Just started using bfg today for my first asic machine (red fury usbs - aww cute)
in the supplied #miner.bat file theres a cmd to insert your BTC address... ive only used cuda miner before for scrypt mining, i also tried gui and cgmier and never saw a line to add the BTC address in the bat file - is this essential? its freaking me out...
:p
thanks!

@Bordomboy

Are you using a powered hub?

do you have a ttyACM0 listed in your in /dev?

What command line are you starting bfgminer with?

At first I tried a hub, but couldn't find its power cord, so I plugged them  directly into a USB expansion card installed on the machine.

Yes, I found ttyAMC0 and ttyAMC1 in my /dev.

I've been starting bfgminer with bfgminer -o stratum+tcp://us3.eclipsemc.com:3333 -u xxxxx -p xxxx -S bitfury:/dev/ttyACM0

You need to update your version of bfgminer

I added theturtle1983 ppa as listed on the first page and I have the one maintained by unit3 added already, but it updated from what I was running to v. 3.3.0... I can't seem to get it to upgrade further. Perhaps 3.3.0 is called for with mint 13maya with xfce. (side note...since I ran all the updates this afternoon when I started this, the windows that open are missing the 'minimize/maximize/close' icons and I no longer have any control over their size...I also a missing 3 of the 4 desktops the settings say I have. weird) But as long as I'm getting some mining done, I think I'm going to have to leave it for the night and come back to it tomorrow.
You may need to change the target distribution name, see previous post at https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.3467818

"In "software and updates", "other software"  you have to change "saucy" to "raring" in the ppa."  - your distribution may be different

saucy doesnt need any change. Ive uploaded the build for saucy.

Well... my 10k resistors came in today, switched out the 22k resistor for a 10k on one of my good units.

BFGMiner 3.6.0 - 2.82 GH/s - 0 HW Errors
CGMiner 3.8.0 - 2.51 GH/s

I only let it sit for about 10 minutes on each mining software, so going to let it run for awhile in BFGMiner now.

Before the installation of the resistor this unit was consistently at 2.2GH/s

EDIT:

Temperature at heat-sink: 27.8 C / 82 F
Temperature at chip: 37.7 C / 100 F

tk1337,

after you replaced the 22K with a 10K, what was the resistance across R15 ?

So, awkwardly enough I can't get a reading off of R15, I can off other resistors, but not R15. Had to borrow a meter as my dog decided a couple days ago that mine would make a nice chew toy Cry I'm blaming the meter (lol) going to grab a different one tomorrow.

The instructions on page 1 clearly state to run bfgminer as root.  I.E.

sudo bfgminer .... rest of command line

Alternatives include adding your user to the "dialout" group or installing the udev script from cgminer.  Both of which are probably asking too much.  Try running with "sudo" to run as super user to confirm that it is a permissions issue.

ahhh.... okay, I ran it simply with sudo bfgminer to see what would happen and they are there now:

Now that they are mining...I'll go back and look over some of the tweeking posts in this thread I've been skipping.  Thanks for your help.

so what are the permissions for ttyACM0 in /dev

should be 660, owned by root:dialout, with the sticky t set.

(at least on wheezy)

 Huh

sorry...I'm still learning linux, and this machine is the only one with maya xfce because of its lack of other resources so I hardly ever mess around with it except for bfgminer.

@Bordomboy

I use -S bigpic:/dev/ttyACM0 - etc.

Tried it... same result: bfgminer fires up and the jalapeno is hashing away...no more devices found.

Here is what bfgminer looks like when I first fire it up using the above:
