I think devcoin foremost needs a proper functioning windows client. Its currenlty a toy for real geeks right now. That makes it a rather exclusive coin, but it should not stay that way.

Im on that I ported it over to 0.8.5 and now testing.. qt wallet will once my merged mine proxy finds some blocks and I can somehow test the reciever file.

The qt wallet is so much better than the wxwidgets and I understand the importance so Im trying to get it up sooner rather than later.

Thanks for taking the initiative! I wish I knew how to do these things, Sad. Sadly it's not my specialty.

Does this mean we're getting a better look for the client too? Smiley

more stable... and looks better with qt.. same as bitcoin 0.8.5 the old one used wxwidgets which wasnt that great. I will need testing help for different platforms though.

All my computers are running Windows 8. What platforms do you need help with?

..
I had asked the same thing. Apparently we're supposed to be adding categories to the bottom of articles (like [[Category:CATNAME

All of my articles are categorized, though.

http://devtome.com/doku.php?id=wiki:user:smeagol

Thanks for pointing that out, I found the bug in devtome that was causing it. It was looking for [[Category: in the text, rather than [[category: in the lower case text, so all the links that were in the format:
[[category:

were not counted. I'll rerun the script now, if it completes the run before the receiver file is made, the new run will be used, otherwise it'll be the old run. Categorization was only 5% of the earnings multiplier this round because it is experimental.

Bit of an early xmas present I was able to port over devcoin src over to bitcoin 0.8.5 with fixes (i0coin latest) and managed to statically link in libcurl so no need for the dll either(sucked doing that btw).. now I need to test and create the qt wallet! How does the test net work?
Can't help with test net, but nice one.

For general info here's a link to the Devtome.com setup page: http://devtome.com/doku.php?id=how_to_get_setup_earning_devcoins_by_writing and more general information on working for devcoins is via the devtome frontpage.

On languages, there have been previous discussions on this and for now the issues come down to people and time resources, and practically and fairly managing open-source content. If you use this link and scroll down the page to subsequent related posts it will give you bit more info as to why, and others' thoughts.

I have some articles and i would like to submit than.. How i make an account on Devtome? Do u guys have a section in Portuguese over there? Im bi-lingual and can help u guys if u need something.

You will have to submit an article sample so it can be evaluated. I'm actually not sure who is handling that at the moment, although since I am your article administrator I can go ahead and check it out if you want. Can you send me a PM?

Also, we are only dealing with English content; at this point we do not have anything for other languages and (as of the latest update) are not looking into it at this time.

Thanks!

I will send you a message Ranlo, thanks!

Not a problem, Smiley.

Hi guys, I found you (finally)! It was hard to get in contact with someone : NO email on the websites, noone answering on IRC, multiple threads on bitcointalk. PfuI!

So, here we go :

I'm a software engineer and crypto currency enthusiast. I love the idea behind DVC and I hold some.

I find that there is a lack of communication: the website is honestly indecent and the wiki of devtome is not intuitive. If you want to reach a larger audience and be adopted you need a much better communication.

I want to help. New design, new tools for developers. new website, new clearer and simpler communication.

For instance: I want to get DVC to write open source software.  It should be a two/three steps tutorial, instead you are forcing the developer in reading the whole intrigated 6 pages wiki homepage.

Who is coordinating this thing?  We should undisclose the potential of this currency!
Hi. Yes I agree, works in progress. The more people interested and involved, the greater the growth and impact.

The developer of devcoin is unthinkingbit (also his handle here). You've probably already read it but here's a link to earn Devcoins by developing which gives some details on contacts.

I think that because it's a concept designed to support work and open source development, progress can become splintered at times as people are working on different efforts as similarly open-source projects before meshing back together over time. I'd like to think that all constructive input is welcome though, and agree with your simplicity point.

+1 notabot and giftculturewriting

Thank you for excellent comment.

