I too look forward to the s-5.  I want to mod it with the 7 inch silverstone fan and see how quiet it does at 1100 gh then 1000 gh

It would be great if Bitmain did an about face with their S5.  After bungling the S2, S3, and S4 rollouts, however, I would expect the same for the S5.

I haven't had any problem running the sp20 in my basement at home alongside my antminers. It is significantly louder than my antminer s1's and s3's, don't know how the noise compares to the s5 yet, but will soon. My only complaint about the sp20 isn't the noise because you can just run it in the garage or the basement and probably won't be able to hear it. (I would not run the sp20 in the living room it's too loud for that, but I would consider running an antminer in the living room). My only complaint about the sp20 is that mine can't do the stated 1.7th with it, only runs at 80% fan speed comfortably at ~1.4th and 1.6th with fans at a 100%. So I've just been running my sp20 1.4th. I think it's a really excellent unit just wish the terrahash was more conservatively represented.

yeah, you can run it at ~1360-65GH with fan 30 (as long as your ambient temperature is at or below 30C=86F) and ~800W at the wall, which gives much better value.

yeah I found 1330, 1350 ,1370  miner to miner   and it is good.  = .55 watts

1400  or 1425 and it starts sucking power harder. = .59 watts

I can run 1 sp20 and 1 s-3 on each evga 1300g2       at 1325 and at 450 get very good power rates.

I too look forward to the s-5.  I want to mod it with the 7 inch silverstone fan and see how quiet it does at 1100 gh then 1000 gh

As much as I like the sp20 it would be too noisy in his office.

The noise doesn't have to be an issue. See my thread: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.9931911

Besides the way I see it home miner choice will be s-5 and or sp20 very soon.

That's what I'm banking on.  I'll have both in here next week to decide which I like better. I've got a 220v 30a circuit just waiting for them.

that is the way to go.

I have tons of sp20's  but I flex and will switch out on a dime to the s-5 if it is tons better.

My guess is in my home I will have 7 -10 sp20s and 2 or 3 s-5's and run the for the next 3 months.

I am also thinking sp20 or s5.

after reviewing the sp20 (thxs spoon).  I and a partner made a 30 sp20 purchase.  I currently have the sp20 running at 1187gh on 625watts. But the ability to run at 1640gh is a nice to have if the diff starts growing fast.

I just purchased a S5 to evaluate.

I have about 20 S2's I need to replace.  It will be the sp20 or the S5 depending on the comparison.

The SP20 has been very well tested and put through the ringer.  It is a quality miner.   I know the SP team earned some loyalty from me.  Their customer service was top notch.

I won't bash the other company again just say doing a certain water cooled miner has me not to anxious to order from the other company, I want to stick with SP products.  I never thought I would be told a pump that was dry tested by the seller dying was my fault, and it was my fault a wiring harness had crossed wires and started fires..... for this quality became a serious factor in my future purchases.  And SP gear is quality.

I won't speak against s-2 s-4 or c-1.  I never owned them.

I will speak for the s-1 and s-3 > I had lots of them. 30 good 1 bad.  The controller was doa. I got an rma for it.

I still have 2x s-3's running non stop 24/7/365  since Late July.  0 issues they just run.
They are in a low power place  my friend's office power cost is 3 cents a kwatt.
I did clock them at freq 212 so I get 425+425 gh = 850gh

As much as I like the sp20 it would be too noisy in his office.

I may replace the pair of s-3s with a s-5.
hash would go up from 850 to 1100
power would drop from 650 to 600

I really agree on your 1700 gh comment.

Although I have 8 of these and 2  more on order I do agree they are not a 1700gh miner +- (10%)

They are 1625gh on the high side and they use a lot of power to get there.
They are amazing on the 1100gh or less clocks.

They  beat  just about every home miner there is for watts per gh if you downclock.

I would have sold them at 1500gh with a small overclock possible

The RockerBox chip is designed as a 200 GH/s chip, and there are 8 in the SP20, so it really is a 1600 GH/s miner.

yeah every one I have got above 1600 using the evga 1300 g2 psu

and having the fan at 80 but I am in a costly power area and getting the gear down to
1100gh or even 1000gh lowers watts per gh under .5 watts. also allows lower fan speeds.
My power is 13 cents until may 31st  then 16 cents.
Since I can manage the noise and take advantage of the heat in the winter my electrical bill reduces from 13 cents a kwatt to 10 cents a kwatt as the heat gain is worth 3 cents a kwatt.

So the .46 or .47 watts per gh is really the single most important feature for me in my setup. at my net of10 cents a kwatt until may these miners work better then any other on the market.

I get other miners wanted 1700 or 1750 gh.
I even get wanting to do 1600 and a fast fan setting. Spondoolies should have listed 1500 with 1600 upclocked. Would have been an easier point to defend.

Besides the way I see it home miner choice will be s-5 and or sp20 very soon.

This glorious SP20 should not be advertised as an at home miner due to the noise. Multiple reviews have stated that this is more like a 1.5 thash machine not a 1.7 under normal operating conditions yet it continues to be advertised at that rate.

You should be more honest with your hashrate and efficiency numbers. Do your calculations at 1500 and post the actual watts\ghash for that.

I edited the rest out above the ...

I bolded what I disagree with.

The noise can work in a home but it is noisy. You need a big enough home to have a space for it.
