On the other hand, it will be more difficult for Morocco to face Portugal later, but we don't know how Morocco can do it well. There is the possibility of another surprise, Portugal is already a lot of favorites on paper.
The OP should redo the Poll and update it to reflect the current teams that have advanced to the next phase of the competition -  Argentina, France, Portugal, Brazil, the Netherlands, England, Morrocco.

Argentina and Brazil are very strong football teams, if they win the quarter finals, then these two teams will meet in the semi finals, then either Brazil or Argentina will be eliminated from here, so it is very difficult to predict which team will play in the finals this year. Many predicted that Brazil and Argentina would meet in the final but that is no longer the case as they will face each other in the semi-finals who can progress past the quarter-finals.

The defense built by Morocco really went perfectly, almost throughout the match they were pressed but they were able to withstand any pressure given by Spain. It's true they won't be able to win because they dominate the game as long as they can't score goals. But they couldn't fix this in this World Cup. They can make up for something that they lacked in this edition because they have a young squad of players they can keep in the future.
I was busy all day long yesterday and I was unable to watch the match, I was surprised when I checked the match details that Spain dominated with 75% of ball possession but unable to have more shots on target. With 25% ball possession, Morocco was able to have 3 shots on target but the match still finally led to penalty. What surprised me the most was that no Spanish player scored penalty. Morocco is the only African country that still remain at the quarter final stage.

following last night's goal, portuguese star Pepe is now the 2nd oldest goalscorer in world cup history. in this top ten there are 2 more players (C. Ronaldo and Giroud) who are still active and also still in the tournament

On the other hand, I wouldn't conclude that Portugal will beat Morrocco. I do not care if they are the favorites. I know people thought the same of Spain but where are they now? On a plane half way home. This is football and my best bet is that may the best side with the best strategy and luck win.

There are two assumptions, the first is that Unai Simon's performance is really bad and second, the Moroccan player is very good at taking penalties.
I tend to think of Enrique as the Spanish coach making a blunder by not asking Morata or Pedri to kick first. Pablo Sarabia and Carlos Soler fell short, it really put Busquets the other kicker under immense pressure which was also a miss. In the end other than the bad Spanish kicker, Bono's performance is incredible.

>snip
Morocco will lose against Portugal, that match I think will really put Portugal as the favourites.
I can see that Morocco with 120 minutes added to the penalty shoot-out didn't concede a single goal, that's great thanks to the hard work of the team and the goalkeeper who is able to guess the opponent well, that's why Morocco can do well, while I'm different from Spain who doesn't have a tiki-taka baiting game like before, this is even more faded and indeed Luis Enrique misplaced players from the start (my assumption) Morata should have been more important and not backed up but that has all been his decision in carrying out his strategy.

On the other hand, it will be more difficult for Morocco to face Portugal later, but we don't know how Morocco can do it well. There is the possibility of another surprise, Portugal is already a lot of favorites on paper.

All of the quarter final matchups have been decided finally. My favourite teams for the semi final are Brazil, Argentina, Portugal and France. The most difficult matchup is of course between England and France. The odds of the match can also be considered as proof for this. But I still see France as one step ahead of England. Especially the Mbappe effect is going to play a big role in this match. He is playing on the wing unlike his position at PSG. Walker will have a big responsibility to defend him.

If England stay strong in defense then they can increase their chance to qualify for next round. I expect to watch a close match of which France win at the end.
France does look stronger than England but that does not mean they will win against England. I think the French national team really depends on Mbappe, so if England can stop Mbappe's movement or at least do a very tight guard on Mbappe, then England will have more chances to win the match as long as they can show performance like in their previous matches.

