses of miners in 24 hours.

Is there any updates as far when it should be fixed?

When I spoke to them last on the phone earlier today they said they are having issues with CLOUDFARE working with the miners. I see its not fixed yet come on already BITMAIN.

In cgminer, there is a specific path and process of work from the pool to cgminer, to the device, back to cgminer and back to the pool again.
Bitmain messes with that process.
My first release I did of their S1 driver, I spent time fixing that process.
They ignored the changes.

So the simplest answer is to point out that what the Bitmain antminers show with their versions may not always be correct .......... on all their miners.

Thanks for the answer! Bitmain really ignored it? They have really been letting me down lately with all their sites being down due to DDoS, and now this, but that's life! My main reason for asking about it in the first place is because I was debating on trying solo mining, now I know it was a BUG (like an ANT  Wink ) and solo mining would pretty much be pointless for me.

~Mike

Bitmain messes up a lot of things. Every version of S3 firmware introduces some new problem. They are very sloppy in writing firmware and seem to not test it very well either.

I will have to agree, there is no consistency. It took me some time to find a stable firmware. Updating firmwares are always risky with any device, the less you do it, the better. I had to do this more than I would have liked.

Perhaps their own firmware is ironically what is preventing their customer's Antminers from connecting to Antpool through Cloudflare... Probably not though, since their miners for Hashnest are connected just fine

I am guessing hashnest doesn't connect to the pools through a public server.

Aha I thought you were talking about some extra costs. Any way running a pool costs money for sure.
Thank you for the clarification.
