Improve cooling of the card
Also, make sure your PSU is producing stable 12V (no less than 11.5V)

i think the psu is not the problem because the r9 280x work just fine.. but how do i check/fix this?
Run GPU-Z or HWInfo and see/post what are GPU temps and reported voltages

As earlier you reported seeing 94 Celsuis on 290.. its badly overheating

1) I downloaded and install 15.12 amd driver but it shows 15.8 version in MSI afterburner, anybody have that problem?
2) Also is there a way to show valid and invalid share (in ethpool.org) using claymore gpu miner v3.2 when mining on ethpool?

Thanks in advance Smiley

update your Afterburner.
I had same problem with old version of GPU-Z

My effictive average Hashrate is on both miners I use way off (about 5-10 MH/s).

Miner1:
Reported 142,1 MH/s; Effective Average Hashrate 136.5 MH/s (which is on the higher side, it can go down to almost 130 MH/s)

Miner2:
Reported 134,3 MH/s; Effective Average Hashrate 125.8 MH/s

Pool: Ethermine;
Miner: Claymore's miner in eth only mode.
Windows 7 with mixed GPUs.

I'am aware of the dev fee, but it shouldn't be more than 1,5 MH/s.
With this miner I have almost no invalid shares, and it restarts if anything happens - which is great. But also more watt consumption and apparently no real average (24h) MH/s gain. (reported hashrate is about 5% higher with this miner).

Anyone else with this problem?

btw, this miner just keeps blowing my mind. i put decred intensity to 50% and it made my eth hashrate better lol from 63 to 64 and decred from 900 to 1600.

as for my R9 290 issue. it's still happening. the gpu clock just wont stay where i put it with msi afterburner. it starts out that way but then as the card gets hotter the gpu core clock will go down to 820ish. i think i will try underclocking it to 800mh/s see if it's stable.. any other ideas? thx

It is normal for gpu clock to reduce when temp exceeds threshold defined in the gpu bios its called thermal throttling, if you are having problems with temps then you really shouldn't be overclocking it in the first place.

Bit off topic but I am really curious what makes Decred so much more difficult to mine than Ethereum?  Ethereum mining is at 40 MH/s and is just about the exact same amount of .5 coins roughly a day as the Decred which is at just over 600 MH/s.

different algorithms have different hashrate. so 600mh/s may look like "alot" compared to eth hashspeed. but it's not.. it's just like comparing oranges and potatos.. if you try to mine something like monero it will give you way less hashrate Smiley it depends on the algorithm.

To mine ETH you need a minimum 2 Gb RAM per card, otherwise the DAG won't load into the cards's memory

Might be specific for this miner, I was mining Ethereum using QTMiner on a machine that had 1 GIG of ram in the machine (and a 2 Gig GTX960).

It had to do some special manipulation stuff on the DAG per some of the messages I saw out of it, which meant the first DAG took bloody near forever to get set up, but it then mined successfully for a while (I ended up moving the card to a different machine in a "consolodation" move after a couple days).

I would RECOMMEND at least 2 GIG main system memory to avoid this issue, though.

Win 10 is rock solid over here, fastest os regarding mining i ever used. No shit with installing gpu drivers when having more than 5 GPU's. It just works.

Have you ever tried installing more than 4 video cards under Win 7? I had a 6 card rig working fine on Win 10 but reversed it to Win 7 in hope of getting better speeds but problems immediately arose when some cards refused to work.

Does Win 7 has any limitation to the number of video cards simultaneously installed?

Yes i use the mod, any more than 4 gpu in win 7 and there are issues which the mod fixes perfectly. https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/7xgpu-windows-modding-amd-video-driver-is-the-answer-712228 here is a link to the mod for fixing issue with more than 4 gpu on win7.

Is anyone here using any of the old Stilt's modified bios for the 7950s or the 280Xs?

Is it worth it?

If the answer is yes, will the mods work only for ETH or for other algos as well (for instance X11)?

Thx  Grin

The ROMS I'm using on my 7950s were originally modified by Stilt. He only amended the 1251MHz~1375MHz and 1376MHz~1500MHz strap I think. But it definitely helped my scrypt mining performance. I copied the memory timings from 1376~1500 to 1501~1625 and 1626~1750 because it allows me to overclock over 1500 on the RAM without losing performance.

For my 7970 I couldn't find his version of the ROM anywhere, so I did it myself. The stock ROM was painfully slow for mining, it was actually slower than my 7950s! After tweaking it I got another 2mh/s. So yes, it is definitely worth it.

The timings were originally for scrypt performance, but it will also help any other memory bandwidth/memory latency bound algo.

Mileage can vary. As someone said above, it made no difference for them. I think it helps the cards the most that weren't setup well by the manufacturer. Some get it right! Stilt timing tweaks made no difference on my two 290x.

Do you mind sharing the bios for the 7970  Cheesy?

It's for an MSI Lightning. It would actually be better for you to provide me with your BIOS. Or better still, go here https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/ and tell me which card EXACTLY is yours. Then I can download that and modify it.

Do you have dual BIOS on your card?

So i tried moving some other machines over to dual mining and having alot of problems with the 3.2 version

several machines will just reboot them selves while mining the dual alogos, no error message nothing.  I wiped one machine with 6 290x cards back to stock windows 10 default drivers 15.300  ( always gets installed no matter what i do, even if i turn off network and mnually install 15.12 crimson when i check the device i see 15.300 /shurg  one machine with that same driver works fine in dual mode)

tried default intensity 30 and higer same deal machines just randomly die after about 10 mins

any ideas ?

Don't use win 10... problem solved Tongue

Great answer......  Undecided

Win 10 is rock solid over here, fastest os regarding mining i ever used. No shit with installing gpu drivers when having more than 5 GPU's. It just works.

Try 3.0 Marvell1,

Works perfectly over here, had some small issues with 3.2 as well.

Also add -ethi 4 to your bash, could solve your problems too..

thats for the tip i will try -eth 4 first

youre right about win 10 , up to 8 GPUs even and more with no issues unlike 8, and 7

will lowering eth mining intensity lower my hash rate ?

Yup, 7 gives issue with 5+ cards. There's a 6gpu mod flowing around, that works but it's not going to give you a speed increase. Well it didn't over here...