I would not be to sure if Portugal will really not having much trouble to beat Morocco in the quarterfinal. I mean we basically were all thinking the same about Spain before they have faced Morocco a few days ago and we all know how it went down in the end. Even though Spain was the dominating team in that match, Morocco also showed a great performance and they even had a huge chance to win the game in the overtime.
Portugal showed a great performance yesterday but we also have to take into account, that they were extremely efficient yesterday. If you are up with 2 goals after 30 minutes then everything becomes so much easier. I think it will be a very tight game up until the end unless we see early goals of Portugal again.
I do not team that Morrocco stands a chance against Portugal. Portugal in my estimation are the most in-form team in this tournament. In addition they have the finest players in world football. They are the team to be beat in other words they are the favorite in the competition. With top players such as Bruno Fernadez, Bernardo Silva, Joao Felix, ect and also they are all player for Ronaldo becasue they want him to retire with the world cup trophy.
Every team has the own strategy or game plan on paper Morocco can't match Portugal in term of quality players however the Morroccans might resort to play defensively and counter attack when the opportunity arises just to hold on for a goalless or draw match against Portugal recall when they played Spain,  they are well possessed with less dominance in the match because they sticked to their game plan and won via penalty having full confidence of their goalkeeper to save penalty kicks personally I still hope that the outcome of the match is 50:50 because Morocco will be well motivated.
And what you should know, and also that many Moroccan players who are still playing in some of Europe's top league clubs have even been key players and this has made Morocco able to compete with the top countries and even overthrow them.
and the meeting in the round and quarter-finals Morocco will face Portugal which in my opinion is a tough opponent for Morocco and will also be a very interesting match to watch, apart from the England vs France match, the match between Morocco and Portugal is also very tough. And my prediction is that Portugal and France will win and will meet in the semifinals.

In my opinion, the favorites of this world cup remain the Brazilians, they have top players in every department, the other national team that could give you a hard time is France, which is also the reigning champion! I believe that they will be the ones to play for the World Cup final, I don't like the English but France is clearly superior. as far as Morocco vs Portugal is concerned, in my opinion it will be a good and tough challenge, the Moroccans have shown us so far that they are well organized and difficult to beat, but Portugal has many top players and they are unlikely to make the wrong approach to the match! I'm really curious to see this match. for me the semifinals will be Brazil vs Argentina and France vs Portugal

Spain lost on penalties to Morocco due to poor goalkeeping.  But they played very well and both teams battled hard with neither team able to score between full time and extra time so eventually it was decided to decide their victory by panty. Anyway the game was very good and bad luck for Spain that despite playing so well they could not win the game and have no chance in the quarter finals.  But it can be assumed that they will do well in future

If we look at the results of yesterday's matches, I want to say that it was a surprise for me. Especially the Morocco vs Spain match was a surprise for everyone. Nobody expected Morocco to eliminate Spain. This completely changed the course of the world cup in a way. It is the fault of the Spanish team that they played such a pressing football and didn't score. In penalties, it was the last point that they didn't score any penalties.
Portugal got a result that I never expected. I honestly didn't expect so many goals from this match. Gonçalo ramos showed his difference and led Portugal to victory.

Spanish team played like they are always playing - endless passes and no one to actually score a goal. I'm glad that it costed them because now they will have to change something. Yes, it's nice to see them passing the ball in the center of the field, but you can't win if you don't shoot at the goal. Too bad for some of the older players for which this was probably their last World Cup.
Well they have always done so, it's just that if they get a weak team on the way, then Spain can win easily and usually with a big score. After 2010 there is a certain decline in the game of the Spanish team, since the 2010 World Cup Spain has not beaten serious rivals. In 2014 the Spain lost heavily to the Netherlands, in 2018 they played twice in a draw with Morocco and Portugal and then lost to Russia on penalties, now they are also out after losing 2 matches in a row - to Japan and Morocco, and also dragged Greece behind them.
In general, the crisis in the Spanish team is becoming clearer.

Portugal and Brazil in the round of 16 really showed their superiority.
Brazil managed to beat South Korea with a score of 4-1. and Portugal also managed to beat Switzerland with a score of 6-1.
Brazil will next play Croatia. and I think Brazil will win in that match.
and Portugal in the next match will be against Morocco. and of course Portugal too I think will be able to win the match. I imagine Brazil and Portugal will meet in the final.

