Leclerc deserved the victory but a safety car first and a Yellow flag later during his overtake attempt denied him the 1st position.

Let's hope these cars will improve at the same paste, it will be an awesome year, waiting for the Mercedes.
Saw the Tweets about it come out just as I posted that yesterday, yeah... And then the 2 yellows late on but investigations very quickly cleared anyone of wrongdoing.

But probably better than anything else, the guy didn't even complain a single bit -- absolutely racking up my opinion of him.

(I'm still crossing fingers for a surprise podium finish from AT but the way the first 2 races are going, think Ferrari will flex all the way). Australian magic?
Lol, I love the shade at Hamilton (hopefully I got it right) with complaining. Interestingly Hamilton had the audacity to say "I am doing the maximum I can do out there, I am not sure about the team" or something like that. All the fanbase hatred aside, Russell seems to be doing fine, he is constantly right behind those 4 drivers, and I believe that he will keep on racking points every week hoping that Ferrari and red bull keep on fighting and taking each other out time to time.

If there are enough retired races from both teams, George could find himself a fourth or even a third position this year, depending on the reliability of other teams of course. And this is considering how the teams are right now, if Mercedes gets better, then he definitely has a chance.

I really think Mercedes improving its turning the corner.
We dont see so many progress in Arabia because it was only one week between the first and the second race, so i dont know if the workers in United Kingdom send upgrades to the part of the team deployed.

I dont know if in Australia we can see some improvement for the same i think they keep collecting data. But for the next GP after Australia i see a big improvement, dont know if can be to win a race but surely to cut the gap.

Leclerc would have won the race without Albon's yellow flag. Without the yellow flag, Leclerc Verstappen would probably have passed Sainz on the perez. It came out in such a place that the yellow flag verstappen could easily pass in 3 rounds. But he was able to chase one lap because of the yellow flag. Verstappen and leclerc clash gives f1 a different pleasure. It will arguably be the most contentious of recent seasons.

The next races will be obviously more enjoyable than last season. This season is very intriguing and fun. I think the old and fun F1 is back.

Well, we could also say that Checo actually deserved the victory, getting safety car just after he changed tyres.
But "what could have happened" means nothing; if there wouldn't have been yellow flags at the end Charles may or may not have passed Max and Max may or may not have passed him again.
The only clear thing about that yellow flag was that it denied from us a bit more show.

The Saudi Arabia GP was the most competitive race I have watched in recent years. We watched a really great race for the lead. If the Abu Dhabi GP last season wasn't a critical race for the championship, I would say that this race was even better than that. Unless Mercedes engineers make a big surprise, we will be seeing the Leclerc - Verstappen rivalry very often this year.

Completely agreed.
There was already a little teasing about this one week ago, but this race was much better and I have high hopes that the season will continue at least as spectacular as until now.

^Hell yeah, Verstappen left it late but he did it. Not particularly happy because he won, just because he was my pick in the pool. LeClerc clearly disappointed but really gracious in saying today's street race was exactly how it should always be -- also had the fastest lap late on but wasn't enough to win.

Can't really recall my other picks but am afraid I will pay the price for thinking Ferrari wouldn't be as successful today. Lewie's had to settle for a single point...

The problem is created by the new cars.
These cars have less space between them and the road so with high kerbs if a jump comes, the cars will lose the vacuum and they will lose their grip.
Expecting a lot of that type of error during this season.

You're probably right and it's too dangerous only for the current generation of F1 cars, but that doesn't help much, at least not the drivers.

Also about the new route of the airflow, did anybody else notice that Ferrari seems to be using a rather flexible floor/airflow system, somewhat like the hovercrafts have (at a way different level/size, clearly, but still for keeping the air go where they want it to)?

I remember we had a "do not talk politics on this topic" argument here. Today we are talking about how there was literally a bombing near the track, literally just 7 miles away from the track, and the race will continue. I do not make any sense of this, I mean we are talking about bombing right near where the track was and the next thing that will be done would be keeping the drivers racing? How do we know there won't be a bombing during the race as well?

Anyway, I wouldn't want to turn this place to any politics, so all I will say is that Vettel already races with a horrible team this year, so its not like he is missing too much to begin with, it's fine for him to miss getting zero points anyway.

