Yeah, that time we never knew how that fight will turn out, but maybe majority never heard of Bivol, how good and fast he is as LHW and Canelo is really riding on a winning streak and everyone he faces at 168 lbs was destroyed by him. And everyone see him as invincible even if he is going up in weight. His camp are even talking of going as high as CW, and at LHW, he had won a belt already so we think that he will just steamroll the champion in Bivol. And another important thing is that he or someone in his camp may have the judges under their pocket, to just make sure that he is going to win. But they were all wrong and Bivol won although it's a bit controversy as I have said because the judges was trying to make the score closer or at least hoping to get a draw.

Since most rounds are obviously won by Bivol, it would be hard for these judges to somehow intentionally manipulate the scorecards in favor of Canelo, if there's really an attempt to do it. There's even an analysis prior to that fight, that if Bivol wants to win, he should go with either Knockout or clearly win every round as there are saying that Bivol was not against Canelo but on everything.


Actually, Bivol is not that fast for Canelo. It's just that he's really good at finding an open spot to land a perfect blow. Aside from that, Bivol successfully made Canelo very disappointed and frustrated and that led Canelo not to be focused on the fight. Bivol destroyed his rhythm. If only Canelo stays his cool and calm state of mind, might be the close fight we expect the entire match.

Anyways, we might see a different Canelo now if ever a rematch with Bivol will happen. On the other hand, though, a different Bivol can be expected too.

Let's tune in first on their respective upcoming matches; Canelo vs. Ryder in May ; Bivol vs. ? in June.

And that's where Canelo's career became a huge embarrassment in-front of the Russian boxer, Dmitry Bivol. The latter showed us who truly owns the division and what he is made of, moreover, he pulled an upset while proving that the peoples favorite as well as the bookies favorite is not a basis that he is an easy boxer in-front of Canelo. What Bivol did is almost unbelievable as it's the first time that Canelo looked like a human punching bag without almost no choice aside from receiving all those punches that Bivol is giving.

Yup! the anticipate outcome didn't happen as upset for most bettors during the fight between Bivol and Alvarez, I can include myself with those who support Canelo, as I base my decision with how Canelo fought and how he dominated his opponents, but in Bivol's time, the young champ made the right preparation with all those counters he change the tempo of the fight and bring everything on his favor.

He didn't give Canelo any opportunities to change the direction as he just continue what he knows is best to prevent Canelo to box him out and pull the KO solid combinations.

Well, nobody expected the outcome of that match. Like most of us, many are expecting Canelo to win on that match, but it seems like we underestimated Bivol so much... or we just overestimated Canelo even though he went up one division after unifying the middleweight division.

On that match, Bivol made Canelo like a punching bag indeed. He's very fast for Canelo, his reach are to long for him and he's a good counter puncher as well. I expect that match to be at least not a one-sided match, but... it is what it is. Those who risked, and put their bet on Bivol on that match are the ones who are the winners aside from the 2 boxers of course.

I cannot really blame them if they favored Canelo Alvarez that time and that includes me. I mean, why not? Canelo has surely proved numerous fights already that he can dominate his opponent even if that boxer is much more taller than him, he can always make a way considering how vast Canelo's IQ inside the ring and that's why people are betting on his side without a single doubt as that was his 2nd time fighting at 175. But unfortunately, the defending champion proved us all wrong and the he is not that kind of boxer who we should underestimate.

He seems to be tired yeah, I do agree, there were times that I think Jojo Diaz could have scored a knock down but Gesta just stay upright. So I don't think that this version will give problems to Ryan Garcia though.

In any case, Ryan make the right decision to skip this tune up and go straight directly with Tank Davis.

He needs his best version against Tank and maybe he thinks that fighting Gesta will not add anything for him in the table.

It's just the numbers though, Gesta is the more busier fighter in this fight, the volume could be enough for the judges to score the fight for him. Diaz might have the best punch, but it was Gesta's workrate that secure the victory for him.

I don't think though that Ryan will make the same mistake, his fight with Davis is high profile, so everything must be perfect for him.

Trainings and food intake and of course the pre and during the fight weigh-in.

Yeah, it may have been the big finish of Gesta that improved his winning chance. The jabs did help to score more and the judges may have seen something that is worth giving him the victory. Diaz may have defended some of it well but the flurry of jabs does look like Gesta landed more than blocked or avoided.
As for Diaz's career, this should not be the end of it but he needs to clear his name first and fix those legal issues that were thrown at him.

The main event was canceled due to Ramirez missing weight so Gesta versus Diaz was moved to the main event. Then, Diaz was also at 139 lbs. but thankfully it still happened.

