somewhat related: Why do PMs from newbies not display in email notifications? I understand and appreciate the warning that this is not an established account, but what's the danger in showing the content?

Have these rules been changed since this thread was first created?  My status is not updating.

Don't worry. It takes a few minutes for your number of posts and status to update. If you post regularly, in a few weeks you'll be moving up the chain.

They are more or less the same, the only new addition I can think of is Copper Membership. This is your first post, what status were you expecting your account to have? Activity does not update immediately, as you can see mine is currently two below my post count. I would check out this thread, as it explains member ranks more thoroughly.

I like this idea but where is this section? I can't find it.
Nowadays, there's a discrimination among New users vs. Old member.
Why they need to judge a person rather than helping it?
It's a big question mark for me.
They also want the newbies to get banned just he/she did a mistake and calling them spammers even they don't? What kind of person they are?
Everyone of us always done a mistake and God always forgive us and give us chance to make all the things right.
I hope they also know how to act accordingly. Stop acting like they are the superior.

Any determined troll will just bypass or pay to get around restrictions so again all it does is punish the innocent who just want to post/contribute.

I think, for me, the irony of knowing NLC would have to have bought and used BTC to spam his doom graphs would go a long way to making up for any shortcomings in the measure...

*sigh*

One can dream...

I think if you have an account less than 14 you should only be able to post in the new user section. 14-30 you should be on probation. If you start shit posting then, you lose your account.

Can we just have a small fee to gain posting rights in speculation? It doesn't have to be much to be too much for NLC and anyone with similar "ambitions". We have a specific issue limited to a specific subforum that's mostly filled by traders or people otherwise invested in Bitcoin. I'd wager the amount of people who both can't justify making, say, a one dollar-equivalent payment to post and still have interesting things to say on the subject of price speculation is pretty low.

Making people pay a fee to post is not going to happen, and especially shouldn't happen just because of one user (or a handful or trolls). If the fee is small then trolls would just pay it and it stops everyone else who doesn't have aay bitcoins or doesn't want to pay it. I'm also on the fence about newbie jail being brought back but lean mostly towards that it doesn't really help that much. Any determined troll will just bypass or pay to get around restrictions so again all it does is punish the innocent who just want to post/contribute.

I feel like there is less support for that measure, but I like it. If we had to pay for posting we would not have someone making a dozen zombie accounts per day to cut/past some foolish assertion. It makes sense to me since speculation is all about putting your money where your mouth is.
I say +1 for paying to post in some sections. One could still launch a FUD campaign, but they would have to pay for it.

Eh? There is no newbie section anymore.

Looking at the state of some of the newbie/alt thread starters in recent times I really think it'd be a good idea to consider bringing newbie jail back. The place is becoming a farce littered with steaming thread style faeces. Something needs to happen.

Really miss the stained ignore buttons.
IMO, there was no reason to remove that feature. Wish it was brought back.

What does that button do exactly? Haven't been around in this forum when that feature was still implemented, I think. Is it totally different from the ignore button that we have right now?

It looked the same, but the background colour changed depending on how many people had that person on ignore. Started as white, then went through yellow through to orange. The darker it was, the greater the number of ignores (don't know what the numbers were)

So the forum was way cooler back then?  Roll Eyes I hope they return that kind of cool feature in the new forum software. Btw, when was the expected time for the new forum to be released? Been following the New Forum Software board but I can only see some few updates here and there.

I miss nubie jail. It's stupid to let one or two guys completely ruin a board by creating dozens of accounts then post utter nonsense again and again and again. Why do we allow this? Someone with an activity of 0 or 2 posting "Ponzi Crash confirmed!!!" is not here to inform. It's not productive to let new users post outside of the new users board.

I think if you have an account less than 14 you should only be able to post in the new user section. 14-30 you should be on probation. If you start shit posting then, you lose your account.

This would not apply to posts that are critical of bitcoin. We need people who are critical. It's the cut/paste bold statements with zero supporting evidence that need to go.

This is also what I'm seeing in the some boards: just the same recurring questions from newbies that had been answered for some thousand of times. Also, it is great to have a stickied thread of how to's on the Beginners and Help section so that there shouldn't be redundant threads for just a single topic.
