We may not understand it or know the reason but some gamblers waste money on entertainment regardless of the result. Maybe they are the people who don't even know where to spend their money. Yes, they also chase for profit and that's how they feel entertained. I agree that a good gambler knows how to chase profit responsibly and wisely. There are gamblers who chase their losses the wrong way which usually take them on the wrong track. 

Not really sure if I have commented this topic before, but I'll take the 1st criteria to comment:


If you think that good gambler never chase profit, means that all gamblers in this world is not good gamblers.
All gamblers are chasing profit, this is why it is called by gambling where gamblers risk their money for more money.
It is bullshit if gamblers are gambling just for fun and entertainment only, if they just want to catch the fun, they should not gamble with real money as they can use demo mode.
I would prefer to say that good gambler is not about what they chase, but more about how the chase it.

depend maybe if what king of gambling we are talking here,  if this is a Luck base then maybe talking it as profitable  isn't that good Idea as we knew that the bank/house always win against gamblers.
but if this is about sports betting in which one of the safest gambling area? then yeah the criteria must be if it is profitable or not.

Profit might be the first reason why people gamble, but a good gambler never attached to the profit, the most important thing in gambling is excitement and fun experience, having profit is just the bonus

The new gambler is too eager to win a lot of money but they do not learn about self-control and it will cost him more and more if he does not want to do it,
This would become an even bigger problem because the longer he could not control himself, the more he could develop a gambling addiction.
Every gambler must own self-control to avoid gambling losses and know when to stop.
There is much more that one needs to learn to become a good gambler but only a few become such gamblers.

If you do have this then you wont really be making yourself get wrecked with  gambling or simply you could avoid potential problems and headaches which would be caused by
being impulsive towards gambling activity.

Dont make yourself that getting addicted and ends up on spending tons of money just because you do believe in mind that gambling could make you rich.
Yes, its possible but only a few could able to do that or to those luck ones.

The qualities mentioned here are definitely the qualities of a good gambler should possess. But the sad thing is that a gambler cannot always possess such qualities in himself. As a result they have to face losses. If the new gamblers understand these things well and gamble after gaining knowledge, they can be relatively more successful. A few days ago, when there was no research on gambling but now due to the progress of this industry, various types of research have been started on it, so if anyone want, he will get a good idea of how a gambler can control himself.

I guess it depends on how you define "good".

A good gambler for a casino is someone that puts all his life savings in the casino as fast as possible.

A good gambler for a person looking to earn money is someone who wins big once and stops gambling forever after that.

A good gambler for someone that wants to be entertained in the casino is someone that doesn't spend more than his budget every time and he always have fun while doing so.

Etc.

main criteria is probably: is the gambling profitable on the long run and is he/she avoiding ruin?

Yeah it's hard to get "rich" in doing gambling but accumulating profit is very possible. There are countless of people that got actually rich through gambling but given that majority of gamblers doesn't rich that stage of their gambling career. Most of them stop due to different reasons such as being bankrupt, quit, restricted etc.

A lot of people wonder what is the criteria of a good gambler, here are some of my thought about good gambler

a good gambler never chase profit

a good gambler able to control himself / herself
Self controlling is very important in gambling, without a clear mind there will be a lot of mistakes in betting and even causing reckless betting and losing all of the money in split second

a good gambler know when to stop
Setting a limit is very important in gambling, setting a lost limit will prevent you to over spend your money and setting a win limit is  also important because in the long run the house got a bigger chance to win due to the house edge

a good gambler never cause any problem to the surrounding
A good gambler know that the chances of losing money in gambling is huge, so a gambler should never used daily needs money or borrowing money to gamble, and a gambler should never think of robbery or stealing to gamble

a good gambler can accept lost
When losing a good gambler won't blame the surrounding, cursing or accusing the  casino as fraud places, losing is the half part of gambling, if you can't accept lost then dont start to gamble

a good gambler should able to manage the time
A good gambler know how to split the time for family, for friends and for gambling, a good gambler never neglected family or friend just because of gambling

We must encourage people to become a good gambler, so people won't always have a bad judgement about gambler

Yep. You can gamble every day, but you must have a time limit to gamble. It is important to avoid gambling excessively. Sure, we all know that overplay or overgambling can cause many problems in gambling activity. It is not only about addiction, but it is also about the money to spend on gambling. So, that's why we need to have a time limit and funds limit to use. If it reaches the limit, kindly stop gambling whatever we get (whether win or lose).

It is a very rare case that someone to be rich through gambling.
Dreaming to be rich in gambling only causes us to chase winning. And in most cases, chasing winning to end up with a huge loss.

And one of those factor is your ability to understand that game you are trying to gamble on, because that's the number criteria anyone who claims to be a good gambler must have, because only with that can he be able to manage his time, control himself, accept his lost, know when to stop, play for fun while not chasing for profit, and never cause any problem to his surrounding while playing responsibly with the amount of money he can only afford to lose at every moment in time.
