Coming soon - Italian Furniture

It does not make sense to import something as heavy as furniture from something as far as Italia, unless it is seriously awesome.

The last time a major new set of house necessities/luxuries was introduced, is already 17 years ago (Ming China). The Italian Furniture is similar in the way that:
- in total ~20 different items, each fungible (there are up to 800 instances of some Ming items)
- different items in the series fit together well
- convertible from IC in unlimited amounts but for limited time only, no future production of the same items
- is the icebreaker/flagship series of an item type that will have less prestigious alternatives in the future

Ming China is expected to have a small spoil every once in a while, because porcelain has a tendency to break or crack. The items there started from 1 IC to allow anyone to buy (and a typical service was 30 or more items). When they were convertible, IC price was 300-400 k.

Now we enjoy much lowered IC prices in the 80 k range. The furniture comes in two flavors, Most Elaborate and Very Elaborate, with some small pieces but mostly extravagant sets.

Rossiyans pillagers were successfully driven away by the forces in the North. We didn't get to loot back any weaponry, but instead we got decent horses as well as excellent payback in terms of silver.

The loot rolls approved by GM (or HM) have been obtained by successfully driving away the pillaging marauders from Rossiya. We rolled awfully for PIS loot, but got decent horses, and excellent silver loot. Below is an IRC summary of GM decisions, seeds and rolls:

Quote
21:39 < Syksy> Tavastia 117, Stonehaven 75, NF 141, HM east 140, Petrichor 25 (about BV weighting)
21:39 < SirJacket> typically higher better lately (about what the interpretation of d20 roll is)
21:40 < Syksy> SirJacket say 3 numbers, any numbers at all; these will be seeds for 1) weaponry, 2) horses, 3) civilian loot such as VOD, etc
21:42 < SirJacket> 12, 7331, 1337
# Notice below rolls are 0 to 19! so +1 to get d20
21:42 < Syksy> > set.seed(12); round(runif(3)*20,0)
21:42 < Syksy> [1]  1 16 19 # -> 2, 17, 20
# Regarding pistols
21:43 < Syksy> it appears our Pistol loot was AWFUL. on the other hand we got decent horse loot, and perfect civilian loot
21:46 < HM_The_King> their pistols were for show only, so none
# Regarding horses
21:59 < Syksy> 18 H2, 9 H3, 4 H4 and 2 H5?
21:59 < HM_The_King> approved
# Regarding silver
22:06 < Syksy> Based on above perfect roll (20 of d20) I propose the civilian loot to be the following: 20x SIT-7 (Silver Fork, CKS
               50), 20x SIT-8 (Silver Knife, CKS 60), and 10 of each SIT-9, SIT-10 and SIT-11 with CKS content of 60, 25, and 10
respectively, and 100x TS163 (12 CKS content); does the GM approve?
22:06 < HM_The_King> sure

The loot distribution of horses as well as reproducible R code for generating the distributions; Horses:

Code:
# R-code for loot division
BVweights <- c(117,75,141,140,25)
names(BVweights) <- c("Tavastia", "Stonehaven", "NF", "HM.East", "Petrichor")
# Horses
set.seed(7331)
horses <- do.call("rbind", lapply(c(18, 9, 4, 2), FUN=function(z){
c(rmultinom(n=1, size=z, prob=BVweights))
}))
rownames(horses) <- paste("H", 2:5, sep="")
colnames(horses) <- names(BVweights)
#> horses
#   Tavastia Stonehaven NF HM.East Petrichor
#H2        3          5  4       4         2
#H3        1          3  5       0         0
#H4        1          0  0       3         0
#H5        1          0  0       1         0

Silver:

Code:
# Silver
set.seed(1337)
silver <- do.call("rbind", lapply(c(20, 20, 10, 10, 10, 100), FUN=function(z){
c(rmultinom(n=1, size=z, prob=BVweights))
}))
rownames(silver) <- c(paste("SIT-", 7:11, sep=""), "TS163")
colnames(silver) <- names(BVweights)
#> silver
#       Tavastia Stonehaven NF HM.East Petrichor
#SIT-7         5          3  3       8         1
#SIT-8         4          2  9       5         0
#SIT-9         1          1  7       0         1
#SIT-10        4          0  5       1         0
#SIT-11        5          2  1       2         0
#TS163        28         16 20      33         3

Once GM/HM approves of the above, I will create the loot for the participants.

