Even if Tank Davis won't have a tune-up fight, I reckon that he still will be the favorite from the sports bookies lists.

I might have an idea why Ryan Garcia and his camp didn't push through their own tune-up fight, this is just a wild guess and I might be wrong about this but I'm thinking that they are refraining from doing the fight before Ryan fight Davis so that he won't be that predictable especially after the fact that Mercito Gesta moves like Davis. So, somehow, it's like giving Tank's camp some idea how they will be dealing with Tank. Although, as much as it will be an advantage, it's also an advantage because it's a good chance for Ryan Garcia to practice with Gesta because he's like Tank already.

This might be the case and it makes sense.  Ryan Garcia is too confident that he can knock out Davis in two rounds so probably he has been preparing for some surprises.  The fight with Gesta might spoil it and get revealed so he(Garcia) opts not to fight this Jan. even though it was announced as a signed contract.  I wonder what is the reaction of Gesta about this backing out of Ryan Garcia.  I haven't read any article or heard about the reaction of Gesta.  The last thing I read is that Gesta is fully preparing for his fight against Ryan Garcia which is somehow impossible now.
He's like Romero before he fought Tank he is very confident that he can knock out Tank until he gets punched in the face, Ryan may have all the plans in the world to beat Tank but it will be thrown out the window once he tasted Tank's punches, he is to brazen he is not fighting a weak fighter this is the guy that keeps knocking out champions, I don't know why he is too confident of knocking out Tank in 2 rounds the guy has a good defense and is a good counter puncher.
I like the kind of mentality of Garcia, he is convincing himself that he can beat Tank Davis, but it's also necessary that he will not take him for granted, hard training is very important and hopefully, he will do good during the fight. I don't know who will win here because it's very obvious that it's a 50/50 fight although bookies listed Davis as a slight favorite.

Maybe Davis wouldn't do the same thing because originally, Davis already planned this tune-up fight even before Ryan Garcia decided that he will also have his own fight too. But maybe, we never know because it's much better for them to just prepare with each other without inserting another fight before their actual fight as their focus will be divided and the preparation will be cut into half as well because rest is needed after the fight, depends how much damage does a boxer received from it.

The contract has been signed already so the fight should go as scheduled I don't know how Ryan can back out just like that, this is the second time he backs up, the first one is the mental issue now he just wants Tank, Gesta should be compensated on this or I guess he already is as there are no words on Gesta's camp, and Gesta is a credible opponent, Garcia should have continued the tune-up fight, it will prepare him for the biggest fight of his career against Tank.

Just to let everyone knows that Ryan will not go to on a tune up fight before a Tank Davis clash.

He will rather have to wait for Davis to win against Hector Garcia then him waiting for the next 2-3 months next year. It could be a advantage or disadvantage for Ryan Garcia, advantage as he could focus and train just for Davis in that span of time. Or disadvantage because of ring rust  because it is close to a year without him fighting.

Yes, I also read this news earlier that Ryan Garcia will go directly against Gervonta Davis few months after the latter's tune-up fight. Don't know what happened in their camp for the sudden decision as they haven't disclosed some reasons why but I'm thinking that it may be risky for the young blood because Gesta is also dangerous, Ryan Garcia's chances to win the fight against the Filipino boxer is actually good but I think their main concern is that Ryan Garcia won't be leaving the ring unscathed which will result some delay of their preparations because he needed to rest first.

He could be very confident that he will win, when we say it's just a tuneup fight, he does not consider his opponent as a serious threat. The real threat here is Davis, that's why he wants to ensure that he is well-prepared for this big fight next year. Whoever wins this fight will surely make headlines, so I guess it would be nice if there's a rematch clause so we will witness another battle between the two.

Actually the tuneup fight of Ryan Garcia is not gonna happen anymore as according to the news, he wants to focus on Davis. I just knew it today, so that would increase the chance that this big fight will really happen next year. Tank Davis vs Ryan Garcia, one of the biggest fight next year, probably the biggest if the Spence vs Crawford is not going to happen.

Then there's no risk for Garcia that the big fight might not happen. With his focus now is on Davis alone, I expect him to show the best of him in their coming fight. Davis hasn't made a statement yet if he would also do the same which is to cancel his tuneup fight, if he would do that, the better so they will be 100% focus on beating each other.

