In spite of not being in the same camp as Flat-Earthers, I'm taken aback by our closest star supposedly having an Earth-like planet orbiting it. How convenient to have said star in some plane not in line with our orbit have said planet just happen to be in a plane tilted such so that when it passed in front of its sun we were able to "see" it. What are the odds?

It was simply advertising.
Who knows what the moon landing really looked like. They didn't know ahead of time that it would work out that well. That's the only reason they made the movie. It was all advertising so they could get funds to go even further.
The real question is, how do you take advantage of people waking up to the fact that the landing vids were faked? The answer is, make the people thing that the Orion Project is all the farther they have gone. Then, at just the right time in the future, if necessary, they can allow people to get some idea of the great strides they have really made behind the scenes.
In other words, they are playing dumb like the people are beginning to think they have been all along. They are doing it so that they can suck ever more funding out of government, when really, they are way farther along than anyone could begin to imagine.
