It'd be hilarious to see the hashrate drop by 75% after Monero forks because most companies have been mining there for months.  Grin

I hope so. My rigs been struggling for the last month

Maybe bitmain preordered chips to make a bunch of these.  So they need to presell a ton now.

They probably meant ETN (Electronium) which is the second-highest network hashrate CN coin - and like Monero they have announced they will be changing their algorithm and hard forking soon to implement the change.

These devices are no coffin nail in CPU mining, they're going to be expensive paperweights very soon now.

ETN has announced a fork? Do u have the source of this news?

It was mentioned in a Q&A video linked from their facebook page, but details were pretty ambiguous.
They HAVE to change the algorithm though for their "mobile mining" model to survive at all.

In 2 weeks all the ASIC miners for cryptonight they will be doorstops the Monero fork will give a good lesson to ASIC companies.
Next week you will see discounts
And 3-4 days before the fork they will give them away for free $0 !

Not even in the Wall Street they don't make suck a trap !

actually the asic companies gave monero a lesson by raising monero nethashrate from ~250mhs to 1000mhs the past months.
hopefully the fork will really help long term

It will, by reducing the hashing power you reduce the money that the miners are sucking.
Monero will be more price stable and it will attract coin investors .... too much nethashrate is killing the coins ...

It does not work like that.  The number of new coins per day/hour is fixed, but if you reduce the hashing power the miners rewards is the same, but in this case because XMR is kicking out the ASIC now the reward is going to be more spread, not a few miners getting most of the reward and dumping most of the coins, and yes, the price will be more stable.

I just built some rigs and this crap gets announced Cheesy arrgghh...rumors were indeed true. Hope eth forks.

ETH is not a cn coin.

It's on Bitmain Site... barely over 24 hours later LOL

$3000 for Batch 3
https://shop.bitmain.com/productDetail.htm?pid=000201803162234588810T73G76V05F6

$1900 for Batch 4
https://shop.bitmain.com/productDetail.htm?pid=000201803162235598599JzqU03h0693

Still wayyy too rich for what they will actually generate

$0 for Batch 8?  Grin

I don't want to believe that. I mean who is retarded enough to pay $12k? and then $9k, and then 3k and 2k?

Bitmain got rekt big time this time. Batch1 is already DOA/$0
------------------------
BTC devs should also keep an eye on this event. (Monero forks, ASICs goes to hell, Bitmain gets rekt) Because that's exactly what's going to happen if BTC also changes PoW. If what they are trying to do with HalongMining doesn't work...

If Bitmain did not offer refund, they risked legal action from buyers on every continent.
Very doubtful as I don't think the Chinese legal system would be very favorable to lawsuits from(as an example) US based attorneys and AFAIK they don't have a presence in the US to be able to sue them in the US court system. Worst they would get is bad publicity from all the buyers they shafted and bad PR IMHO. Only ones who would benefit are the attorneys who get payed no matter what lol.

At least they are responding responsibly with the issue of reimbursements, but without a doubt it seems very strange that they have reduced the price 4 times without further explanation ...

What is there to explain? They sold probably like 5 units and realized there is no demand at that price.

Their cost per unit is likely less than $500 so they have a large margin to play with.