EDIT: Loot and RNG approved by GM and given to the participants; enjoy your horses and silver!

Coronation Details

Year: 1640
Venue: The Hall of Mirrors, Palace of Versailles, 7-C

Invited: All the Heads of the Noble Houses in the peerages of Crypto Kingdom and the counties claimed, all the Barons, Baronets and Knights in the peerage of Crypto Kingdom (heads of clans only), foreign dignitaries near and far, small quota for distinguished commoners.

R.S.V.P. to the thread or as ingame message directly to Char_id = 1 (Crown) no later than March 1640, and have everything ready by May 1640.

1. Carriage, Suits

Contact HH of North Face directly for best quality suits. It is possible to show up in plain blue, if you cannot afford better.

RWWC will soon list a few carriages for latecomers. The buying round has ended and the ones who purchased, will get theirs promptly as well.

2. Pistol shooting contest

Gemstones will be awarded for the best pistol shooters. The shooting is subdivided to 2 disciplines:
- Horseback on gallop with 2 pistols (likens to jousting but with dummy targets)
- Standing sharpshooter with 1 pistol.

In Horseback, the results are based on:
- quality of horse
- experience with horse & age (canceling out, so every age is at equal footing)
- SCI spend (training)
The contestant needs to have his own horse + 2 pistols.

In Sharpshooter, the results are based on:
- age (after about 50, the vision gives a slight disadvantage)
- SCI spend (training)

Results will give:
- prizes (gems)
- points towards Marksmanship skill
- titles, honors, military promotions, etc.

3. Coronet

Collect the materials and gems needed for your coronet asap! The feature for converting them to coronet will be opened to Ultima platform. Coronets are part of the Treasury of every noble house, but they can be liquidated (broken into constituent pieces and sold if needed) easily. The "risk" in making a coronet is limited to the IC cost of labor, typically just 20-100 IC!

A princely/ducal coronet is 8-16 royal gemstones (the ones in existence including pearl, excluding jade and amber), and 250-750 CKG.

A knightly coronet is 0-1 gemstones, pearls, possibly jade and amber, and 150-750 CKS.

Any other noble coronet is somewhere in between, based on rank and wealth.

As soon as the big stone auction is over (a few hours), King will show at least the plans of his Crown, to show the example.

4. Coronation present wishlist

Our Royal Majesty has everything, but due to the constraints of time and artistic talent (the latter of which our esteemed father had, the former even less) the treasuries of the Royal House are void of valuables. Jewelry and pieces of Art are most appreciated. It is already possible to give presents and in fact, due to so many things happening around the coronation itself, we appreciate giving them in connection with the R.S.V.P.

Syksy is available to convert from IC, contact him via IRC or ingame message.

5. Battle Aquilae can again be had!!!

COA-x items are Battle Aquilas, given to distinguished military units. The last time there was possibility to get them was in 1599. During coronation, owing to our excellent prowess in destroying the army of "the boy-king" Prince Boguslaw in Plath and Ironlock (he knows them with different names), everyone who fulfills the requirements will get a Battle Aquila dated 1640. The requirements are:

- Army unit in question must consist of at least 2 officers, 2 NCOs and 6 PTEs.
- It needs to have at least 4 weapons (CANN, MKT, PIS)
- It needs minimum 2*H2 or better
- The unit must have existed continuously since 1630, or if not, will have to exist until 1650 (for the total of 10 years anyway)
- Existing units that already have Aquilas, will be excluded unless they are large, in what case extra Aquilas may be given at my discretion
- 5 mil cost per eagle will be billed to cover the manufacturing cost of IC and CKG
- 1640 model Aquila gives +10 points to Command, and the bonus is permanent and unencumbered and stacks with all other bonuses.

