Altcoins can be good equity investments but when compared to Bitcoin, Bitcoin is the best. We know that many types of altcoins are constantly coming to the crypto market, many of them are surviving and many are disappearing. But Bitcoin is in the same position. Maybe because of the bearish market the prices reduce massively. while the dominating coins like FTX and Luna were in crisis, so noting is good compare to the bitcoin. But with BTC there is no such concern. If the market is bullish it will again touch the new all time high.

It could be both, depends on your specifications on how you put your venture with but definitely I would go to BTC hence this is the buy zone of bitcoin right now due to bad market sentiments. Some altcoins are worth it too, any top 10 on CMC is nice to buy and hold too.
Bitcoin will always be my choice no matter what altcoin may bring me , but of course if we can diversify then why need to choose one? i am for diversification as I am holding altcoins(with best potential of course) than pure bitcoin or pure altcoin , as remember never put your eggs in single basket.
I think that saying about diversification is good to follow for someone who prioritize tokens and some random altcoins because both of these are risky. By diversifying, it allows them to reduce their risks. For BTC. It's definitely fine if you are going to all in your funds in it. This coin has no issues as long as we know how to HODL strongly so that we can survive any bear markets and unexpected fall on the price due to some circumstances.

Another reason on why going solo for BTC is good is because some cryptos can only depend on the performance of BTC. Matic, Tron and BNB are top altcoins and just like Bitcoins. You can also HODL them for longer terms.

I recently made some money through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing, and I'm considering using it to purchase some Bitcoin. Only a tiny sum, roughly $800, is involved. What do you suggest doing right now? Purchase some Bitcoin or another cryptocurrency with a promising future.

What replacement coins would you recommend?

If you hodl your money 2 to 5+ years than go for Bitcoin, Because Bitcoin is best option for long term investment without any doubt.

For short term invest go for altcoin like Matic,Tron,BNB etc.
practical way , buy bitcoin for long term and altcoin if short term.

Of course, you can't build a large portfolio on $800. It depends on what goals you are pursuing with your investments. If you want to preserve the value of your money over time, then invest in bitcoin, and if you want to multiply capital, then altcoins. I might also suggest the option of investing simultaneously in bitcoin and altcoins if you plan to add investments in cryptocurrencies in the future.

IMHO.

I would say there are two communities, i.e. bitcoin and altcoins. For somehow, my trust over the time is limited only to bitcoin, since alrcoins move up only when bitcoin goes up. What's the point in investing in Eth as it will only go up when bitcoin goes and vice verse? Moreover altcoins are subject to crash like we saw Luna this year. DYOR before making any decision.

Not all altcoins are subject to this rule. There are altcoins that can grow even when bitcoin, and other altcoins along with it, are falling in value. In other words, their price is almost independent of whether the market is bearish or bullish. Such altcoins are not a lot, but nevertheless they are present on the market.

This is best time to buy in and DCA. When the price drops massively and most people have forgotten BTC or sold. Bear markets are my favourite, everything is on a big discount ready for the next BTC halving in 2024 May and bull run

I am one of the lucky people, who were dumb enough to believe in bitcoin and it paid off. But because I was skeptical, I did not invest much nor did I win much. but I feel like bitcoin always bounces back.

So, now is the perfect time to invest, no matter the sum. But you will need to wait, wait until it goes back at least half the price it was last year around this time. I am sure it will bounce back
I went through the same experience that I was too optimistic with bitcoin but when I've shared it to my friends, I took the bashing and skepticism.

But luckily, I just continued and took time to keep bitcoin as much as I can and it paid off. So for OP, by bitcoin and you'll get to see your patience will also bear fruit in the future.

never choose  option about Bitcoin mate , because you cannot find another safer and secure currency in crypto than this, yes there are some good promises from altcoins but the stability and the security will never be the same as bitcoin trust me when i said that.
exactly , trusting other coins more than Bitcoin will make us suffer in the future as we choose to be  in not so secure currencies .

replacing bitcoin is like trying to gamble your money in gambling in which not so really a good idea .

