By how it looks Spence is the favorite, it's going to be assumed he'll beat Ugas. It's interesting though that Porter had it in mind that Ugas will find a way. From the link of harizen, someone in the comment actaully said that Ugas has an exceptional amateur career where he beat up Terrence Crawford and Danny Garcia which I also couldn't find the record anywhere. The one that I found was Crawford was beaten by Ugas in the Semifinal which is here https://boxrec.com/media/index.php/Terence_Crawford

There's a huge difference between fighting in amateur and fighting on the professional level, Tyson was beaten by Tyrell Biggs in their amateur days so when they faced when they are professional Tyson punished Biggs for beating him in their amateur days, it's wherein the professional where you will become a polished boxer and take your potential to the limit, so even if Ugas beat Spence and Ugas in their amateur days, it has no bearing now if they fight, so in this fight, I'll go for Spence he is a more polished boxer and a great executioner.

I read that Ugas is a feared boxer in the 147 lbs and no one wanted to fight him. So maybe this is a step up fight for Spence, and after his surgery it looks like he is back to have another challenge and their belts are on the line.

I do hope that the winner of this will fight Crawford for the unification. Hopefully it will be Spence as the hype has been building up for a Spence vs Crawford fight.

I think many people somehow underestimated Ugas (me included) when he faced Pacquiao on the ring. As much as that I was rooting for Pacquiao to win, maybe it was the latter's time to call it quits as he showed rusty on his fight. But we got to witness the destructive power and metal chin that Ugas had against his fight with Pacquiao.

Though Spence Jr. may be undefeated, I also do think that the fight will not be easy against them. If I were to bet, I would somehow bet my money on Ugas due to the talent he showcased against his fight with Pacquiao.

Maybe that's the correct word "underestimate". Not just Manny then, maybe all other boxers that he fought, and then suddenly they lost against him.

@harizen posted a good link, as they have one common opponent in Shawn Porter. Maybe Shawn really knows that he lost to Ugas in their fight because it was really hard to score that fight. That's why he thinks that Ugas has a good chance, maybe slim but still he may find a way to beat Spence.

Thinking also the same if the odds are great. Since Ugas is the sure underdog, I'm expecting at least an odds between @3-4 regardless of what he has shown during the fight with Manny Pacquiao. Ugas surely learn some lessons after a fight with a high-class boxer after defeating it. Ugas will treat Spence as another achievement if he passed on it that's why he will be seen to be expected more aggressive here compare to the latter.

There are no betting odds out for this game right but I do also think that if betting odds were out it would be a close gap between the two fighters, however, I am not thinking that Yordenis Ugas will be the underdog on this fight since he has recently won on their fight against Manny Pacquiao. But the undefeated record of Errol Spence is quite attractive to be treated as underdog too. Did these speculated fights have already a scheduled date?

I'm sure the majority of us here thinks that Yordenis Ugas don't have a chance to win but Shawn Porter itself debunked that thinking as he already faced Ugas and he knows better than us here. Even he picks Spence Jr. to win the fight, he is sure that Ugas can hit an unexpected upset.

Ugas is now also in his post-prime and since the big break just comes late, he will do everything to have a good milestone a few years before entering the veteran age for boxers.

Shawn Porter says Errol Spence Jr. has more power than Yordenis Ugas, but he could lose

Shawn Porter shared his thought regarding the expected bout between Errol Spence Jr. and Yordenis Ugas next year 1Q. As he experienced fighting both these boxers, he was able to measure the weight on who's gonna likely win. No doubt, Spence Jr. was considered that have a power advantage but not closing a book right away that Ugas might have a chance to snatch a win.

And he quote "I’m actually convinced he may find a way to beat Errol Spence Jr,”. Let's see about that.

Both has connections to Pacquiao. I think this is a good match up with a twist knowing what has happened between them and Pacquiao.
Here we go again, we are still underestimating Ugas despite what he displayed during his fight with Manny Pacquioa. I did check the betting odds to confirm whether Ugas is the underdog but it looks like there's no odds available yet or any article that tells about a possible betting odds of this fight, so I'm guessing maybe it's too early to talk about this fight? lastly, is it confirm already?
Well, that's typical for the fans to underestimate him. Maybe there's something personal that they would apply on it and don't realize that Ugas is also a tough and strong boxer.

I think we are not underestimating Ugas, but he is facing a young fighter and is a champion in his own right. And it will be obvious why would he be the underdog here. Yes, he is the underdog as well in the Pacquiao fight, but overnight Manny become old and enough for Ugas to have a upset win. Not yet confirm, but reports are flying around that they are just finalizing it.

Thanks for this thread @harizen.

Indeed, as others have said, this is going to be a very good fight as this involved the belt holder in the welterweight division. And I wanted to see how Spence will responds to a fighter like Ugas who uses also his length and I would say one of the under rated counter puncher. But then again, Spence will had the edge because he has in many battles against good fighters, while Ugas doesn't have a good name in his resume, except the ageing Manny Pacquiao and then he lost to Shawn Porter who Spence beat.