I hope Ryan Garcia will make weight and then the other weigh in before the match starts that was written in their clause.

The odds were really weird to me during that time. I only noticed weird odds in boxing every once in a while. Maybe because Canelo is the biggest name in boxing and he just became the undisputed champion at 168 prior to that. The money that flocked into Canelo made the odds even worse and is becoming too high for the caliber of Bivol.  But considering his size and skills compared to Canelo, I had no doubt that he can win. I had like a free bet and I was contented with Bivol. The only thing that stopped me from betting more is that I knew the judges will steal as many rounds as possible in favor of the biggest superstar in the sport. Bivol stopped scoring KOs since he became the real WBA champion and even during an interview at his training camp, he said that he honestly prefers to box and fight smart. And considering how tough the chin of Canelo is, it is hard to bet on Bivol to win a KO too.

In the actual fight, Bivol took Canelo to school. I cannot even remember if Canelo won 2 to 3 rounds on my card. But the 3 corrupt judges have it 7 to 5. Each of the judges probably thought to let the other 2 do the tricks for Canelo but they all ended up thinking the same. 1 more round to steal and the fight would've been a draw just like what happened when GGG was clearly robbed of a victory against Canelo. Even Mayweather who clearly outscored the young Canelo at that time only managed to settle a majority decision which shocked a lot of hardcore fans.

Not just that, Bivol just turned Canelo into a punching bag that no one might expect knowing Canelo is at the peak of his career during that time.

According to some stats, 97% of bets on that match are all in favor of Canelo.

Just imagine how underdog Bivol is prior to that fight. -440 was given to him which is equivalent to 18% winning the fight.

I watched the highlight of the fight, and it seems Gesta is a bit tired on the 4th round, aside from that, I felt that Gesta movement is a bit stiff even though he is moving from side to side pretty well.  The jobs helps Gesta in securing the fight, though it would be devastating for him if he was caught when he leans his head forward without any defense.  That should be one of the flaw Gesta need to fix on his next fight.  All in all, I think the fight is pretty close every round it is that Gesta jobs more than his opponent securing each round.

If 2 other judges see the fight very similar and then 1 judge saw otherwise and with that kind of lopside score, then something is wrong with the judge. I mean clearly, Gesta won the fight, so maybe he is really biased towards Diaz here.


I agree though, Ryan said he doesn't want to get injured or something that's why he opted not to go for a tune up fight against Gesta. But we really don't know, maybe he could be upset by Gesta or be put in a position wherein he might question himself again if a boxer like Mercesito will give him problems. We just have an afterthought of what could have been, hehehe.

JoJo said that this will be his last fight with promoter Oscar Dela Hoya, it was one hell of a contract with GBP, 10 years according to Jojo. He might continue to fight but maybe with other promotions if he will continue with this career. But it's going to be very rough road for him right now, 130-135 lbs is pretty much stack up with good and upcoming boxers.

It's either Pam Hayashida was not that impressed by Gesta's performance, or he's just biased on the fight. I mean, I know it's unfair because Gesta worked hard for it and thrived for it, therefore, he certainly deserved to win the fight by a way of unanimous decision but this one specific judge decided not to go with the flow and made the fight's outcome into a split-decision.

Anyway, I believe this is the very reason why Ryan Garcia cancelled his plan for having a tune-up fight because fighting Gesta is not a tune-up fight for him anymore as it will be a hard-fought fight on his side with a big risk involved especially after the fact that Garcia is already eyeing for Tank Davis. And if ever Garcia will come out alive from his supposed fight with Gesta, I bet he will be suffering a heavy damage too and will not leave the ring unscathed.

Canelo Alvarez was somehow clever for choosing Dmitry Bivol and not the 3-belt champion, Artur Beterbiev. As surely Canelo and everyone inside their camp might not believe that Canelo is the one who will put a stop for Beterbiev's KO streak, furthermore, it's totally risky for Canelo at that time even if he managed to get luck on his first attempt in LHW where he defeated Kovalev. Either way, Canelo still lost on his campaign to defeat Bivol and put another negative mark on his career.

Actually, it's easier said that done as even if both promoters wanted to materialize the fight. The governing bodies doesn't want it because the sanctions are not yet lifted towards Russian athletes and fighters, including Bivol. That is the reason why we now have Beterbiev vs Smith, although that's not what people wanted.

We can't tell or conclude if what will happen because the fight didn't materialize but the chance might be possible as Gesta will be more aggressive knowing that Ryan can be his key to bring millions to his career, fighting and winning against the heavy favorite can change his fate in this sport.

Maybe one day Garcia and Gesta will meet, but that will only happen if Garcia loses against Tank.
