Although it would leave me out, many boards I have been on also limit what boards you can post in, but not in a "jail" type scenario as it was here.

For example,

reply-only, no new threads - newbie
post new threads - must be Jr. Member (except for buy/sell boards, reply-only)
anything transactional - must be Member (post in buy/sell boards)
Exclusive boards - must be above Member
etc.

Finally we won't be seeing "newbie jail" threads any more! I hope this is going to go well and not fall of it's face.

Could we also have restrictions on old accounts which haven't been used for a very long time and have suddenly started to post again? It could reduce the amount of spam and also restrict the act of selling/buying forum accounts.

Edit: It seems removing the newbie section has decreased a lot of spam and hasn't had any negative effects to the forum yet.

Just rename it into Beginners & Help or something similar, to get lost of the Newbie Prison impression.

Yes opening the newbie section for newbies to ask those questions would be a good idea imo.

Now people are encouraged to make more profiles. Just look at the currency thread. I think that 1 and the same person (newbie) has multiple accounts to promote MTC in a spamming and deceitful way.

hmmmmm.... not a fan of these changes. Bans should stay, you got caught doing something wrong like scamming, chances are your arent going to change, and we dont need people like that hurting this forum and BTC.

Plus the newbie section was a good place for all the crap. Who is really put out by the 4hour wait on posting else where??

We should go back.

I don't get this. All of the sudden, the reasons for having a newbie section are invalid? You can buy your way out of a ban? Very odd behavior.

Yes, the newbie section was a good thing.
I would hunt for easy questions with no reply and help the newbies.

This is an interesting change only time will tell if it works but I guess tentatively I am alright with the changes
Newbie hell feels so long ago but the remnants of that time in purgatory will now be a thing of the past  Cheesy
Geh now I feel old

I just hope the mining sections don't get flooded with newbies asking really simple questions and not bothering to do much intel into how to get started up, but that's the only real cost I see of the new system. The old system kind of force learned you to a certain level of proficiency before you could graduate to the normal levels. Filtering out the idiots and establishing a base level of knowledge in the system since you couldn't do much for four hours but read and learn.

That said I agree with bitpops suggestion as I see no harm in having newbies greeting one another and general questions being asked, that said absent the newbies section a patrol page to observe those type of posts from new accounts is useful for moderation, and acts as a semi-filter.

I think it should be unarchived but no restrictions like now. Simply to keep newbie questions from filling up general and let them meet each other.

I agree. The newbies section is good to avoid the same question being asked over and over again on other boards.
