BTC, a coin of today and tomorrow.
I am happy at the progress that Nigerian unofficial local board made this January. I had to visit previous updates and noticed that there is more activeness now compared to December last year.
The board recorded 131 posts December, 2021 and 149 posts January, 2021. The difference is about 18 posts and I made a total of 14 posts to be the 3rd most active January, 2022. Maybe I am the difference.

The number of merits issued in Nigerian Local Board is not matching with the quality of posts there. If Theymos can grant the merit application of Upgrade00 and Charles-Tim, it will help circulate merit in the board. Other merit sources can also come to the board, who knows you can like our pigin english and issue merit to deserving posts. Hopefully we can have our locale board one day.

I guess it is related to forums in general, which have been declining for some time now and there are no signs that activity will pick up any time soon.
Yeah its a general trend among forums (at least the ones I am pat of) so bitcointalk is not exception here.

People have gradually lost interest in writing/reading, preferring to speak on podcasts or make videos.
I believe this is the reason for this decline. In addition to the fact that more and more information about Bitcoin and the like, there is less interest in going to forums to look for information.

Mate, I'm really happy to see a big increase like this in the Indonesian Local Board because people are starting to care about the quality of posts. I just hope they can maintain and also improve the quality of their posts in the future so that we can actually increase the number of merit distributed every month. It was a good performance that I expected from them, but unfortunately I didn't contribute much to merit last January because I didn't have enough sMerit.
Yeah it's nice to see Indonesian board among most merited ones as you are very active board. I do think that you still have a loot of room for improvement despite this increase as when i started making these overviews almost 2 years ago, you had pretty much similar amount of posts (~1200) and something like 50% more merits shared than you had last month. Then again, I have no idea whether post quality remained the same like it was before.

Maybe a new forum software, better suited to mobile platforms, is in order?
To be honest I don't think that would reverse the trend, but that doesn't mean that it wouldn't help to some degree to slow the decline. I personally don't mind not having mobile version, but from the experience on some other forums, I did notice that people prefer using those.

And in the end, lost of those responsible for keeping their boards alive. joker_josue is once again the most active member across all local boards with 279 posts, beating last month's top poster willi9974 who has 240 posts. Keep it up guys!

Congratulations to @willi9974 , who makes this top more competitive.  Tongue

For the month of February, I shouldn't be first, I had a few weeks with fewer posts than usual. We'll see.  Roll Eyes

In a nutshell, there are no major changes at the top. The Russian, German and Turkish boards always hold their positions in the top three, and there are no signs that any other board can unseat them anytime soon. When compared with last year's charts, we can see that the number of posts across local boards have decreased significantly, but this is in line with the general decline in forum activity. I guess it is related to forums in general, which have been declining for some time now and there are no signs that activity will pick up any time soon.

Maybe a new forum software, better suited to mobile platforms, is in order? @theymos, can you share your thoughts on this?

Another board with big increase is Indonesian as they had only 243 merits shared, while during last month that number went up to 598 which is more than a double.

Communities marked with * (Pakistan, Nigerian, Bangladesh) don't have their own local boards.

Post activity per local board during January 2022

During January 2022 19539 posts were made, which is a bit lower than December 2021 during which 20817 posts were written. No big change at the top: Russian board by far  the most active one as usual, while both German and Turkish board kept their positions, being 2nd and the 3rd most active board.

Not many boards experienced increase in post count, with basically only Indonesian board having decent growth compared to December ( from 937 to 1211 which is approximately 30% increase). When it comes to boards that experienced  decrease, only Bangladesh sticks out with almost 60% decrease. Few others with a noticeable loss are Italian that had ~20% loss compared to previous month (from 985 to 755), and eventually Russian board with ~13%  decrease while other boards were mostly below 10% decrease.

Once again kudos to Nigerian and Pakistan communities for keeping a respectable activity despite not having own local board. Bangladesh is still decently active but their numbers went down a lot compared to previous months and it might affect their chances of getting local board.

Merit shared per local board during January 2022

When it comes to merit shared in the above mentioned period, there was an increase: from 6633 in December to 7070 during January 2022 which is not bad at all considering that January was less active, post wise.

No changes at the top compared to December 2022: Russian is far ahead the others as usual (which is not a surprise given their post count), followed by German, Turkish and Italian while this time Indonesian board finished at the 5th spot.

When it comes to biggest gainers, Dutch board really sticks out as during December 2021 they didn't have any merits shared while in the last month that number went up to 52.  Another board with big increase is Indonesian as they had only 243 merits shared, while during last month that number went up to 598 which is more than a double. Few other boards went significantly up: Arabic, from 113 to 199 which is more in line with their usual numbers while Portuguese wasn't bad either, with close to 40% increase. Considering their activity I think that they have a lot of room for increase.

