I see no problem with Giannis himself, I have always said, they didn't focused playing Giannis like he plays in NBA, dude sometimes brings the ball up the court in NBA and usually has the biggest usage rate. Here because of his height and power and wingspan, coach played him at center time to time, that is not acceptable I mean this dude can play make and dribble and drive inside so well that he won MVP with those in NBA so let him do it.

I would say if Greece came with another coach, or even Coach Mike Bud then they would have a shot at going to finals let alone getting eliminated here. They tried to play a team basketball and I applaud the notion and the nobility of it but when you have a guy like Giannis then playing a team ball becomes moronic.
It's over, Greece didn't qualify because there are other better teams than Greece in the competition, they are just hype because of Giannis.
You cannot compare the play in the NBA and in this competition because it's completely different, especially the rules, teams that are successful in this tournament are teams that really played like a team.

USA live to what people are expecting them, and they remain the best team for now.
When they said that Serbia and Greece has a chance of upsetting the USA, it seems like the remaining team that can do that which is Serbia have also struggled in the competition.

This year FIBA tournament is full of surprises because sometimes the team ones least expected turn out to be the winner of the game but I'm sure today's quarter-final is a loss for the Argentine.
You can't be sure, Serbia is still one of the best tea in the FIBA per ranking but they loss one game already, so this means they aren't unbeatable.
This is a quarter finals where we will see a more intense game and I don't think the Argentine will just give up easily here already Serbians are have one of the best players in the NBA.

We have to remember, Giannis and his team failed to qualify to this round and they were one of the favorites to win this competition, so we never know what would really happen, let's just put our bet here.

Congratulations to all the GRE, NZL, AUS, GER and the US fans for todays winning and tomorrow is the quarter-final of the FIBA 2019 game with my prediction.
1) Argentina vs Serbia @ Dongguan Basketball Center; Serbia is to win
2) Spain vs Poland @ Shanghai Oriental Sports Center; Spain is to win

I'll go the same with your prediction.
Spain and Serbia and both heavy favorites in this game, they are -15.5 and -11.5 respectively, so I can say that can win this game easily.
I like Spain and Serbia to advance so they will both have a chance to face the USA and whichever team will face the USA, I will support them against USA.

Both teams have the capabilities to be a strong competitive against the team US, this two opposing teams are promising  to show a good fight against whoever will be the opponent, though upsets can still happen and there's no assurance which one from the league have the edge against another, good luck everyone.
That's correct the two team poses the ability to be the winner of this year game and this is why I choose the above countries as the winning of today's game base on their previous performances.

We have Argentina vs Serbia today. A few days back, no one would have even considered a possibility of a team such as Argentina upsetting Serbia. But after their meek surrender to Spain, Serbia is looking very vulnerable. And the betting odds also reflect this possibility. An upset still looks very unlikely, but we can't completely exclude that possibility today. Here are the betting odds:

Cloudbet.com: Argentina at +11.5 (1.83) & 6.2/1
sportsbook.ag: Argentina at +11.5 (110)
Oddschecker: Argentina 6/1

sportsbook.ag:

Thanks for introducing me to this new sportsbook, I was surprise they still have the line to which team will win in the FIBA.
According to the line shown in https://www.sportsbook.ag/sbk/sportsbook4/fiba-2019-betting/odds-to-win.sbk, It's still the USA who is the favorite to win the competition.

I screenshot the odds for you guys,

Level of referees is so shitty in this tournament. There was lot of questionable moments in Greece - Czech fame, Greece was already robbed against Brazil, same like Lithuania against France. This happens when you don't invite best refrees to the tournament. Most of referees in World Cup simply have not enough experience to work at such high level tournaments.
Congrats to Czech Republic - quarterfinal is amazing achievement for this country.
And what a gam between Australia and France - probably best in World Cup so far. Nobdody didn't wanted to face USA in 1/4 final.
Past is past, I can't also believe that Greece was defeated by Czech but that's how it goes so let's move on Cheesy. This year's quarter finals are very interesting because there are fresh faces in like Serbia, Poland and Czech Republic; let's see how can they pull this off against consistent teams of FIBA. Anyway, whether they intended to lose or not, I love Australia's strategy, they're so witty when it comes to bracketing.
In any sports there are always a questionable calls, but it's their job so let's trust them to do their job, besides those if there are  lot of complaints, it will be reviewed by the committee and this will affect the future of the refs with lots of questionable  calls in the game.
Yeah! We don't have no choice but to trust their calls. Sometimes, what we saw in TV/actual game is not necessarily the same thing they saw. Besides, we are unconsciously biased (don"t deny it) in every game and got different perspectives when it comes to game violations as well so it's very hard to speak regarding this matter.