6. Campaign Medal inaugurated

To placate the ones who support our glorious Army, Campaign Medal is started. It is a copper token that is awarded in 5 classes:

5 Commander Heroic Merit
4 Commander Special Merit
3 Commander Bravery
2 Special Merit
1 Bravery

The numbers are of course inverse (Commander Heroic Merit is the highest class), but they tell the number of tokens to be awarded. Each military campaign, backdated to the Campaign on the River in 1623, will yield medals directly to the commanders and also to soldiers (deposited to their owners). The tokens are all fungible, ensuring collectibility value in the future with a million military enthusiast players. Highest class conveys the attribute Heroic to the player character.

At present we have 1 ongoing campaign, lead by Sir Crichton with troops from the RCA, his own, and the Marquess of Grass. The objective (afaik) is to liberate Ironlock based on the locals' request.

Action in the north and FS siege without declaration of war, casualties nor even shots fired, do not count as campaigns.

Today at about 20 UTC: County conflict solver real-time IRC session.

It was initialised by deciding that the number of events with player preparations is 5, and that these are solved in the following order:

1. What to do with the Imperial Roman Envoy, who is in CryptoTown demanding surrender of Forte Spagnolo.

2. The 1 Rgmt of RCA is in Plath, subordinated to Sir Crichton. There are many ways how to use it.

3. How the situation in Forte Spagnolo resolves itself militarily.

4. What happens with the sandwich plan to crush the marauders in Tavastia on their way back to east (when pushed from the west).

5. If it can be ascertained that Louhi is dead, and any additional information and loot her goods of course.

1. There was no good idea to do anything with this, as giving a negative answer would have been pointless, and ceding Forte Spagnolo was not fitting for the glory of CK. So the envoy was just entertained in the town with no royal answer to the demands.

2. In the beginning, the strength of the forces in Plath was 300-400 BV from the RCA1, plus Crichton's forces of 100+ BV. Also Grass had sent their main contingent to join in, but that arrived too late to be part of the action yet.

Sir Crichton took the pleadings of the oppressed peasants seriously and invaded the territory claimed by the Boy-King (Prince Boguslaw, and in addition claimed by HH SirJacket, possibly others as well). Soon he met the Boy-King's army and entered into negotiations about the administration style in the county. The negotiating Army Major gave answer that peasants will be brutally treated if they do not submit. This was casus belli enough for Crichton to order the negotiators killed (resulting in one wounded in our side, who returned to service). Their army was estimated 120 BV with 4 cannons and no horses and was in battle array nearby. It was attacked and destroyed immediately with a general charge with superior mobility. Only a few enemies fled, 3 men and 4 cannons were captured, and own losses were 2*PTE.

3. Forte Spagnolo had been under siege for more than 6 months when the defenders sent a squad via the tunnels to the village. Their job was to find out about the local military situation and possible alternatives to continue. To their surprise, the siege had just been lifted with the forces just gone away without telling. Also the envoy had disappeared at about the same time when the events were later synchronised with the calendar. (Apparently the action was not backed by real willingness to do what it takes to conquer FS, but if we had given up the hope and the title, they would have accepted it with gladness.)

4. The intelligence about the geography was gathered in the beginning. Traversable paths between Tavastia and Petrichor are not too many, and the chased can not mingle with the civilians in an area that does not have any. The HofM Shock Cavalry was waiting in the borderlands, and many large forces mopped up the Tavastian region and pushed the troublemakers to the east. The plan worked perfectly and none that we know escaped. The horses, weapons and loot that they had gained from civilians, were confiscated. Most of the enemies were killed in ambush, but a few survived and set eastward on foot with adequate provisions to tell their friends about the experience.

