BTC-e shit is down     LOL

I warned about BTC-e(and many like them) since years ago... Smiley

BTC value will drop for sure  Smiley

I just heard that they tried to run away with approximately 66k bitcoin. It's good that police were able to track them down. But I am sure the legitimate bitcoin owners will never get back their amount and it will be seized by the government to fill up their treasury as unclaimed funds.

It is really a sad news because due to these kind of scammers, the reputation of bitcoin is in danger and general people will think that bitcoin users are mostly scammers because they don't get to look at the bigger pictures.

and it's almost true. 80% from the BTC market is coming from the black market...

BTC will become a real asset when ALL the exchangers will be regulated(financial license).

BEST case scenario, there servers are broken and getting fixed, VERY unlikely.  Worst case BTC-e is a front for money laundering and such, more than, and hopefully not.  More than likely they're down so the feds can go over they're records.

So what will happen to btc balances on siite? It looks like all funds are gone.. Huh

It's a bit ironic. Gox got goxxed due to btc-e - Now, it's like a reverse goxx'ing....  Huh Scary/sad stuff. Let's see if this guy actually makes it out of the prison - Pretty sure the russian mobsters who "own" this guy won't let him spill much if anything... Time will tell I guess... Not sure how people who do this kind of thing sleep at night, but then again when you are insanely rich you probably feel a bit ahead of the pack.

Scary news. One day things seem fine. Next day you switch on your PC and everything's gone. Crypto is not for the faint-hearted.

Don't let others control your BTC -> self custody

I remember when years ago people were asking about them and saying they might flee because nobody knows the owners, they're protecting themselves well for some reason and stuff like that, but they continued to operate and they would have continued had the owner stayed in Russia, especially now when the US announced that Russia is their enemy and was trying to manipulate the elections. Russia would've never given him up to the States and it's the US that requested his arrest, so it was a bad move on his part.
I think they are looking for new, secure servers and will come back.

Slava Ukraini!
Few hours ago BTC-E tweeted about maintenance which can take 5 -10 days. But I don't believe that they will come back. If they won't come back, it means that I lost f**king $2! Never liked this exchange due to their big fees
But I hate to see when popular bitcoin services goes out of business. This year we already lost few leaders in their spheres - firstly Directbet decided to close, few days ago Bitmixer closed service for unclear reasons and now BTC-E owner is arrested and service is down. It looks that everything is temporary in bitcoin world...
But maybe it's too early to say goodbye to btc-e. Let's hope they will come back.

YEP!

https://www.theverge.com/2017/7/26/16035702/btce-arrest-bitcoin-alexander-vinnik-mt-gox-theft-suspect

Quote
Greek police have arrested one of the central figures in the Bitcoin exchange BTC-e on suspicion of money laundering. Russian citizen Alexander Vinnik was arrested in Greece at the request of US law enforcement, according to a Reuters report.

The BTC-e exchange has long been a favorite of criminals, as its headquarters in Russia places it outside the reach of US and European law enforcement. Recent Google research found that 95 percent of ransomware cash-outs occurred through the BTC-e exchange, although it’s unclear whether the exchange itself would be liable for those payments.

Those payments have made BTC-e one of the largest bitcoin exchanges, regularly handling more than 3 percent of total Bitcoin transactions. The exchange has been down since Tuesday evening.

Flashback for me - BTC-e was the first place I tried trading, I LOVED their order books they were lightning fast and always had volume. After taking a break from crypto and coming back to see all the new exchanges, btc-e's volume definitely dropped a lot compared to back then, so I don't think we're going to see a change in btc price if this does take them offline for good.

this doesn't say anything specifically about BTC-E. It does say they laundered billions of dollars over the years, but that is probably more likely to be Virwox. That shit is shady as hell and makes no sense. u ever go to that one?
It doesn't say anything about BTC-E, that's right, but the absence of their service and the co owner that got arrested on the same day are no longer coincidence.

I am actually surprised and glad at the same time that at least for now, it seems that the servers aren't seized ~ but that's just speculation.

Virwox has been active since 2007, where the recent articles are pointing at a service that started operating in 2011, which matches up perfectly with BTC-E.

Why do you think that the price would go down just because of one exchange. It is a really hard think to see that an exchange goes down like this, what happens to the coins which are being deposited in the site,i really feel bad for the users as i think all of their coins are stuck with them and it will take a long time to get it back,if they are lucky.

Let's hope that's simply the time it takes for the Feds to snapshot their data and return the servers... My altcoins there have nothing to do with their shenanigans.

My buddy told me not to use btc-e exchanger. So they were really scammers, it seems. There is no service repair that could take 5-10 days. Kindly beware they are gone .

Server repair takes hours, not days.

Yay! Even more FUD to lower the price. Until this market gets some regulation at least from an exchange standpoint this stuff will continue to happen.

There's no accountability, so why would they follow the law.

This is ridiculous. The Americans have detained a Russian citizen in Greece, for running a Bitcoin operation from Bulgaria. Now they want him deported to the United States. WTF? Why the Americans can't mind their own business.

Most states require money services businesses operating within their territory to be licensed with the state banking department.  Note that many states also require registration of foreign MSBs(finacial company) that transact with their residents.  For example, money transmitters with no physical presence in Texas that transact with residents of Texas must be licensed in the State of Texas; same with all the other states.

So, if your company is registered in EU or any in other country and  it makes financial transactions(you are an exchanger) with US residents, you MUST be MSB in all the States.

US considers that once you deal with US residents, you must respect their law. See the casinos too; same shit Smiley  The casinos(even they are registered in EU) are not allowed to deal with US citizens.
