I will go for coinmarketcap for sure,  it's got more good navigation and interface to use,  although both has some coins and exchanges with fake volume,  I believe that with CZ Binance acquiring coinmarketcap there will be a great improvement,  gone are those days when listing on coinmarketcap will create a pump for the specific coin that wanna listed on it, if you are looking for coins are not too popular,  perhaps new coins with low volume,  coingecko is where to go
Coingecko doesn't have the stupid rules for listing the new altcoins and the volume requirement is a big NO for the new projects. There is an alternative called Coingecko and project teams will prefer to get listed on the Coingecko without paying CMC.

CMC has been sued several times,AFAIK. The scammers use their advertising pages for promoting their scam projects and the wash traded altcoins is the good source for attracting the thirsty traders.
You're correct, coingecko is so much easier requirement for listing, but in the different side coinmarketcap asked a lot of things those are difficulties for a new project. CMC making money by advertisement crap projects cmc users know that. If CZ collaborated in CMC, coming days will change many things first of all transparency.

I use both coinmarketcap and coingecko. But I always prefer to use coinmarketcap. There are many loopholes in both. The problem is not exactly their. Exchanges and coins use to pump teir volume mainly the small and medium exchanges. And site like coinmarketcap give you the information through api. They don't have fault. Their is a lots of coins and exchanges nso it's hard to take care of all. But I would suggest you when you do your research check both. And even more. Don't trust single resources. That's it.

For example, I heard lot that P2PB2B is one of the bullshit exchanges because it has fake volume, but why on coinmarketcap can in the top 3?
Whereas on Coingecko P2PB2B is ranked 114, Does coingecko know if it's bullshit exchange? so it's not in the top 3 like in coin marketcap

So which one do you trust more?

Since 2017 coinmarketcap til now was remain a good platform to check or to know the latest about the token in cryptocurrencies business.
And it was already proven and tested too to the majority of the community in bitcoin or crypto industry. So, it is a good guidelines of the token are legit or not in crypto.

I'm using both but I seldom check the ranking of the exchanges, I'm more on checking the coins where it is listed, volume and price, I use both for comparison, but Coingecko seems to have an edge for me because I can easily find new coins that I'm following one of this is IDENA it's not listed yet on Coinmarketcap but it is listed already in Coingecko, they are very active in listing new coins.
I could agree this could be a quirk for them but CMC tops in term of popular coins, it's like coingecko become the second option when it comes to finding coin and CMC comes first. What I'm worried is what gonna happen after CMC acquisitioned by binance although the CEO will be the same person but something could change based on binance's interest.

CMC seems more reputable and respectable than Coingecko. There are occasionally glitches on CoinMarketCap but ultimately, it provides much more detailed information and tokenomics for tokens/coins than other competitors out there. It is one of the reasons why most projects prefer a CMC listing than other price monitoring and tracking platforms. As often evident, a CMC listing is usually accompanied by a price action of the listed asset. This can't be said of other platform listings for same assets. With the acquisition of CMC by Binance, it is most certainly going to solidify its grip on the number one position.

Here's another handy service - Dropstab...
Its convenience is that in addition to viewing statistics you can also add your portfolio, and track changes in your balance!
Coinmarketcap and Coingecko do not provide this feature... Wink

Coingecko has their own way of ranking than coinmarketcap does. Coinmarketcap ranks based on what's happening. For instance a token is pumped by 1000% and volume increases, its automatically ranked in coinmarketcap but Coingecko will take other measure to determine if this is really the value of the coin or its just a pump. Their algorithm differs so to say.

could it be possible that CMC is not doing the right thing and Coingecko is doing the right. to me CMC is worth trusted to the other.

Recently I moved and used coingecko because they listed more accurately coinmarketcap. They do a lot more accurate volume statistics and don't support scam exchanges, I recommend everyone to use coingecko because it's a lot more accurate and we won't be fooled by fake volume exchanges.