@harizen, if you can put a poll for us to vote, that would make this thread more interesting. I know that most of the posts here favors Spence, but I'm sure there are bettors out there who just want to vote and not share their opinion regarding the fight. No pressure, it's just a recommendation.

So by next year, we can expect that Errol Spence Jr is back healthy again after the operation?

This is great news, I'm sure we won't have this discussion if Spence is not capable of fighting again.
Ugas is in big trouble here, he is fighting a stronger and a younger champion, so I like to see how he will respond after his success against Manny.
It should be, but the injury is serious... I hope if he's back healthy again, he can perform very well.

Ugas was have a height advantages against Pacquiao before, but Spence is more high than Ugas even it's little difference only. Spence's has a good record and still undefeated, of course he will be favorited here. I'll wait the odds when the bookies add this match (if it's happen) Ugas has a good defense, he wouldn't let Spence knocking out him.
Some might have doubt first because he returns after surgery, I don't know I feel like Spence is way better before his surgery but I still believe he is better than Ugas. When I say Ugas is in trouble here, I'm just exaggerating things, sorry about that, but I gotta respect Ugas as he send Manny into retirement.

Winding down.
Agreed. In the welterweight division, clearly there are only 2 kings. They are Errol Spence and Terence Crawford. Anyone presently under them will lose. Spence might knockout Ugas within 10 rounds. Also, if everyone is looking a challenger who has a chance to win versus these 2 kings, I reckon it will be Jaron “Boots” Ennis. Everyone remember that name.

Terence Crawford will be the last man to defeat to complete the unified belts. I'm sure that the winner between Spence Jr. and Ugas will face Crawford next. If I'm not mistaken, Crawford will have the same match close to the expected date of the Spence Jr. vs Ugas fight.

If the expected timeline will be followed, we might see a big match again in August between Terence Crawford vs the winner between Spence Jr. and Ugas,

Spence Jr. is a good choice for me to face Crawford, not Ugas.

I see, of course, we like to see Crawford vs Spence Jr. because these two boxers just throwing some words but they didn't fight each other. If Spence Jr. won the fight, hopefully, they (Crawford and Spence Jr.) will give us a chance to see a good boxing match to unify the belt, if I am not mistaken, the winner will become the undisputed champion?

Lucky Ugas as a replacement for Spence Jr last August, he now suddenly becomes a top fighter because he defeated the not-focus Manny Pacquiao. Because of that he finally gets the chance to have a big main event against one of the best in the welterweight, Spence Jr.

This is a big break in his career now that he is almost close to retirement. He should do his best in this fight and train harder and smarter. Ugas is nowhere in the competition already until that win against Manny so he should take this big match against Spence Jr. as a blessing that comes to him.

IMO, Ugas doesn't make a feared boxer just because he defeated the boxing champion Manny Pacquiao before the man hangs his gloves. Ugas have just defeated Pacquiao by just a small gap in a unanimous decision. His KO rate is that good compared to Spence Jr.
Same here mate, I'm also rooting for Spence to win, aside from that Spence got the height and reach advantage and also Spence's moves will be enough to take Ugas down. Just my opinion.

You are right, Ugas is very slow for Errol Spence. The only reason he is in this fight is because he has the belt and he defeated an old Pacman. No offense to Ugas fans here but he is not in the level of Errol Spence and Terrence Crawford but he should be happy that everything falls in his favor, first being the replacement fighter to fight Manny then defeat Manny where after that the money flows. I reckon that this fight would not last the distance as Ugas has no lateral movement.

No date yet according to the articles but 3Belts are at stake.  This wouldn't be easy for Ugas to win against the undefeated Spence for he will give a run for thier money. Ugas only have a slight chance of winning against Spence. In some articles, it's not possible for Spence or Ugas vs Pacquiao anymore because Pacquiao is inactive and so whoever wins the match will fight against Crawford.

They've been speculating of this fight to happen in months, perhaps the date will be next month to feb.

I am happy that we are seeing so many unification fights happen all at once, in the past  many champions avoided each other as it was easier for them to just fight weak challengers and try to extract as much money from their belts as they possibly could, but now boxers are going for all the glory and now they are willing to fight other champions, which is exactly what we as fans wanted as it is easy to speculate who is the best among the current champions in a division, but what better way to determine this with those champions going at each other above the ring.

It's not the first time that a fight is staking 3belts to be unified. I tried googling and found out about Kostya Tszyu vs Zab Judah. Surprisingly, the underdog Kostya won the fight. The result was a real upset which changes the rules in boxing as well when it comes to a boxer who stands up after getting whacked and falls again to the mat. Ugas winning the fight still is possible but the possibility is too low and this is just by looking at his low KO number.