I guess that money talks and those people are tied to various contracts, since it's clearly a security concern there.
Also, as said, the track is more dangerous than usual for the current generation of cars.
And I agree, the Aston Martin cars seem to be again a failure this year.
Seb did make a great choice to stay at home and there are rumors it was not because of COVID, it was more a protest against how the things go in that country.

Yeah, engineering issues I guess is going to define this season. Just really glad it's turning out okay so far for the man, but makes me wonder now if the way they're redoing the cars has been through thorough enough testing.

Anyway, Perez first ever pole, makes me rethink also if my early picks will stand. Doesn't look good atm, but I'm going to count on him not being able to defend that over the course.

And that Mick crash - you understand that things is serious when they don't show replays of crash. His car break into half, but seems that Mick is OK.

That corner is far too dangerous, Mick is not the only one who had difficulties there. I fear that we may see a new red flag tomorrow in the race too because of that corner.
...I'm relieved that Mick is fine.

And Lewis not getting out of Q3... I don't think it needs more words for how oddly bad is that, especially as George will start 6th.
However, I'm very happy for Checo. I hope that he will finish tomorrow on the podium, although with those 2 Ferrari around him it won't be easy.

Pole for Sergio Perez is something what was very difficult to predict. After all, it was first career pole for him. Leclerc did best what he can do - he was just 0.025 seconds behind, what is nothing.
Hamilton not getting out of Q1 is something what didn't happened for long. But I don't think that it shows something - shit happens for everyone sometimes
And that Mick crash - you understand that things is serious when they don't show replays of crash. His car break into half, but seems that Mick is OK.

This race weekend is full of unforeseen happenings but sadly most of them are quite negative. First the attack on the oil tanks pretty close to the track which almost lead to a cancelling of the race tomorrow but in the end the financial interests and the fear of saudi arabia that they might lose reputation if the grand prix gets cancelled was bigger of course.
The crash of Mick Schumacher looked extremely hard, the car was totally destroyed i mean it was literally split into at least 2 or 3 parts. I think it is safe to say that 20 or 30 years ago there would have been a big chance that a driver would have died in a crash like that but thankfully the car has evolved quite a lot since then.

“I can confirm that Mick looks fine physically, he talked to his mom and so on. Most likely, he was taken to the hospital for examination as a precautionary measure, but we are awaiting updates from the FIA on this matter. So expect a statement from them, ”journalist Adam Cooper quotes the representative of the Haas team in his social networks ...

I think everything will be fine.

Mick is conscious, but I don't know more details than the Haas twitter has shown:

We’ve heard that Mick is conscious, out of the car and currently on his way to the medical centre.

And the crash was bad:

Schumacher went into the wall and the Haas car is totaled. Split in half.
Luckily he was airlifted to the nearest hospital and I believe is alright but what a scare for all drivers to witness that.
Qualifying is under a red flag now.
I didn't see the crash due to watching something else at the moment but was flipping to the race on and off.
Hamilton who is also out of qualifying now commented on Mick's condition and look very shocked.
I do hope he is alright and he definitely won't be on the track tomorrow, As the announcer had just mentioned as they will keep him for observation.

Hmm was counting on LeClerc NOT to repeat his performance so I guess the engineering issues are here to stay? No idea, seems unclear even from news reports but I'm probably still sticking to my picks in the pool -- and keeping them almost exactly as they were on Race 1.

Anyone changed their mind after today yet?

Vettel not being available this week as well should be changing a bit of the odds for sure. It is not easy for Aston Martin to matter this season, they already looked bad when the cars first revealed, then they lost Vettel and now they are going to just face the fact that they are only one of the 2 teams that are "fighting" for the bottom spot. Williams and them.

Mclaren will fix their issues, Red Bull will definitely fix them, Williams and Aston Martin doesn't seem to have "issues", they are just plain bad and will not matter. It's sad to see Seb being at this stage of his career racing for this type of team, but that is the reality, what can we do.
Yeah read the headlines that Sebastian Vettel is not available to race this weekend but hopefully he can return soon enough so not to miss anymore races.

I have Sainz to win the qualifying and the race tomorrow in Saudi Arabian grand prix. For some reason even with LeCleric getting the fastest lap during practice I think he won't want to take all the glory this time and will let his teammate have some fun with those fast F1 Ferrari's.