I have never liked the Coingecko website. They have a lot of information, but their webpage is not very userfriendly like the Coinmarketcap webpage. Also, I don't like the positioning of their advertisements, as with CMC the advertisements are much smaller and discrete. But to their credit, Coingecko covers a larger number of cryptocurrencies when compared to Coinmarketcap. And this includes a number of obsolete and dormant coins.
that is why dominant people use coinmarketcap compared to Coingecko. it's just that, I also sometimes use it because I think the volume is quite real. it can be seen when vindax and p2pb2b manipulate their volumes. in coin marketcap, they are in the top position, whereas in coingecko, the volume is not as much as in coinmarketcap.

When I first started to know cryptocurrencies, I was introduced to the CMC site by my friends to keep track of all the digital currencies available on this market. This is a site that summarizes the prices of various cryptocurrencies and exchanges that appeared the earliest and have a huge number of daily visitors to the site. And which cryptocurrencies listed on CMC will increase the credibility of its customers. I seldom use the Coingecko website so I can't evaluate which one is better. But for me, I still prefer to use CMC because it is very familiar to me.

I can relate to you, I like Coinmarketcap because it's very simple and though the have less information compared to Coingecko, but what they give are all vital information, and that's the reason I am sticking with them despite some people are saying Coingecko is a better site for crypto tracking.

I used Coingecko when I try to track some coins delisted in CMC and some coins that are still not listed in exchange or in CMC.

Actually I don't want Coinmarketcap to delist the coins. They are not an exchange, and therefore they don't have the moral right to remove a coin from their listing. If the coin or token is no longer traded in any of the exchanges, then they can flag it saying that it is either dormant or dead. But removing the entry is wrong. If we want some unbiased information about these coins, where we'll go?

For me Coingecko is more suitable than cmc because it provides genuine and up to date information about cryptocurrencies and exchanges that's why we can see mostly crypto community prefers coingecko anyways after the involvement of binance it will be interesting to see the progress and improvements of cmc which is necessary for this site.

I use both websites to search for altcoin information. coinmarketcap sometimes does not list new altcoins but Coingecko did the job. But honestly I prefer the coinmarketcap interface and they have more features for me to refer to.
I agree. I prefer to used coinmarketcap compared to coingecko and I think it's more reliable to used rather than any coin price information. It will be better since Binance already acquired CMC. I only used other crypto sites if some coins are not in the list of CMC. We'll see a lot of improvement since Binance already own it. I'm sure a lot of users will stick to CMC since it's more accurate.

I know there are mistakes and errors and sometime it is due to lagging API data that can make the website display wrong stats, i have also seen coingecko and i do seldomly visit it especially if i do not find any coin at cmc. But i prefer cmc more not only because i am using it from start but ut is definitely bigger and more reputed platform with largest userbase.
Well, bigger doesn't mean they are reliable it's just most of people are more used to this platform rather than the other meanwhile their data is probably linked to the same source. In my opinon both are the same anyway it doesn't matter which one to use but don't expect them to not do something with the data.

Coinmarketcap is one of the biggest industry scam enablers, they allowed so many scams to advertise on their platform while in some cases they knew it but chose to ignore. I personally called them out a few times before and they always chose to ignore.

Binance bought them recently which makes things even worse now as Coinmarketcap will be controlled and managed by Binance and please dont believe the bullshit claims of complete seperation between the companies as its not possible and wont happen.

To me coin gecko looks pretty cool everyone has same information but I use this for my convenience, CMC is listing most of the scammed project these days and slowly losing its reputation in the market which I never expected also they were in talks with binance team as well. Nevertheless this one looks good for me and I am enjoying it.

We must admit that CMC has long been the basis for many people to determine the movement of tokens, but I agree with your opinion that Gecko is better. structuring and ease in giving a full report about the movement of tokens feels better. Price calculation shows there are differences where CMC is higher than Gecko.
Moreover, CMC has a lot of bad news because it often provides reports that benefit several tokens.

Coingecko is really better, they have a tool to verify the volume of exchange and works very well, they check all the data to avoid fake volume and information, this is the reason that Coingecko is the best.

I agree and I have it installed on my phone to check the price from time to time I trust Coingecko more than Coinmarketcap now, they are up t date and some of the coins are listed there even if they are new coins in the market like Idena, they even had a coin or token listed even though there is no market yet like https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/the-geoma-dao#markets

The COingecko app is really great too, I found the link so people can check why I think that coingecko have more accurate info about cryptocurrency and markets: https://blog.coingecko.com/trust-score-2/
