there's reason why so many big investment firm and companies are having their big share of investments in btc and not in alts because they know it's relatively safe investment and could still gives good ROI.
the thing is, with alts even though sometimes the ROI is indeed multiple folds of btc, but it also carries risk, you could judge if you happened to hold coins like luna and ftt i'm sure by now you're already broke but if you hold btc its just losing some fraction of its value.
while it is safer for Bitcoin to be the choice yet? altcoin shows bigger opportunity for short term investing But the problem is which to choose and how long will it take?
there are several occassion that  I do the same strategy buying bitcoin but also buying altcoins for other option.
and  this is what have been called diversification .
Indeed, when talking about short-term investments, of course altcoins are still a reasonable choice,
make sure we need to do research before determining which altcoin we invest in,
occasionally it is important to carry out a diversification strategy.
completely wrong , Diversification does not have to be occasionally but each time mate , we must have many coin that single investment and this has been proven for how many years now? though determining the coins to keep hold  is the harder part but diversifying is what investors in our time now must have and trust me you will also love having those in daily basis.
In crypto it doesn't make much difference diversifying the portfolio among different currencies, because all of them are affected by bitcoin's fluctations after all. If btc pumps, altcoins also pump and if bitcoin dumps, altcoins simply dump as well. A diversified crypto portfolio would be interesting if altcoins had independent life. The only advantage of holding different cryptocurrencies is that one of them might present superior percentage appreciation, so you are highly benefited if you hold a decent number of those tokens. But that is a kind of lottery anyway.

I recently made some money through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing, and I'm considering using it to purchase some Bitcoin. Only a tiny sum, roughly $800, is involved. What do you suggest doing right now? Purchase some Bitcoin or another cryptocurrency with a promising future.

What replacement coins would you recommend?
Long term I would suggest going with bitcoin as there is less pump and dump schemes like we usually see with altcoins, but on the contrary general performance shows there is always an altcoin out performing btc and the million dollar question is which altcoin to catch which will bring these big numbers.

I think majority here will advise you to just buy BTC and then hold.
Going with btc is playing it safe, to maximize one's investment potential one has to venture into altcoin investments as they are profitable to despite them mostly riding the bitcoin wave.

I will be interested in accumulating bitcoin and also good altcoins. I understand that bitcoin is the most safest investment but when I see the returns in the altcoins I just can't control myself or resist myself not to buy the altcoins.

To keep myself secure and protected I will definitely follow the money management where I buy more bitcoins while allocate some part of my portfolio in top 10 altcoins.

It's hard to make some sort of profit on bitcoin when we are talking about just a few months, it is possible with like leverage or so but it's really hard. On the other hand, if we are talking about making profit based on just altcoins then it would be very hard to keep them for too long as well, it would mean that we are required to keep it while that altcoin not crashing during that period or turn out to be a scam or a shady thing or hacked etc etc.

I agree that for short term max 2 months it's better to have altcoins, and if we are talking about 3 months or longer than it would be wiser to hold bitcoin. That's the difference between those two, but I could add ETH to the long term as well.

It seems that you are inexperienced, so it's better to just test your self by buying BTC instead of investing on alts as they are very volatile at the moment so the risk is very high. So I would agree with the majority, instead on BTC, keep in safe in a wallet wherein you have total control of, forget about it and just comeback when we are in a bull run and see how your $800 grow overtime.
the reason is because BTC, the only strongest coin, has definite fundamentals and very strong utility. as we can see the OP made the thread a few months ago and the possible BTC price is around $17k and now the BTC price is going up to $18k price, that is one small and real proof that BTC is really worth holding long term. bitcoin is able to survive in any situation and always provide the best in the future.
different from some altcoins which usually can't survive in a bearish situation like this and they just disappear.
I'm not saying altcoins aren't good but bitcoin is more feasible for the long term and altcoins are worth holding short term when bullish arrives.

Are you going to hodl it? If yes, then go btc, or if you wanna take a greater risk. Split your money, 50% in btc, and go altcoin with the rest. Just to keep you busy while holding your btc. You might get lucky if you found a good project and may earn more than your hodling in btc. Or just invest your 50% in top 5 or 10 altcoins if you are a bit worried.

