It's interesting that you can bet on Polymarket (US based and No IP blocks) and probably several other sites.  Somebody thinks it is ok, as they funded Polymarket with $4 million.

Hopefully the US is set to deregulate gambling. I know some states are working out the details after the Supreme Court said it was ok.

deregulate gambling in the US, what?HuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuh

just curious why would you care about this at all and why would you have a thread about it?
The reasons and motivations are explained in my opening post in the thread I linked in the previous comment. Read about it there if you want more information.

what benefit do players get from an IP block?
The benefit of not being allowed to deposit funds in a casino where they are not allowed to play, only to have their accounts blocked, wins forfeited, or other problems that happen from time to time on different platforms.

have you ever read or heard one complaint in the 10 years of fairlay of them holding a users funds for geo location?

Cool, is there anyway you could call the city code department in my city

I am too lazy to cut my weeds and if you called and told them on me maybe that will motivate me to cut them when they come out and give me a fine

@Fairlay

I sometimes perform tests on casinos to check how much effort they make to restrict players from restricted countries to access those casinos.

Here is a link to the thread where I do the testing:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/--5278411

I tested Fairlay.com the other day, and according to your TOS, USA is one of the countries whose players are not allowed on your site. But I noticed that you don't have any IP restrictions for US players. I was able to use a VPN and create an account on Fairlay.com.

Many casinos have implemented IP blocks, why doesn't your casino have them as well?

When are the US election bets going to resolve?

In my opinion there is a <0.1% chance of the courts overturning the presidential election result.

I have taken a look at the site, but find it very unclear and not clearly structured. Maybe the design can be adjusted somewhere?
The most famous exchanges all have roughly the same infrastructure and design.

have you tried using the fairlay app?

This has always been an issue with Fairlay since the beginning. Many gamblers including me complained about the design and the cluttered UI, but the Fairlay team didn't focus on resolving these issues which is why we have gotten used to the interface itself.

The big Pro in their favor is that it's the only crypto betting exchange with decent liquidity though that could change since new ones like Exbet are slowly rising in popularity.

I've been able to use the site and place bets like normal (just with the occasional Ctrl + F5 to fix the cache issue) for the past week. For search, you can search by editing the URL directly: https://fairlay.com/markets/?q=manchester+united&sort=close_date.

That's really weird that you haven't been able to fix the problem with a force refresh and browser change. What browsers have you been trying? I've been on Firefox (v83.0b3) and haven't experienced the problems you describe.

I saw the cache error message on topbar at first so assumed it was a site problem. Might be an issue with my browser and cache too... I actually don't like clearing it all, just cookies, and then I've been overloading my memory with multiple extensions. I'm on Chrome (latest update) and tried with Edge... I'll go try Firefox on another device later but for now, thanks! Your search string is exactly what I needed as a temporary fix!

Hey guys. Site's been down for a few days now, I think? I saw that there was a cache problem maybe since mid-week Champs League, and now can't even use the search function to find markets OR the trollbox Customer support.

Waited for a while but seems it's stuck forever now. Any tips on how to search for markets without that search bar? clicking it simply doesn't work, force refresh, cookie clear, VPN, browser change etc;)

I also forgot to add one huge difference

fairlay you can create your own markets and set your own prices and commission rates

with degens you basically stuck with their markets and they control settlement of those markets.

anyone that uses my app already knows that markets made using the app have nearly 0% commission

Note, that Degens only does sports and I don't believe we've ever had a dispute. This is done intentionally as sport results are extremely rarely disputed.

Yes, you are correct that you cannot create your own market on Degens. Degens intentionally does not allow this to minimize the possibility of disputes.

I'll check out Fairlay one day if I ever stumble across some BTC... BTC hasn't really been a thing in my circles for 5+ years. As you are aware, Degens.com uses the DAI stablecoin on the ethereum network which supports smart contracts which we believe are the future of sports betting.

no disputes in sports bets, is either extremely naive or completely a lie, one or the other sports events have disputes almost every day.

and why are you here promoting your site in a btc forum if you think you might try using it if you find it in your trash can that you forgot to throw out 5 years ago?

do your users have to use gas, isn't gas really expensive right now?

I like the way you try to passively-aggressively dog btc on a btc forum, that takes some big balls

there is no difference on theft of funds

if you deposit on fairlay they can just disappear and take your funds with them
on degens they can just grade everything a loss, disappear and take your funds

I personally like degens layout and prices are good,
I think degens staff or owner is a complete knobjob and  I would absolutely hate to deal with him on a dispute or issue.

fairlay UI can be difficult for new users but once you know it is good and the app is really easy to use but very low limits
fairlay management staff is hard to find and they don't seem to really prioritize users needs attentively as they could
fairlay support staff is very responsive and helpful but the support staff have very limited power and refer many things to management

I personally don't use degens just because I feel like if I had an issue the owner does not give me the impression he would be helpful but full disclosure I don't know that directly, I only know from my interactions with him on other business matters not as a degens customer

pulling odds data is not liquid

who settles degens markets?

if degens settles their markets how is it non custodial?

Liquidity is trivial to acquire if pulling accurate real-time odds is possible. On the Degens Betting Exchange, most users use this automated market making code which makes it easy to provide liquidity as an real time odds source is included - https://github.com/degensprotocol/degens-mm

So for no cost, and no access to 3rd party real time odds data, you can be a market maker on Degens if you run the above code.

There is an oracle that grades most events through an API and then that result is confirmed by a multisig of real people at Degens.

It is non custodial as your funds are never in the custody of Degens, funds are escrowed in a publicly auditable smart contract. This compares to Fairlay where you deposit funds into their custody.

That said if Fairlay's commission structure is as cheap as you say, 0.1%, then for the vast majority of users using Fairlay is the logical choice as the risk of them exit scamming is tiny since they are the OG in this space.
