I thought that Ryan Garcia will not get a tune up match, but he said in his twitter account that he will also be fighting in January in preparation for a Davis mega fight,

https://twitter.com/RyanGarcia/status/1594140891035205632

Still unnamed opponent though, but we should expect that it will be a less risk fight. And just like Tank, it will be against a B-level fighter.

Ryan Garcia is finally fighting against somebody who is in his level. He has been cherry picking in his last fights. I would understand if a tune-up fight against a weaker opponent is necessary after he is inactive and is not well. But it made me wonder why after a tune-up fight another tune-up fight was still needed. But that's the past already. At least for now he is already choosing a worthy opponent. His trash talks, confidence, and a bit of arrogance will now be tested inside the ring.

It was all Oscar Dela Hoya's decision to take a tune-up fight after that inactivity, but it wasn't a tune-up fight after tune-up fight because Ryan Garcia has been already scheduled to fight with Javier Fortuna around April 2021 after he fought with Luke Campbell but Garcia and his camp withdrew because he was having a mental breakdown from the depression and anxiety he was facing. Emmanuel Tagoe was the only tune-up fight.
Yes, they wanted to see how Ryan is, and so far he looks good in his comeback fight and after a win against Tagoe he was been calling Tank Davis for the longest time.

Although Davis is going to take a tune up fight, I never heard of Ryan doing the same, meaning that he could be ready for this fight already. And hopefully this fight is really going to happen, we don't need another excuses.

davis-garcia is a good match as finally, garcia will be fighting a higher level of boxer. however, they may not confirm it yet because davis has upcoming fight in few months. maybe, after his fight and he wins, davis may finally call for his match with garcia. let us see. this will be a good one for garcia to prove if he has really something to offer to the boxing fans fighting with the caliber like of davis.

There is no doubt that this fight is one of the most exciting fights next year but why they are taking too long to prepare for this one? I mean, it's more than 6 months of preparation, are they not gonna fight one or two more fights after that? This is not really recommended because injuries can happen in practice and training and it might lead to postponing or changing the boxer who is supposed to fight them.

Long preparation means a better chance for them to be 100% during the fight. This is a big fight so it deserves a long preparation, and although it's hard to predict who will win for sure we can expect that this fight is going to be a very exciting one. I would be surprise if there will be no knockdowns in this fight.

Me, I'm expecting a knockout here, both are aggressive and they will really test each other in throwing solid combinations,
It's the executions that will make one of them win the fight.

Yeah, long preparation will give both fighters enough time to review all the tapes that they need to observe and assess if
how the opponents will possibly create their strategy.

It will be a very interesting fought as these two are really calling each other and really wanted to test their respective capabilities.

Not that long because as we know Tank Davis have another fight schedule this coming 1st week of January and then the Ryan-Davis fight will happen somewhere in April. Just a little bit over 2 months from Davis's first fight next year, there's no such thing that Davis will train instantly on the 8th of January because he will need to recover and rest for a week or two depending on the damage he will receive against Hector.

I just also found out that Ryan Garcia has his own bout as well this January and probably days ahead before Davis's bout but Ryan didn't disclose any information on who might be his opponent. He just tweeted to stay tuned because he will also return this January, now that's interesting too.

@Yaunfitda. Agreed. They might not be the champions and the kings of their weight divisions, however, they have the biggest names. This is very much similar to Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz in the UFC, I reckon. It can also be argued that this fight might be as big or bigger than Spence vs. Crawford in excitement and expectation for the fans.

Yeah, they might not be champions but this is what hard core fans of this sweet science is longing for as well as the ordinary fans, they want to see toe to toe actions which for me this fight if pushes through could deliver the actions. I reckon that this is an even match, though Davis is the experienced fighter but Garcia has the size advantage that if used well could make life hard for Davis.

I just hope though that this would push through this time and not just hype on social media and end up like the Spence vs Crawford negotiation.

True, no belts, at least the regular one and yet this is one of the most anticipated fight, everyone is waiting for this, just like when we are all excited by the Spence vs Crawford fight. And I do agree that this is a 50:50 fight in my book, as Tank and Ryan possesses power in this division, the fight is going to be made in a catchweight of 136 lbs. As Ryan said he can't make it to 135 lbs no more and if I'm not mistaken he fought Tagoe at a catchweight at well. While Garcia fought at 135 lbs against Rolly Romero, he has a experience fighting at 140 lbs against Barrios.

Meaning, this might be Ryan Garcia's last fight in lightweight division because he cannot be fighting always on a catchweight until he will reach Devin Haney. One last dance just to fight Gervonta Davis, and if Ryan Garcia will win, he will eventually vacate that regular belt because as time go by he cannot achieve the weight needed in lightweight anymore. But that is still a challenge because Davis might not have the size but he have the ring IQ because of his experience he attained throughout the years, still a very interesting fight.

Good point. Davis might not have the size but with experienced and right sets of skills beating, Garcia is doable for this champ.
I can say that it will be an interesting fight between these two.

They have the speed and power that can KO their opponents. One single mistake or a miscalculation of their strategy can cause
them to lose the fight.

Still have lots of time for both to prepare and if I get it right, both will engage in a different fight before they settle this schedule
fight.

That's probably what he is thinking that's why he keep on pushing for a Tank Davis fight at 135 or 136 lbs catchweight because that could be very well his last fight at his division and what a better way to fight Tank.