No one ever thought that without Ronaldo Portugal can perform so much better. They have dominated in almost all the games they have played in this world cup. No doubt they are the favourite and so is Brazil. England is also a better team and the next game that they will play is against France. Either of them will stay in this World Cup and since Portugal has not won a world cup the chance of them getting the cup is high.
Portugal showed some mind-blowing performance 6-1 what a win and without Ronaldo.  This shows Portugal is strong without Cristiano Ronaldo and can win any match easily.
Brilliant performance by . Ramos he did a hatrick .
With this type of game we are looking forward to see Portugal in finals.

It is possible that Portugal might win the world cup this year as I wrote earlier they have never won the cup and they will perform out of their way to win the first this time. The only competitors that can give them a hard time are England and Brazil or may be France. As there have been too many upsets in this world cup till now we can expect more. But, one team will surely go to the finals and that is Portugal. Morocco can be a tough team bu they lack those team coordination when they play.

When Spanish players failed to scored penalties that was a disastrous moment for all the world and Spain,  like what was their state of mind and why they were soo stressed
Spain played exceptionally in starting games of the world cup and yesterday they were performing total different.
Morocco on other hand were more  confident and how easily they scored penalties was amazing.
Penalties are not that impressive when compared to the matches played by the two teams (Spain and Morocco). The Moroccan national team was only lucky to win via a penalty because they managed to hold back and prevent the Spanish players from scoring in the match. Although on the other hand the efforts of the Moroccan goalkeeper who has been able to save three penalty kicks from Spanish players deserve praise.

I feel like better teams are going to next rounds all around. Luck isn't something very influencing in this tournament. If this trend goes on Brazil will very likely bring world cup to their home. I don't think Croatia can go to next round. There is huge power difference between them.
I also want to watch Brazil against Portugal soon. Their match can be the most enjoyable match in whole tournament. Cristiano Ronaldo is key player tho.
It was quite surprising to see that Portugal was able to win with a landslide score from Switzerland and it seems that Portugal didn't need to worry when Ronaldo was no longer defending their national team because new talents kept popping up in Portugal. Brazil is a strong team but Croatia can trouble them in this quarter-final if the Croatian defense can keep out the attacks from the Brazilian attackers it is very possible that it will go to extra time but penalties I don't think I can't remember when Brazil faced that.
You know what would be a shame. Imagine a scenario where we finally get an Argentina vs Portugal finals, that is quite hard, it would require Portugal to beat Morocco first and then whoever comes from England-France game, and Argentina would need to beat Netherlands and probably Brazil, which is all too hard anyway.

But, let's assume it happened, what if Messi plays 90 minutes, and Ronaldo starts from the bench and only gets in like after 70th minute or something? This game showed Portugal could be better without Ronaldo starting, dude is amazing scorer, but he just slows the fluidity of the team down, and they may keep him at bench and then sub him in later on for the rest of the tournament. That would be the biggest shame of all time.

The point is that Morocco isn't a bad team like many people think. They have a lot of players that are playing in the best European football leagues. When compared to Croatia, they have one less player in the top five European leagues than Croatia. The problem is what will happen when they eventually concede a goal. How will they play? I just hope that we won't be seeing any more games without goals.

I never thought Spain would be World Cup favorites in Qatar to reach the final. The Spanish squad is not strong enough especially on strikers, and this is not their era to win it. I even firmly believed that Spain would never have reached the final had they beaten Morocco in yesterday's game, but their journey ended much sooner.

Brazil has the advantage of reaching the final, as well as Argentina, Portugal and France. I have my doubts about England but their football has developed well in this generation. I think Spain and the current generation of young players still have a chance at the next World Cup or in another competition, so they just need to prepare for another competition from now on.