You have answered your own question. You said you considered buying Bitcoin, didn't you? So, just go on with Bitcoin.  Wink
You must know that Bitcoin is the safest coin for crypto investment. Bitcoin is the king and it always stays at the number 1 of the most favorite coin. If you plan to invest for the long term, Bitcoin is surely the most recommended coin. Investing in altcoins is riskier, altcoins are more volatile and altcoins may experience a huge decrease in their hype.

Never seek for replacement when it is about Bitcoin mate , try to believe in the benefits of Bitcoin .
you can add some but never take big part from your Bitcoin  holding .
Buy more and more Bitcoin but only bring small amount to altcoins , this will keep your funds safely for long term .
Keep your mind up for the top coin  mate .

There are thousands of alt coin and not every of it is worthy for investment. If I talk about myself to me Bitcoin is the first and foremost choice of investment. To me there is no point of investing in alts since they go up only when bitcoin goes up and vice verse. If you have to invest in alts then choose top 10 from coinmarketcap, you can get fair idea from that. Keep 80 to 20 ratio, 80% for BTC and 20% for alts.

a mature plan to settle down holding bitcoin sometimes switches to other choices because it gets stuck in a FOMO increase of 1000x which doesn't match the results. which is definitely the main bitcoin for the long term from now on and no doubt about it. allocate altcoins only 30% nascent project clear
allocating 30% is best way to diversify , or at least 50% to some altcoins and the rest 50% is for Bitcoin so if bitcoin stays low for a while then there are chances that altcoin will give you way to profit .

I know that there are  some that oppose here , that it is best to sole bitcoin investing but I know that many of us have altcoins in our wallets aside from bitcoin.

well, top listed coins isn't that hard to trust our investments at least try to put money in top 3? or top 5 for safer fund investing.
Investing in top 3 cryptocurrencies mean you are going to diversify your portfolio between Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and Tether (USDT). The first two currencies are fine, but do you really trust Tether? The community has many suspicions regards stablecoins, especially USDT, as they were already caught lying about having value reserves to back dollar in 1:1 proportion. They are a centralized company and demand adopters to trust their word, just like FTX and Celsius companies did right before collapsing. So if you are really going to introduce Tether to your holdings, think about these aspects before.

For me when bear market start trading pair switch to alt/usd and scalp trading or buy when dip happen. When bullmarket start switch back to alt/btc. Keep in mind many alt will dien when bear market hit, even exchanges will gone with customers fund, last cycle most altcoin only pump 2000% same as btc did, so whats the point holding alt, that depend on your strategy when trading alt/btc or alt/usd

any Update mate? what have you decided? it is more interesting if you are truly investing here and not just created the thread to spam ,

asking us what can be the decision? for me it is better to make it half, Bitcoin for the half and altcoins for another half?

it is safer and more practical to have than just pure altcoins or in pure bitcoin.
We've seen behavior like this over and over again not even a single reply to the thread he made. So I doubt he did it and with $ 800 to devided to altcoins is not wise in my opinion indeed altcoins if you are lucky can provide big and fast profits and that is equal to the risk of losing too. Bitcoin is the best option by continuing to add it in the long run he will see his assets go up maybe not thousands of percent but it's still better than just keeping it in the bank, or an altcoin that if he chooses the wrong one will only make him lose money.

This is how portfolio needs to be created. The bitcoin holding needs to be big against the buying of altcoins. If you spend $70 buying bitcoin, spending $30 seems to be fair. It is evident that some altcoins give better ROI against bitcoin. For the same we can't be sure of the growth whereas the same will be assured with bitcoin.
diversification but will always be favoring bitcoin , this is how we must treat our folio and yes 70/30 is either supported by majority than a few because this will serve winnings in long term.

I don't find any altcoins to spend, but my choice will be on low price altcoins within the top 100 list. With altcoin investment we need to be close observing, if not we might end up missing opportunities which is hard to come again.

Did I hear it right that altcoins can give a better ROI than in Bitcoin? HHmm I am not sure if I can agree with that. Maybe they only focus on the current status of BTC but they didn't calculate right at the beginning when BTC is still valued at under a cent. Can any altcoin start from zero up to 69k dollars?

I never seen one yet but the only crypto that can do that so far is Bitcoin. A lot of people think that altcoins can increase faster than in BTC. They only focus on the gains but they didn't knew that altcoins that act like that are mostly pump and dump which later on can turned into a scam once the devs or the whales already trapped a lot of people inside it.