For the record though, Davis doesn't have the regular belts, all the belts in with Haney. So whatever belt that will be put in line, it's nothing. This fight is probably for the money, these 2 are superstars in this division, the cash cow, not Haney, not Loma. And that is why fans are already hype as early when they hear the news that finally this fight is going to happen next year.

Although the odds are clearly on the Tank's side, KingRy can be surprising. This will be one of the most awaited next year's fight and there is already a lot of speculation around the fight.

Both athletes should be on the same mindset towards winning, so in that regard, they have about the same motivation. The value bet should be on KingRy side, however he's winning chances are shy. You can check the best odds and even calculate your own predictions here.

It's called a superlight and I understand why Davis is a slight favorite here because he had some good matchups in his pasts few games compared to Ryan Garcia who rested due to mental health issues and came back fighting boxers who are not legit champions.

Heard about his depression. Fame can sometimes become more of a problem for someone but mental health seem a good excuse to violate rules. He was once caught cheating on his wife.

Maybe it's true. Ryan has been ducking Davis for some time but now we can see him claiming it was Davis that he was chasing which Davis was ducking. I can't see Davis being afraid of this guy.

It's okay that they have their tune fights before they clash as long as they hold on to their promise that they are going to meet this year, Tank is the most sought-after to fight, first, there's Rolly who he beat, and now Ryan who he will also likely to beat
even Isaac Cruz wants to have a rematch, this caption Ryan tries to prove that he is the one who wants to make the fight happens.

This fight is years in the making as far as I read, Ryan Garcia had been chasing Davis for years now, I think since 2017 when he was still not that popular and Davis although replied on Ryan's tweet, ignored him because Davis thinks that Ryan is still too young and inexperience that time, Davis even called Ryan a kid.  At the same time, Davis thinks that fighting Ryan in the future will produce more income than fighting him at that date.

I believe Ryan should be thankful that Davis just ignored his call out since it would have destroyed Ryan by that time.  Even Ryan Garcia's promoter Oscar Dela Hoya thinks that Ryan wasn't ready at that time.

Fast forward, I still believe Davis has an advantage here, although he is the shorter guy and has a disadvantage on reach.  Davis has quick reflexes and has a good variety of angled punches that can go through his opponent's defense.  What more worth noticing is the ability of Davis to feint and directly redirect his punches to where he wanted to land it. You can check this video[1] on how good Davis is at feinting and hitting the target at the same time.

The only problem with Davis is his discipline.  I think he will be in trouble if he messed up in meeting the weight requirement because he will be chasing the required weight and will possibly over-exert himself making him not 100% condition on the fight.

Although I think Davis has the advantage, we can still say that there is a huge possibility of an upset win.  Since Ryan Garcia is also a KO artist and he has also good reflexes as seen in this video[2] .  I believe the key factor here will be the one who has faster reflexes.

Anyway, this video[3] is a good watch if we are curious how the Ryan Garcia - Tank Davis developed into a possible a Billion Dollar fight.

I believe this statement by Ryan Garcia is an overstatement.  Beating Davis doesn't put him to be the best boxer in the world.  It may put him to be one of the best boxers but the best boxer, I think he needs to beat a lot more boxer in the higher division.

I think its better for OP to lock this thread, we have the latest Tank fight discussion, and it's again a different Garcia after the fight we can open the thread again to continue to discuss the Ryan Garcia - Tank Davis fight, The Hector Luis Garcia obviously is a cherry-picked fight but the guy is undefeated and can hold against tough opponents/

Gervonta Davis VS Hector Luis Garcia SAT, JAN 07, 2023

It does mean that Ryan Garcia vs. Davis is not finalized correct?

That is correct, I'm under the notion that once Davis win against Hector Luis Garcia, Ryan will be his next opponent. Although our big question is why Davis need a tune up fight that is close to his fight with KingRy in May. Maybe the May date might be push a little bit further to give time for Tank Davis to recover and train for Ryan Garcia. And I understand the confusion because he will be fighting boxers with the same last name. But Davis can boast that he beat both of them later.

Ryan Garcia will also have another match before this highly anticipate fight between Davis right? I’m not sure though but it can be a good preparation for their big fight. Anyway, Davis seems to be the favorite here looking at the numbers but it can’t tell the result, we know that both of then are undefeated and great, so this up coming fight is really exciting, Ryan Garcia should start preparing now and look for good strategies to beat Davis. I’ll go for Ryan on this match, against the odds.

No, there is no scheduled or tune up fight from Ryan Garcia, he wanted to go straight to Tank.

An with that, there is no preparation that he will like before Tank Davis. Maybe you can ask him today and says that he is ready to fight him tomorrow. That's how Ryan being obsessed with a Davis fight, again it's because we wanted to have the respect when he fight and beat Tank. And of course, he is also motivated on the money that both of them are going to earn in this clash.

I'm not aware that Ryan will also have a tune up fight before the Davis clash.

And that is why it's a surprised to most boxing fans here that Davis will have another Garcia in his calendar. Nevertheless, it shows confusion as it was just days before they announced a Ryan Garcia fight is almost done or have been sealed already. And then Hector Garcia came into the picture.

I know that Davis has some problems with the law, and with that, are they anticipating that he will be found guilty, that's why they push for the Hector Garcia fight first?

This fight between Davis and Hector Garcia is already a go, i mean this would push through as scheduled but the fight with Ryan Garcia in April or May next year might not push through as Davis will be facing a trial this February 2023 for a hit and run case which sources have said that it is pretty serious that Davis will be in prison if guilty for four to one year so that means that he could not fight next year after the Hector Garcia fight.
