The status of Lionel Messi is simply too big and exerts an excessive amount of influence over every decision. Scaloni for instance will be conflicted between building the team including the choice of players on Messi who is as of now old. On the other hand, he could get ready for plays and pick his players with less reliance on Messi.

I do not think Messi is fit for playing at a high level in the next World Cup yet perhaps his presence in the national team alone can make them feel better and play better. So there are for sure vital decisions to be made.

I don't understand whether the rumors are true or not. I can't confirm it at this time.