Bitcoin or Altcoins is a problem that will never be solved by bulls of markets. In general Bitcoin causes altcoins to raise, so some people believe buying Bitcoin may be better position because you gain money early and distribute it to altcoins later. Some think altcoins are more profitable compared to Bitcoin because of their small market cap. So they tend to say it's better to buy altcoins to do 2x 3x. You should decide your trading style in my opinion.

In my opinion, no need to distinguish, we can invest in both and choose the right time for each type. During the bull season, it will become easier to invest in altcoins and make it easy for us to make a profit. But during bear season, we should focus more on bitcoin to be safe and still make a profit, investing in altcoins during a bear season is very risky. Altcoins can thrive during the bull season but also die during the bear season. So, as long as we know how to invest wisely, we won't need to choose between the two.

Of course this depends on someone, for those who like big profits and in a short time then the best thing is invest in altcoins, as we know that altcoins fluctuations are very high, even altcoins that are still new can skyrocket 100% in a day, of course we also have to understand Because the price of drops can also occur faster at Altcoins.
Actually for long term investment for me both are the same right choice,
but back again everyone has their own choice depending on which one they prefer,
The important thing is always do research before investing

Stop saying that altcoins will give you big profits, between Bitcoin and Altcoins, neither of them will guarantee that you will get big profits when investing in them. Cryptocurrency was not created to be a digital asset that gives people big profits when people invest in it, this is a digital asset for transactions, investing in crypto is very risky and no one can guarantee that the value of your assets will remain the same now or tomorrow. What's more, what you say looks more like a gamble than an investment.
He is actually right about it but he needs to be more specific because altcoins are not a single coin. Only the alts that can give you a big profit are top alts like Ethereum and BNB. There are also hidden gem altcoin which can do the same and they can pump high on their early days but like any other established alts, their growth can be slower later on.

Bitcoin is the primary coin which can give us a big profit because it had a lot of supporters and they are willing to HODL for too long and even buy more. There is a gamble in investing because cryptos are highly volatile but as long as we know how to pick a proper coin, we can minimize our chance of losing and then maximize our chance of gaining a profit.

Bitcoin will be better, go for the long term I suggest and keep earning from what you already did, after that you can always DCA to Bitcoin and leave it until the next bull run probably we can expect that around next year. Don't waste your money on shitcoin or whatever it is. If you insist on investing in altcoins just look for top altcoins and do some research before that.

If you're willing to hold for long term then Bitcoin is the good option because it's a reliable coin and less risky. However don't expect to gain like x10 or more of your initial investment since it's only possible in alts that didn't reach yet their all time high, though this kind of coin is hard to find.
that is practicality , the question does not stand closely because he don't wanna lose but he seems to be confused to what is really to invest for.

So it's up to you on what you prefer. Is it to invest in Bitcoin which is already proven to be profitable if you invest but it might take time before you can gain? Or alts such as ETH, BNB or a hidden gem that have high risk compared to Bitcoin but can possibly give you huge profit? DYOR to have a better understanding before you invest.
maybe adding more bitcoin and some small altcoins for complete investment portfolio with diversified one .

For now my biggest portion is altcoins, I check about 92% and bitcoin is only about 8%, in my opinion for bigger profits only if we hold altcoins, the opportunity to profit 100% is easier than bitcoin, this is because most altcoins prices are still cheap, Moreover, some of the altcoins that I hold still cost under $ 1 so that I have the opportunity to profit hundreds or even thousands of percent.
Too risky when your portfolio is full of altcoins, if things were that easy, I think people would invest in altcoins and not need bitcoins. Investing in altcoins can give good returns, but you can also lose your entire fortune when investing in altcoins, altcoins cannot guarantee your safety. As you said, you are investing in altcoins under 1 dollar, it proves you are investing mainly in shitcoin, even no top coin. You should keep in mind that shitcoin under $1 doesn't mean it can go to $10 or $100, you need a thorough analysis as well as its supply.
I can only wish you success with your venture capital investment.

If your altcoin is an altcoin that has the potential to increase, you can still hope that one day your altcoin will increase again when the altcoin season returns to the market. But if the altcoins are mostly coins or tokens that are meaningless or difficult to upgrade, you will find it difficult to sell your altcoins because you also won't know when your altcoins will increase even though the altcoin season has come to the market. But you can still hope that the altcoin you hold can increase, even though you don't know if the altcoin is good.