It's almost like FIBA was looking to save a couple bucks by hiring sub par refs.

No, those aren't substandard. Those refs involved in the issue of wrong officiating are already in FIBA officiating for almost a decade. FIBA is a world-class event and all countries involved are aware of the activities including who will be the set of referees. These referees are in a top-level and came from different countries. However, some of them really did some wrong calls that affect the output of the match. Don't know why some calls became shitty.

And as punishment, as what FIBA did already, the refs who are in question in the officiating between France and Lithuania are now suspended. Hope they will not ruin the game in the upcoming Final Phase of the tournament.

That's right, the refs are top level that's why they are officiating the games in FIBAWC. We see some errors on their calls but men, they are also human and is bound for error. They are not perfect and overall their call are satisfying for me.
Sometimes their calls really were questionable and this is a known league and to know their sympathy they have already given the right punishment for those referees. That will serve as a warning to other referees to make right calls.

Yes, they are not perfect and they commit wrong calls but that's it. FIBA itself already made the decision and respecting it would be our priority and let's go on and move forward.

We know this is a big stage as each country are competing to win, therefore it's expected that they will complain if they don't feel the call is fair.
Also, I think there are corrupt refs here as we know how big the money is involve in online betting, other sports are rigged, I don't like to put exemption to this event.

No one expected the Czech Republic to qualify for the QF. The Greece vs Czech Republic game was so close. Had Greece scored one more point, then they would have qualified for the quarter finals. But for now, Greece has become the first heavy weight team to crash out of the world cup, despite the one man show of Giannis Antetokounmpo.

I agree and I felt bad for you in France vs Lithuania... Regarding Greece, yes we played a bad tournament all in all but still... we were big time today. And yes, congrats to Czech Republic, its great for them - its still somewhat strange to see a team advance which is just worse... Wink

To sum up the Greek tragedy: Giannis is a great player, he is MVP, he is definitely not the best player in the world though and even more so, he is not a player to decide and win matches on his own, especially not outside of the NBA - he is just not a shooter and big scorer... Plus our coaching staff didnt find ways to integrate Giannis as good as possible. Sloukas played a bad tournament, Calathes today played the match of his life with the National team but it wasnt enough.

All in all, you just cannot compare todays Greece with the team consisting of Spanoulis, Diamantidis, Papaloukas, Fotsis etc. back in the day. Maybe we as Greeks have to realize that we really are far away from the Elite - around 8th-10th place, this might be where we belong.

27seconds left Greece up by 5pts.

Greek fans and esp. efialtis must be devastated right now. You just couldn't pull it through in the end even though having 12pts lead in early 4th q.  Giannis getting fouled out and some silly fouls/tech fouls might have just cost you the needed win. I thought the spark and energy provided by Thanasis at the end the 3rd q would be enough for Greece to take command over the game...guess not.  Undecided

What a pity for Greece. There started with high expectations and they finished this way.
They made a good try against Czech Republic but they lost their qualification in the match against Brazil.
Congratulations to Giannis that showed who is the best player in the world, even when the rest of the Greek players outperformed.

Well said, Greece needs to stand down and let this one to passed then come back strongly, Giannis together with his brother are still young they have a lots of experiences to improved as time goes a lots of things will be learn and will show back strongly.
Even if you lose games in FIBA, don't feel too bad. It's just a downfall on you. You can learn a lot from experience in playing. That was an international basketball match. Strong players from different parts of the globe were gathered. Not just Giannis and his brother. All of Greece team. But, don't get me wrong, there's a guy that stands out on that match. He's white and a good three point shooter. I just don't know who he was.