5. In North Face, everyone is on their own. Or rather, on their own tribe. The region does not support large concentrations of people, and therefore the treasure/information hunt was also divided to many bands, lead by different leaders. In total, 10 groups from NF, Stonehaven, Tavastia and Petrichor participated. Whether they found out loot, is public in Changelog (a few artefact coins and at least one TOPX was gained), whether information - that remains to them alone, or if they want to tell anyone.

SCI was used as currency to boost the odds in die rolls.

A day in Crypto Kingdom

Today was a propitious day. The sun was shining through this chilly winter morning, as Erin travelled to Cryptotown. Her new residence in the freshly inaugurated borough 22 was almost finished, and quite an improvement over the two small houses she had owned in borough 4. Although she'd been travelling back and forth between Cryptotown and Pada Manor, she was glad to be leaving the unhealthy borough 4 for the bustling new side of the hill. Word was the renowned Magus Zenon had acquired one of the lots on the hillside.

Erin stopped by lot 22-N-D18, her soon-to-be city residence, by the name the town bureaucrats insisted on calling it. The building was almost fully finished. She knew its exterior looks wouldn't get much better, as she'd had to skimp on that due to her finances, but she'd make the interior special in a few years. She couldn't wait for it to be ready to move in, but for now, there was more work to be done.

Erin started towards the marketplace, the last of the year's vegetables in tow. Trade was brisk. A few people were there looking for bargains, hoping to go back with a month's supply of vegetables for cheap. Erin would often oblige. After all, time is money, and if nobody wants to buy at advertised prices... The sustained price decrease was unsettling though. Pada Manor was barely breaking even now, after the guard's salary was factored in, and this would have to change for the rental agreement to be more than a lossmaking deal. Maybe a good buyer would be found this morning.

Erin started moving vegetables from her cart. There wasn't that much this time, and she looked around. Most of the same faces were here, hawking their own. Vegetable growers, mostly. Meat producers would take their place next month. Erin went to chat a bit with the nearest vendors. The late King's death and the succession was dominating all conversations. Many people seemed to have been quite fond of the King, and most were confident that Archduke Zechariah would make a good king.

Back to her stall, Erin quickly sold all her vegetables. The price wasn't that good, but at least it all sold within the morning, and she could travel back to Pada Manor. She'd need much time to plan, as she'd used up all her remaining money to build this new residence, and was relying on futu crops and livestock to supply her with enough income to afford the several requirements neeed to attend the new king's coronation...

A Hectic Visit to the CryptoTown by the Earl of Petrichor

Morning dew was still freshly dripping off the grass and leafs as well as the ceilings of nearby houses when Lord Syksy Syyskuu arrived to the North Gate of the CryptoTown with his escort of 8 men; a couple armed men, few assistants and bookkeepers and a younger lad that worked as a personal assistant to Syksy. His sister Sini had stayed behind at Petrichor to coordinate the personnel there-in during Syksy's absence from the County. The horsemen and carriage emerged from the foggy gate, acknowledged the gatekeepers with their arrival and native citizenship, and headed towards the Barons' Row in Borough 1 where the Syyskuu family had held their main quarters ever since ennoblement to baronhood.

For almost two decades, Lord Syksy had spent only a small portion of his time at CryptoTown, while the remaining time went into developing and planning of Petrichor in person and conversing with his sons through messengers. Only on special occasions such as the Christmases or the 225th Jubilee, Syksy could afford to leave the meager post of Petrichor unattended. He had grown fond of the enchanted wild nature and stern spirited people near Petrichor, to the extent that he did not feel as fond of the city folk as he had used to - there was a strange, stingy coal-filled stench in the air, sewage, and one could almost imagine sulphur. Nevertheless, being a family man, his heart had yearned to see his dear wife, sons and daughters, and his elderly father - all of whom were top priority in his planned trip to CryptoTown. Still, he wished to see Petrichor developed to the point that he together with his family could live there permanently some day, albeit with connections to CryptoTown, but for the time being the family's focus would stay clearly in this readily established town.

