i just upgrade my last desktop computer cpu, all my computers have now an fx8300 doing 370 to 400h  definitely worth the upgrade, cpu will be paid back in less than a year, probably less than 6 month (if sell on a pump), unless something bad happen with monero, and if you don't autoexchange and keep the monero's for a couple of month/year it s definitely a good profitability

i tried cpu mining, it is a waste of time for the potential damage it can do to your system

I think it is not good time for mining. Diff increase, Hashrate decrease, coin loss its price, no profitalbe. Sad

IMO mining monero using XMR most profitable at this time
bu its always wasted your time when you want to mine with cpu

FWIW I have killed 13 laptops with CPU mining.

They simply overheat when being powered on and working hard for a few min now.

half of them simply don't power on anymore.

Then again;  I had them in a pile on a countertop;  no real consideration for ventilation.

Its not worth laptop mining in the end;  the hardware cost over what you get out of it... is not close to being anywhere near a "ROI"..

If you have an old laptop; and there is a cpuminer that works with your architecture;  and you want it to sit there and make massive amounts of heat for a significantly reduced typical hashrate output;  go for it.  Most laptops consume ~60w or less if they have a mobile variant of the cpu used...

But for the most part;  you are fighting for less than a penny a day; at the cost of probably $0.30/day...

all the cpu coin finally will have GPU mining , so i think cpu is useless ,  I even can not find a coin that

only cpu , maybe some coin can only use cpu mining at begin

Magi coin is CPU only since 2014 and is actually less profitable to mine with a GPU than CPU. So everyone is CPU mining Grin

Hi,

ist there a coin profitable to mine with cpu?

Thanks

That would mostly depend on your electricity price. It eats up 50 to 80% of the income. I sometimes think that all this business has been invented by them  Roll Eyes

It's probably not worth mining on a laptop unless you have a new model i7 cpu and only run cpu-friendly algorithms like cryptonight or the coins I mentioned above. I do it just for fun even though I'm operating at a loss but I wouldn't run all cores at 100% for fear of overheating. Just be sure to monitor your temps and back off one of the cores if they're too high.

I used my laptop Sony Vaio E Core i5, is it ok for mining by CPU? Max Hashing Power is 40h/s Sad
what coin are you mining with your laptop? it would be nice to start mining I think is very exciting, but it cost lot electricity

Thanks. Do you have experience mining this coin? Using i5 for example how much coins I can get?

I have an old i5 Ivy Bridge (2013) and was able to get between 0.75-1 XMG a day. If you have a newer model i5 and a desktop you should be able to get better returns. There is no coin that I can mine profitably with my computer so I just run BOINC for gridcoins at a loss in the name of science.

Edit: Meant Ivy Bridge, not Sandy Bridge.

I've heard some people say that laptop mining is fine.

But I wonder how quickly your battery will need to be recharged in that case.

You could try the Magi (XMG) coin. It has a unique algorithm (cpu only, forever) that is specifically designed to be mineable on an average cpu. Block rewards decrease as overall hashpower increases which discourages big miners. It has a pretty stable price at around the 3500 sat range. If you have a decent computer gridcoin may also be profitable.

What's the point of using the laptop for CPU mining with the possible profit below 50 cents per day and the constant overheating of all the components? Mining won't necessary destroy the laptop however undoubtedly it will reduce it's lifespan. Even such a simple thing as a laptop's fan is not designed to last long in 24/7 mode. I had to replace a bunch of those when I was frequently using my laptops for intense calculations.

NEVER use a laptop to mine cryptos, use it only if you you want to see what Hashing Power you get with yours CPU , but thats it.

Why do you say so? I mean I understand it's not very efficient but "NEVER"?
Can you destroy your laptop with that?