Actually I research quite many altcoins and bought others as well but not as much as I bought this one.
I bought it due to the ridiculously low price.
If you donate 1 DVC to someone, it is insane and you are making fun of this person because it is so cheap. To be something considered seriously it should cost minimum 0,001 BTC and it will eventually go there as people donating are driving the price there (they buy as many DEVs as it requires to drive price to this range).
I think it will easily go 100 times up and then it will rise 10 more times up and after this it will start having some people unloading and we might see a correction coming - but it may not come so never sell all your DEVs at one shoot. Believe me, it just hurts you afterwrds (or you want to ignore the coin).
Why to be bear while you can enjoy the bull-run!!!  Wink

It will not crash significancily.
Of course some people will slaughter their beasts but they are not able to get the Devs back anynore cheaper.
Devcoin bears will be left behind from this space-shuttle. The stable target is around 0,001-0,001 levels.
As you can see, there is still long way to go and the trip has just begun.
Dev-Coin overperforms BitCoin.
If we compare these two to precious metals, BitCoin is gold and DevCoin is silver (more plentiful and more aggressive growth poterntials).
BitCoin is glumpsy but this Dev-Coin-beast is sharp and it has only one way: UP!!!

I have been buying all the time this going slowly slowly. The more I buy the more expensive it gets (however the price level and market cap are both jokes currently - so much more there is potential).

Look into devcoin and you'll likely find there are much better coins for purely speculative purposes. In effect by stocking up on devcoin you're supporting a wide range of development projects and I'd guess everyone involved is grateful for that support.

Some speculation goes on in this thread but generally its aimed at the projects, people involved, fundamentals etc. Maybe a devcoin speculation thread is needed, not sure if there's one going though.

Yeah, I'm not really into speculating much (though others might be). I've just never traded in currencies or stocks even in more traditional venues before. Every now and then I just hear about things plummeting after a surge. Coming from a preference for tangible gift economy and bartering, sometimes I have little faith in imaginary numbers. Tongue But if these imaginary numbers will help me meet my material needs just for participating in free culture, I'm all about that.

Welcome to all the newcomers!

In response to one of the questions I saw regarding backing up your wallet, and I can only respond to Windows -  go to My Computer > C > Users > YourName > AppData > Roaming > Devcoin and copy the wallet.dat file to a USB stick, hard drive, CD, etc.

This is pretty basic, but ensure your wallet is encrypted, i.e. - go to Settings (on your wallet) and set a passphrase. It should be something long that you can remember but is not from written word or a song.

Yes devcoin is going ballistic. When I got into devcoin it was at about 0.00000250 and we are only at @0.00000093, so there is plenty of room to grow yet. But when devcoin was at 0.00000250 it wasn't popular, so potentially it's unknown where it will go. Devcoin was developed for 1 devcoin to be worth 1/1000 of a bitcoin, and it would be great to see it actually at that rate.

The attention devcoin is receiving is well validated - it's cryptocurrency merge mined with bitcoin, using no additional computational (mining) power, and is a cryptocurrency first in that one of the primary devcoin innovations is the use of receiver files to pay individuals for Open Source Project Bounties and Creative Commons Licensed literary works. You could say it is actually a self sustaining crypto ecosystem.

There is not enough donations to pay out. But how do I backup my wallet?

The faucet should work soon, I just donated 40900 DVC to the faucet Smiley

Faucet should have more than enough. There's shares allocated to it (8 shares per round IIRC). Just the last round alone that would have been 4 million coins, and the faucet since its inception has paid out less than 200k...

Not only 200k , 'cause I didn't calculate the dvcs pay out to bitcointalk id promotions, but the whole payout should be below 2 million...

I'll dig into the issue, maybe the dvcs moved to another account? I don't know if dvcs will automatically move between accounts in the same wallet, any one knows? I don't notice any unusal thing since my personal account and faucet account are in the same wallet, and I can't remember exactly how many dvcs I have.
