But I also agree with that, I have no doubt that certain attributes/characteristics can be more important in a certain type of game/gambling/bet, and others, not so much.
An analogy that I can share, is with some sports, for example, if an athlete is very tall, possibly he can be a good basketball player, but if that same person wants to practice artistic gymnastics, he may have several obstacles in this sport because of his height.
I know that what I said is not something extremely assertive, but I believe it was something that better clarified what I wanted to say.

Analogies do not need to be perfect, as long as they get the point across that is more than enough to make the analogy worthwhile to make and to read, for example in a game like poker being able to read your opponent is key, after all even if you do not know exactly what your opponent has if you see they are very confident on the cards they have then you may guess they have something good, and if your cards are not that good then you could fold and save yourself a lot of money, and yet a skill like this is useless when playing slots.

That's true. Being a responsible gambler requires a strong mentality and the ability to still think of things properly even when at loss.

The fact that these gamblers are still on themselves even during a big loss, that I can be considered a good gambler.

Hard to become one of that but it's not something impossible to achieved if we are really serious on becoming a responsible gambler.

At the end of the day the only thing that matters is math, you might have the best mentality and psychology in the world, but if you're betting something that gives advantage to the house, then in the long term you will lose all your money.

That's just how things are. Casinos will try to make it look like you have a chance at winning, but they know very well that in the long term they always win, because they made the rules, they create the odds in their favor.

Also they try to keep you playing as much as possible, so that you leave with your pockets empty.

Like the OP mentioned, "a good gambler never chases profit." It makes me wonder if a good gambler never chases profit at all or if they chase it but don't become too concerned about the profit. It is true that gambling is for fun and excitement, but if the profit were not there, a lot of people would not gamble. So I think a good gambler can chase profit but will not feel too concerned about it because if they don't chase profit, they would only gamble to lose, or even when they are losing, they just keep gambling for the fun.

It's not about making oneself so greedy, but I think that on some occasions, emotion plays some unfortunate roles, so having self-control should be an early step to take, as the OP also stated.

@oadharber, OP has talked about self-control, so if a gambler is self-disciplined and has self-control, they won't do what you stated as 1 and 2.

The formula OP shared is very valid and that is bookish thing - which remains in book most of the time - in real life there is no good gamblor - all of them would chase money and that is it.

Thats quite the interesting list you made there, OP. But unfortunately I would have to argue with you on the grounds that everyone is only human and will make newbie mistakes in gambling. The idea of a "good gambler" does not really exist. Although I would agree that if people were to follow your points, it would lead them to lose less money. But whether because of an emotional outburst, getting too greedy, believing in superstitious luck or some other reason, at some point in time, even the most experienced gambler will make a rash decision which will definitely lead to a great loss of money.

A gambler can do all this that you said and still lose his bet, personally I just think a gambler just have to be extremely lucky to become a good gambler. You can only be good when you win as a constant losers that lose any bet that he place can't be called a good gambler. There are things that you can do to prepare yourself for opportunity so when they come you can take it and win.

Some of those things are like having money available for you to bet so you don't start begging for money when the time comes. Having good money management skills is very underated as people don't realize how important money management is until they don't have any more.

Assuming that gambling exists for fun (which is true for most decent gamblers), then your list of qualities can be completely inverted. It doesn't matter whether a person is focused or not and whether he makes the "correct" bets - the main thing is that he enjoys it (and loses an adequate amount of money, of course).

The most important thing is gambling is money management. If you know how much you will invest in each game, how much profit you will be satisfied with and how many loss you can bear, all these things are a must if you want to be in profit in gambling.

If someone always want to win big and as in your example, do not consider 50$ or any amount to be considerable, then i am afraid such gamblers are those who lose in the long term. They may be lucky in short term but eventually they will fall for the greed and lose everything in gambling.