When it comes to decrease, Pilipinas board sticks out with ~35% decrease (from 29 to 19, followed by Spanish board that had ~30% less merit shared compared to previous period while no other decently active board didn't have any significant loss in the amount of merit shared. I really have no idea what's happening with Pilipinas board as considering their activity their merit numbers should be much higher and somehow I doubt that post quality there is so low.

Merit senders and receivers per local board during January 2022

Straightforward chart that pretty much follows the amount of merit shared, with few odd cases like previously mentioned Pilipinas board.

Merit/Post ratio per local board for January 2022

Dutch board is kinda messing this chart with 4.3 merit/post ratio, due 52 merits shared while having only 12 posts written but thanks to 12 month average we can see that their real numbers are way more normal. These kind of anomalies can happen with boards that are not too active as all you need is a couple of good posts to affect the ratio drastically. As we can see, blue color still dominates meaning we are still feeling the effect of the increased amount of merit sources.

The most active members per local board during January 2022

And in the end, lost of those responsible for keeping their boards alive. joker_josue is once again the most active member across all local boards with 279 posts, beating last month's top poster willi9974 who has 240 posts. Keep it up guys!

It’s a kind of deja vu, my friend.
It’s a glitch in the matrix, but I think I just wanted to make fun of your laziness in updating this thread.
But my hubris made some superior entity angry, so I ended up with a blunter in someone else thread.
So, just to put things in the right perspective: my meta thread is waiting for your much needed contribution

Looking at Merit Dashboard and incomplete data for January (up until January 28th), seems like you are having a great month, merit wise. As a matter of fact, it will be your best month in almost two years, since April 2020. Did you finally get a new merit source, or the current ones became more active?
No new merit source have been added, but my efforts and some of the other contributors seem to be starting to make some bounty hunters care about the quality of their posts. They started participating in the merit circulation in the Local Board at this time and it had increased the number of distributions so far. Ratimov has also helped a lot in the thread I moderated which has also increased the number of merit source that helped us apart from DdmrDdmr.

Ouch!
This is a bad news for the Italian board, which has been desperately trying to close the gap since a few months now.

Jokes aside, best of luck to our Indonesian friend, we are looking for a real struggle!
Lol don't be afraid because we are the slugs and you are the flash. Cheesy

Also thanks for your kind support. Maybe it would be better if you also support my merit source app so that it can encourage us to have a bit better speed.  Wink

Communities marked with * (Pakistan, Nigerian, Bangladesh) don't have their own local boards. At least not for now, but hopefully that changes in the future.

Hopefully, the Nigerian board will be created someday. It's very difficult to have a good conversation on a single thread with image and stats, so I'm not surprised I didn't make the stats two weeks in a row. I've been a little busy, and my activity on the forum has also declined.

We have over 30 active members on that thread, not considering newbies to the stats.

There is merit source applications way back in 2018
crwth merit source application but it's almost 4 years and nothing gonna happen I think theymos will not accept a merit sources application for now.
It won't hurt to have another merit source application, if there is someone from your board willing to submit one.

If other users from the Philippines decide to apply for merits source I think they will struggle to choose 10 quality threads posted within 3 months old or younger.
You don't have to submit 10 quality threads but 10 posts you think deserve more merit, as simple as that.

Collect TEN posts written in the last couple of months by other people that have not received nearly enough merit for how good they are, and post quotes for them all in a new Meta thread. The point of this is to demonstrate your ability to give out merit usefully.

Thank you so much Rikafip for the monthly update and now we know the merits stats per month for our local board. But sad to say my local board was one of those slower merits cycles in this forum. Even though our local merit sources will not be active anymore but still the users mentioned above trying to circulate their merits. Once again thanks for the updates.
In that case, it's probably time for some of your active members to apply for a merit source status.

When I first started doing these overviews Philippines board was one of the most merited ones so it sucks to see it so low on the chart. Hopefully, that changes though, but you (members of your board) have to donate something about it.

Yes, you are right that in the past few years many generous users who given merits to that worthy user who posted a quality reply/thread. And that's why the merits circulation is higher than nowadays.

Sure, but I know you always will do for . As usual, that's great data analysis mate.
As I said before, I've updated my thread first although I'm also doing it a bit later than before. It is known, the number of merit distributed in December 2021 at the Indonesian Local Board decreased by 28.3% compared to November 2021 which amounted to 339 merit. For December 2021, the number of merit distributed at the Indonesian Local Board was only 243 merits. But I believe in January we will have an increase.  Wink

Indeed, what actually happened to the Pilipinas section of the forum?
Seems like  November (170 merits shared in that period) was nothing but an exception for their board, as they have pretty much similar numbers to Decmeber in the last 6-7 months. I hoped that situation changed back in November, but I guess they still have the same issue.

Are their merit sources  became inactive so it’s time for some new merit sources?
Yeah, that could be the case as I doubt that their post quality fluctuates that much. In the end, only their members can say what's exactly going on there, we can only guess.

Really very interesting data, there was finally a reversal of the long-term trend, and the number of posts increased on the forum, but unfortunately the number of merits decreased.
