At first I didn't agree with having death penalty. But when you watch the news and see all those fucked up things people do without remorse, most likely you would want them dead too, especially if you're connected to the victims. The only problem is false accusations. Lets say they hang a killer because of manslaughter and after a week later they realized that he wasn't the real killer, well shit. You cant bring the life of that man back. as opposed to just jailing them.

I will say it depends, and I also would say that this is sort of a critical topic because it may touch one's personal, religious, social and life beliefs. Therefore, there is no correct answer, and it would only depend on what's principles. For myself, I would say that I agree, but depending on the what's being punished. Sad to say, but there are so many bad things that call for a stricter much harsher punishment which is done by repeat or habitual offenders. When someone's life is taken or permanently damaged, one should be punished equally because they can't bring back the life lost. Although I agree, it should be viewed very critically because it would also be a way to end one's life, which is equally important even that of a criminal's.

Death penalty doesnt fit modern society. Not to start with the horror stories of innocent people sentenced to death...
Also look at Rodrigo Duterte. Killing because of drugs..? Jesus.

Why do you say that death penalty doesn't fit the modern society?

If you want to hear someone else's opinion, I think it doesn't fit modern society because today many people understand that bad guys weren't born serial killers or whatever. It could be said that they have become bad guys because of that very society. And death penalty, besides being an outrage and disgrace to humanity on its own, is refusing to accept this responsibility.

Think about it - if you allow the death penalty in such brutish conditions as in our "rule of law" - it will be wetted right and left as they are now - on trumped-up charges, for bribes or simply because of personal dislike of the authorities!

No. Because it's a sin to God. Because God is the one who gave life to people so he is the only one who will take it.

i disagree in death penalty because every one deserves to live and giving a chances even you are the worst person in this world that God only can get that life. maybe life imprisonment is more than enough to pay his crime committed.

Killing people is a mortal sin. But for me, death penalty is the exception. Because of the heinous crime we are now suffering almost everyday. Those who kill innocent people should be punish by death penalty.

Why do you say that death penalty doesn't fit the modern society? What do you suggest as a replacement? I am fine with life without parole in a penal colony. But then you will say that such punishment is too draconian and doesn't fit with the modern society as well. I am NOT fine with your suggestion of keeping the criminals in a 5-star facility for a few years and then releasing them back to the society.

No. Many innocent people are affected by this penalty because they have no chance to speak their rights. As I know, the rate of INNOCENT people being killed is greater than the rate of CRIMINALS being killed by this penalty. We have human rights, but with this penalty, some people doesn't have the ability to show their evidence that they are not guilty.

If the crime was grave and if the person is convicted without a shadow of a doubt, I would definitely go for death penalty. There's no other way to set a good example for others that might commit the same crime.

I believe that people should be tried by the law and death penalty is too harsh. I believe that there are other deserving punishments for those people than death penalty.

Death is too easy a solution.
Those that have done such terrible things should be let alive to think and repent for the rest of their lives about what they've done.

Hardened criminals never repent. If they are let off, then in all probability they will be harassing the family members of the victims. That should never be allowed to happen. The criminal must be permanently removed from the society. This removal can be in the form of a death penalty, or he can be sent to some labor colony where he will remain for the rest of his life.

I'm not saying they should be free - but not killed. Death is an easy escape. To live incarcerated - and see how it is to have your life messed up.

Because of the alarming frequency and increasing cases and numbers of heinous, gruesome and senseless crimes of today,
I am obliged and compelled to agree with the death penalty. That is if proven that the said criminal is the real culprit behind
the crimes.

Death penalty should not be a thing. We have multiple examples of people imprisoned for nothing and the truth that come out some months or years later. If you kill someone and then you realise he's not guilty, how should you feel?
Also, we should not imprison people unless they committed a severe crime. When I see the amount of people imprisoned in the U.S. because of weed for instance, that just make me sick.