But all was not well in CK, and quickly his family-members filled in the gaps in his knowledge, as the scarce messengers to Petrichor could only spread few news of the CryptoTown and the whole Kingdom. There were troubling rumors of the late King's son being a Swedish spy and all of James Daniels' assets being seized by the Crown. There were even rumors that the son had never even been of the King's true blood, but such rumor-mongering was held in rather tasteless regard, and in the dinner table Syksy desired to hear no more of this. He continued to spend most of the day in person conversing with his closest family one by one, and trying to share uplifting news of the countryside, as well as construct an overall view of what had happened during his absence. He was glad to see his family in good condition, although he himself felt ailing - something that he would not share openly during his visit, as he did not want to cause any unnecessary concern for his family-members. Although he had some pre-arranged business meetings, Lord Syksy wished to spend most of the day with his dearest - his wife Esther and their children, who were already adults themselves.

Perhaps the most troubling news was the death of the long-ruling King, who had just recently passed away. Syksy's son had been present at the King's last speech, and could provide Lord Syksy with an approximate transcript of TMA HM rpietila I's last speech. It was clear that the new to-be-coronated King Zechariah was the appointed heir to the throne, but it was still shaking to see the TMA King of CK pass away. It was like a dawning of an era. Luckily no usurpers had risen to oppose the rise of the new King, His Majesty Zechariah, rpietila II. However, in the back of his mind, Syksy did have a lingering fear - if a claimant of the throne, James Daniel, had indeed changed sides to Gustaf Adolf's (GA) court, he suspected that GA could use James Daniel as a fabricated claim to lever his influence in CK's affairs, possibly even seizing control. But the nobility that Lord Syksy met in the streets and courts of CryptoTown appeared loyal to the new King, which soothed Lord Syksy's mind.

On the bright side, CryptoTown was a buzzing town of inspiration and development like never before. New buildings were erected in an unprecedented pace, and Lord Syksy also engaged in this himself along with the Grizzly Bear Corporation. Lord Syksy was honored that the late King had offered him a Marquess' circle place near the Royal halls at Versailles; a gesture that reached above his stature as an Earl. Lord Syksy quickly laid down his preliminary plans for a Residence, a Villa and a Headquarters at CryptoTown, which he desired to be extended for the whole Syyskuu family. He secretly hoped that he could built these three key buildings in a suitable manner for a man of his stature before his death. He was also interested in hearing if there were any new rising families within the CryptoTown that the Syyskuu family could bond with, but sadly there were no eligible wives or husbands for his children available; in these matters he trusted the judgment and wisdom of his children, but quoted the Holy Scriptures in Proverbs 31:10 for his daughters, and Ephesians 5:25 for his sons, hoping that they would be wise in whatever courting they may face. Some new faces were present, even ones who had streets named after them, but they were yet to extend into larger families and were more of prosperous and daring individuals. Lord Syksy always considered blood-bond thicker than water, and wished that he could eventually find a trust-worthy family with similar ideals and dreams that some of the Syyskuu family could marry with.

Versailles had opened, along with Boroughs 11, 22 and 23, and new quarries and farms were available. Business was more hectic than ever, with new precious wines, rumors of highly elegant pieces of art and weaponry being made, and grandeur construction plans underway. The new King was as active as ever, which had also sparked a new bright wave of innovation over the whole CK; while the late King was held highly in respect, his long sickness and tiredness had projected to his subjects - almost as if they had been preparing for his passing through mourning and depression, and this had also been reflected in the businesses and town activities. Lord Syksy instructed his son Syksy II and his elder father of his desires in regards for family wealth management, but left the ultimate decisions to their hands, albeit requesting that in matters of great sums of money he'd be consulted through messengers beforing engaging in any deals that could affect a marked portion of the family's meager fortune.

