If you're in warranty, contacting BITMAIN would be the logical first step. I think they've got some troubleshooting steps outlined in the manual. What problems you having?

Hey all,

think twice next time buying crap with 3 month "warranty"

To be fair problems did not show for most people until two months in.

So if you purchased from June 1 to Aug 1 you did not know this gear would break easier then the older s-1 s-3 s- 5 s-7 broke.

If you buy after Aug 1 you kind of asked for it.

I had 5 machines running fine from June to August and I purchased a sixth on on August 9th since then a lot of problems.

Phil, - I have dropped it back but I hate doing it. Warranty is not something I am not currently prepared to deal with mentally - even if it was covered. It has always been the worst company in warranty situations. I have been compensated in other ways well after, and I mention it because of full transparency and all of that.

I do not think these chips are going to be really durable.
So prepare for them to,die not so slowly.
This is all based on reports here and on my s-9s
No earlier gear has had this type of symptom.
My dead boards looked fine as did a lot of other s-9 board photos

Yep,looks like they saw the chumps coming & buying,so Bitmain cheaped up the design & parts list to squeeze you home miners even more & then hose who ever they can on the warranty & voilia, MO MONEY!!!!!!

I think a lot of units are going to fail at a higher rate then any other bitmaintech product.

Symptoms seem to be happening with many miners in many places.

I suggest to down clock a bit always keep temps at 65-95 as best you can.

my prediction for next batches . . .

price is gonna go UP ! not expecting them to be cheaper .

you could be right always a down clock on the august batch and it died in under a day.

I will be holding back for now on the s-9 and the r4.

I may get an avalon 7 or 2.

Meanwhile gpu mining seems to be saving me.

I may expand the gpus as the s-9's fail

I had 2 ship on June 12th they will be off warranty on Sept 12th > one dead board after 70 days
I had 2 ship on June 21st they will be off warranty on Sept 21st
I had 1 ship on June 27th it will be off warranty on Sept 27th
I had 1 ship on Aug 17th it will be off warranty on Nov 17th >>>> this had a dead board in under 10 hours

This gear could be very painful if it continues to fail for lots of us.

So I get the dreaded x.
In the past this has lead to a failed hash board.
This is a B1 unit. The default freq is 650. It is possible this started a few weeks or so back. I know it wasn't there when I installed or shortly after.
I have changed the freq all the way down to 500 in increments of 50 with the same results.
The odd thing is something I think I learned from the sidehack thread regarding the way Bitmain has the voltage sent after it boots and does a couple of other things.
I get the x at exactly one minute displayed on the status screen timer.
Or maybe it is a cold solder joint, bad ASIC, or loose connection. That is why I am asking for input from the best minds in the game regarding the options.
I guess the ASIC # does not mean the current number of running ASICs?

I have also ran it in slightly cooler and much cooler temperatures.

Any opinions are appreciated.

Have you tried plugging the ribbon cable into a different socket on the controller?

Currently, price is 4083 RMB, which is $610.82
OR coinbase price is $609.9 OR bitfinex $611.86

NOWHERE it is 1442/2.431=$593

Is it so difficult to link it to the "real time" price?

Miners were in Guangzhou, China not London. I'll be in China in 2 days so I'd pick them in person.

Miners were used and without warranty hence the discount.

If I have some time to spare while there I'll try to understand if 2 btc per used S9 is a common price or not.

The warranty can't be worth 20-30%. The S9 failure rate is high but not nearly THAT high.

In other words, yeah the price is good, of the "too good to be true" variety. But there is probably a catch of some sort.