Tank should have a scheduled fight on January 7, but if I'm not mistaken, the opponent is not yet known. From January to May, he will have 4 months to prepare for the fight with Garcia, this should be enough. As for the forecast for the fight, it will be a fight between two good punchers, and although I think that every fighter has a chance, and a couple of good blows can decide everything, I will give my preference to Tank.
Tank will fight against Hector Garcia, there's a user already create a thread since last month, maybe you missed it Gervonta Davis VS Hector Luis Garcia SAT, JAN 07, 2023. Let's say it need one month to recover about everything, Tank still has 3 months to training and it's more than enough.

Both boxers ever fallen and then came back to beat their opponents, so couple of good blows might not make either of them to stop. Maybe after many punches and it make them knock down multiple times, technical stoppage is more make sense for me.

With this upcoming fight of Davis, Garcia will see how prepared Davis is for their fight.
Garcia already ditched his supposedly fight with Gesta this coming month to focus on Davis.
Is it a good decision for Garcia or not? We will see if this will help when he faces with Davis.
He has a long break now from the boxing ring, so hopefully his decision is right.
If Davis will win on his upcoming fight, I believe, Garcia will be the underdog in their fight.

IMO it was a bad decision to cancel his tune-up fight with Mercito Gesta. It could be that the proposed fight schedule with Tank isn't giving Kingry enough time to recover if ever the Gesta fight turns difficult. But Kingry could've easily moved his fight with Tank by a month or 2. Kingry will be nearly a year inactive when he faces Tank. He cannot overtrain either so the focus thing is just bs. He is just lazy and is only looking for the big money, he seems ready to cash out in boxing. His former coach Eddie Reynoso and former stablemate Canelo Alvarez were right, he is slacking and is losing his motivation and dedication to establish his own legacy. His fight with Tank Davis is not even a championship fight.
Probably mate, but his sole focus right now is Tank Davis and maybe he doesn't want to get into this kind of tune up fight, just light training before the last 8-12 of full beast mode training in preparation for Tank.

Definitely, everyone is looking for big money right now, but still they need to go about hard training first before they can get that huge paycheck.

For his own legacy, this could be the make or break for Ryan Garcia's career.

Yeah, you are right, I also think that Ryan is getting lazy, but we cannot remove the fact that he (Ryan Garcia) probably thinks it would be troublesome for him to adjust his strategy to a different boxer.  So I guess he is too focused on the strategy he will use to beat Davis and he finds fighting Gesta would ruin everything he had planned and need to restart the training for Davis fight again.

That would be better and preferable since these two are one of the most mentioned boxers in the boxing industry nowadays and they will gonna make some noise next year if they decided to fight against each other. I think if Garcia has the real power and speed to hurt even the caliber of Tank Davis, then it would be an easy fight for him but we know he is vulnerable to getting hit with solid punches, and if Davis will caught him, he will surely feel it and he would gonna surely feel the pain.
It will not be easy for him for sure, Garcia has the power and is a very dominant boxer in his division, but he is facing a real monster which has a high knockout percentage. Maybe this will be the first time to see a good fight between two champions, but as a fan, I would be expecting a KO and a rematch after this fight.

Tank Davis 25Ko out of 27 fights.
Ryan Garcia 19KO out of 23 fights.

Just a slight edge for Davis though.

But there is a huge gap between reach advantage and height in favor of Ryan Garcia, experience for Davis.  Ryan Garcia is promising a 2nd round KO so let us see if he will deliver what he promised.

Yes you are right but without fighting almost a year then it's a good for train harder and study the strategy of his upcoming opponent. Maybe Garcia will take this advantage if tank Davis team will agree the fight and if this happen then this is a good fight as we all know how these two boxer  perform inside the ring. But Davis has enough time to practice which 3 months is good for him all ge need is to focus on training then for sure Davis make this fight better than other .

Yes, that's what he said that he want to really just focus on one fight next year and that is Davis. So maybe it a good thing after all, instead of having to trained against Gesta and think that they have the same style of Tank. And then later on, in the fight he has to adjust.

At least now, for sure Goosen has studied Davis' style and probably having a sit down already with Ryan as early as today, discussed about their strategy. At least in the drawing boards and then next year will have it work out in the gym.

Let's just hope that this one will materialize because both camps already had a verbal agreement about their fight.

It's a surprising news that Ryan Garcia won't be having his own tune-up fight before he fights Davis at a later date, I didn't expected this because he's too competitive with what Davis does, maybe he realized something. Well, I guess we will see if Ryan Garcia indeed made a good choice for not bringing a fight before a much heavier fight, it's been a while since he fought so there might be risks while Davis's situation is much warmer because he had his.