Being a devout though simple man of faith, Lord Syksy paid his respects also to the late Bishop before departing from CryptoTown. He heard rumors of new teachings of faith, called Protestantism and Reformation, rising in the South and in the West. But he was no priest, and respected the (Catholic) Church, especially since they had just managed to strike a mutually beneficial deal in terms of BEER production between the Church and the Grizzly Bear Brewery, and dismissed these new disciplines with a shrug. Still, he found it troubling that the word 'heretic' was utilized in several conversations that concerned the Christian faith and the spread of these teachings, and he knew that this word could mean troubled times and possibly even bloodshed. But with a prayer he left the matter to the hands of the almighty God, and gave it no more thought.

On his way back to the gate, the gatekeeper warned him of rumors regarding a possible siege in Forte Spagnolo and its nearby provinces. Given the close proximity to Petrichor, Lord Syksy started fearing the worst - if the rumored Rossiyan nationalists had passed by Petrichor, they could've pillaged FS's smaller neighbor on the way. Syksy hastened his companions, and the small company of a carriage and horsemen began their journey back to Petrichor, with a weariness in Lord Syksy's mind of Petrichor's fate. He bought a few weapons of innovative design before the final departure - just in case the dangers in the North were accumulating.

A plan was devised to amass large forces to Tavastia (some of them, from several nobles, are en route to North Face but will participate in the action) and rout and push the invaders to the east. Then the HofM Shock Cavalry, the elite mounted unit of CK (145 BV in only 23 warriors, 3*MSG, 8*SGT, 15*PIS, 5*MKT, 13*H2, 10*H4) is awaiting for them in all the crossroads of paths. (SCI needed to get the information of geography). No matter how well the marauders know the places, and no matter how good their horses, they cannot match the firepower of the HofM Shock Cavalry, mounted on H4 horses. The enemy will be disarmed, loot captured and leaders interrogated and hanged.

When the Duke of North Face's troops reach the Stonehaven camp, the bulk of the garrison (71 BV, 100% mobility, 4 PIS) will move north with the Duke. The remainder (26 BV, 2 CANN, 4 MKT) will stay, along with the Knights Templar (67 BV) who had come for the short skirmishes with Sweden, and who had never actually gone back to Cryptotown since.

The detachment will then work with the NF and Tavastia troops to find the marauders and chase them back to the east and into HM's waiting trap.

Then, the troops will likely reinforce the Duke's expedition to Louhi's territory, or come back to Stonehaven, depending on how things transpire.

Time to start BuildCO's

It is very definitely the time to start BuildCO's now. Soon the building repair and lux update module will be released, and buildings will need a repair% and lux%, both higher than 25%, to eliminate the risk of collapse or vandalism. Many of our existing buildings do not meet the minimums. Both structural repair and addition of lux, are very BLD-intensive jobs (100% and 50% of costs is BLD, respectively). Very large amounts of BLD are needed even to match the minimum needs, and this cannot wait because there is a definite penalty (collapse/vandalism).

- This year's Labor quota of relevant personnel was sold out already.

- The Duty Paid IC Shop (new feature not even properly announced) has ASS-1 and MGR-1 convertible from IC at 100 IC. Sounds like a bit steep, but the promotion is coming next year so please consider. WOR-1 is 20 IC.

- The NPCC will be allocated some ASS-1 and MGR-1 for disposal to the market. This will, however, only happen after the promotion round, so it pays off to scour as many as possible before the promotion, if anyone is wishing to sell.

County usage for WP

County administration (Work Points in a county) goes towards PRE until it reaches 100 PRE. After this, the administration will be counted double:
- Both towards keeping the county in good standing and
- For quarrying stone or making BLD (both localised in the county, and can be used when the town is inaugurated). Formula is the same, except quarry formula assumes all cracked stone (the best stone type) with no topsoil. This bonus is available only to the first counties to reach this stage, it will be changed later.

If the administration is "missing or clearly insufficient" to handle the county affairs, this will cause additional problems there. Missing administration or enemy occupation in the county will also start to reduce the PRE accumulated.
