When looking at Ronaldo's game at the last Euro, there was indeed a very significant change in his playing style. However, the choice at that time to fill the front line, Ronaldo was the best choice in my opinion and maybe that's what the coach thought too, so he put Ronaldo there. And also he can still contribute to the game even though it's not like what we saw when he was young. 2 more years is still a long time and I don't know what will happen in the next 2 years, maybe we will hear him retire.

Messi has actually achieved everything in his career, including being able to win the World Cup, in terms of ambition he may not have thought about it anymore because he has felt everything. And it is also possible that he has started to consider retiring in the near future, yes that might happen. We are just speculating here, because previously we had discussed the possibility of 2022 being the last World Cup for these two players.

Situation is very interesting because still too much available for the talk on this topic where we are currently standing Cristiano Ronaldo is doing good job and his target is achieving record first ever person in soccer history who will score 1000 goals with currently he is having 895 goals, and he is extending his contract with Al Nassr for two seasons which will allow him to do this and then after participating in world cup he will be retired from all type of soccer this is understandable.

But as mentioned Lionel Messi is already having all under his belt with captain of winning world cup team and now recently he had another milestone which give him tag of GOAT as well so he needs to give up and do thing which will bring better honour for this player instead of running for long time and having another World Cup in sight which is possible but surely no easy task for them because they are currently at the top which is surely their main target.

Both players have quite a large fan base, and will certainly attract the attention of many people as usual, the organizers will profit greatly from their presence. However, all possibilities can still happen, and we will never know how Messi and Ronaldo will be in the next two years. In terms of age everyone would probably agree, that both of them are no longer ideal to play at the top level, but only they themselves can decide their future.

The manager will of course prioritize young players and that makes perfect sense, although in terms of experience and composure the megastar contribution is still highly anticipated. If both of them are re-elected by their respective managers, I think there must be other considerations, such as fans demands, balance in the dressing room and motivation for young players. Apart from speculation about their future, usually at every World Cup event there is always a new star who steals the public attention, so we will not be short of surprises.

The fact about these two players is they are getting old but they are legends in their country and they had perfect performance when they were in the better form in the last recent years. Even Messi was the key player for Argentina when they won the last World Cup title. I think they be able to let these players go easily and not use them in the next World Cup because still they still haven't found any alternative players yet.

I assume it wouldn't be too far away from now. Because games are played with quite big breaks and there are many games to be played as well. I hope we enjoy the upcoming World Cup even more than Euro 2024. I'm worried about Brazil though. Sad

In the few matches Ronaldo has played for Portugal at the Euro tournament, he has looked like a helpless player. Not being able to finish properly, not being able to pass the ball properly, not being able to run at the speed he used to, as well as not being able to head like he used to, may make Ronaldo wonder if he will play for Portugal in the 2026 World Cup. As long as he was a good performer people talked about him a lot but now many people are trolling him because of some poor performances in the Euro tournament. If the performance doesn't change then I don't think Ronaldo or Messi will play the 2026 World Cup for the national team.

It's still a long way to go for the 2026 world cup, but people are so excited to watch the world cup, it's amazing.
Messi and Ronaldo will definitely come to participate in the 2026 world cup despite their old age, I think they will play even though they are not given a long time because their age is already master and their performance will definitely slow down far from their golden age in the past, but I think to see the reputation and performance of Ronaldo and messi they will get a stage to compete even though they are old, unless they themselves refuse it.

And I totally agree that it's the last world cup that will cap their retirement.

I disagree with the first part. Although Ángel Di María was an important player for Argentina, it would be wrong to state that his position can't be replaced. Argentina has a lot of younger players coming up through the ranks. They have some of the best emerging players in the world, such as Lautaro Martínez, Alejandro Garnacho, Julián Álvarez, Enzo Fernández, Valentín Carboni and Valentín Carboni. Other teams like England or France have 1-2 such players, but Argentina has half a dozen at least.

And recently he suffered a serious ankle injury during the Copa America final (while playing against Colombia). Although Argentina won that match (as a result of a goal from Lautaro Martínez during extra time), Messi was forced out due to injury. I am not sure whether his health and fitness will allow him to play for another two years.

He is getting old and getting injured is something normal for a player at this age like him but the fact about Messi is he is trying very hard to have better performance and help his team. He is a player who played in many world cups and I think this can be a good achievement for any player to be in the good form since he gets old like Messi.
Now he can even help his team as a leader and help younger players.
