It is expected knowing that the capacity or the purchasing power of money to buy is depleted. No one could.be save with their especially if all countries economy will going to collapse. For now government has no income or lesser income and the need or maintainance in every department too are always asking for the support but where to get the funds? This is really a disaster in the future if this pandemic continue.

My country is Indonesia, I am very lucky to live in Indonesia because even though I am currently in a pandemic I do not feel any alarming price hikes.
Indonesia is a fertile country, I don't need to buy vegetables here because vegetables are very easy to get without buying, the only thing I need buying is rice.
The biggest influence of the pandemic in Indonesia is the difficulty of getting income, many factories are closed and trade is starting to fall apart, we can only be patient and entrust everything to the government to overcome this virus so that everything returns to normal.

Covid-19 really caused inflation in food items in the country. Many farmers find it difficult to grow their crops in the farm just because of the lockdown the government has imposed to all citizens to remain at home till there is a solution for the virus that is killing citizens and also spreading all over the country.
Since the government has discovered the vaccine for the virus show, famers will now be allow to go to farm to grow their crops so that, there will be enough food items in the market to bring the price down. Very soon the price of some commodities will start decrease because of this lockdown the government has removed from the country so that everybody can resume work fully.

Most of the world's economies are currently experiencing a downturn due to the global pandemic which is capable of damaging the world economic system.  Not only food ingredients are increasing nowadays, other needs are also experiencing the same thing.  This is of course the duty of every government to stabilize the economy for the better so that the economic wheels of the people can continue to rotate and no one feels disadvantaged by each other.

That's right! Not only food prices but basically other items needed. The usual reason of these merchants is the difficulty in transport of goods, which I think is still reasonable. However, I hope some of them will not take advantage of the situation and just increase the price to the right level. Maybe we will see this in the next coming months up until the vaccine is deployed to major population.
Well, it all depend on the government that has the authority to hold prices in this trying times of pandemic. Just like what happen in our place that most of the locally own establishment offer help by not extending or increasing market price. other utilities like electricity bills are now being reduce and those payments are also extending giving consumers with grease period to pay.

In my country, it is not just the food that the price increased in this current year; the electricity bill, other utility bills transportation fee and many more. I think it is because of inflation where our currency is weakening in these past years, it is so sad that our currency is weakening and a lot of expenses are keep increasing especially the food. In our culture, rice should be at the table and it is so sad that even the price of the rice is keep increasing in this past years.

Here in India, the food prices were stable for the last 5-6 years. But during the last few months, the prices have risen for a few items. There is no need to panic yet, but it is highly unusual. The farmers are having surplus output and everyone were expecting the prices to go down. And in the end we have to deal with rising prices. And the biggest tragedy is that it is not the farmers who are profiting out if it. Only the middle-men are making profits.
What happens is that the markets are distorted by several factors, to begin with most governments have been printing a lot of money and even if farmers were able to produce more food if the inflation was higher than that then the price will go up, and second as you say most farmers have not increased the price and instead it is the middleman that has done so and they did it because they know that under normal circumstances people will simply not buy their products as there will be always someone else willing to sell for cheaper, but thanks to the pandemic people buy food regardless of the cost because they never know if there is going to be shortage at some point and they do not want to be left without any food.
It's resulting more from greedy sellers than inflation itself. Some people see in crisis times an opportunity to increase their profits taking advantage from the chaos.
Especially on the countryside, where people aren't going too far away from home, the supermarkets are rising food prices considerably, what doesn't make sense even taking inflation in consideration. Some products had their prices increased in almost 100%! They do this because they know people have no choice: or they buy from them or they don't buy and starve till death...

In normal times people can just go to central cities where there are hypermarkets and the prices are lower and they can find better cost benefit offers, what forces local supermarkets to decrease their goods prices also to stay competitive.

In my country there are almost no hikes in prices, Indonesia is a rich country in foodstuffs, but Indonesia still imports foodstuffs like sugar and rice, I believe this is politics.
the only problem is that it is difficult to earn income this year, the pandemic has made almost all trading chaotic.
My country increases some of the food price and some are in stable. Most of the countries are importing other products. I don't know why our government doesn't support our local farmers here. If the did support us, probably we will not have price hike in foods.

Most of the businesses are closed and only few actual jobs are available, it's really hard to earn income right now.

Yes that is posible because the economy of most countries falls down except I think for china and other countries who had been experience this kind of virus that has spread within their country before covid19. They had already capablemof making adjustments and that is why their economy remains strong compared to others. Well, I hope they find ways too to help other countries especially the poor countries.

Unfortunately 2020 will go down in the history books as a very volatile and crazy year, the sooner we see the back of it - the better. It is inevitable that richer countries will be able to buy up products, because farmers and producers are always looking for the best prices. Consumers in countries like Romania will suffer in the short term, but the businesses that produce stuff in your country and pay taxes to your country will be making higher profits. It's easy to blame it on the EU, but the real reasons will stem from your local government politicians.
It inarguably is. Health plummeted when Hygiene care increased. Besides that, the economy also took a weird turn. Especially in the Philippines. Instead of getting a very high inflation rate from the countless loans the Government took, they actually fared fine and the Philippine Peso's value even increased compared to the USD from P54=$1, to P48=$1. Though it's obvious why it happened, and it is expected that the massive blows on the Philippine economy will be felt as soon as the larger countries recover.

When i have time i go to local market to check prices

Vegetable prices doubled
Fruit prices doubled
Meat prices around 30% increase
Grain products around 20% increase
...

And my country  is a exporter of food products

How is it in your country ? Same ?

----------------------

My country is Romania

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-04-10/food-supply-fears-are-growing-as-romania-bans-grain-exports

We tried to ban exports of grain ,but stupid EU intervened...

I am thankful that I am not part your country. We have a great leader in our country so I solely trust them and do my part of being a good citizen. The price of food in our city remains the same when since our president was elected from say one. So that means even though there was inflation and something else that could've changed the price of the products in out here, it remains the same.

Every country has a different price for food and different quality, because my country has a lot of agricultural land and good weather.
The price of foods such as vegetables, fruits, meat, herbs and spices is very cheap when compared to food prices in Europe and America.
Besides, my country is one of the third world countries whose people have very low incomes, So the government must keep food prices
stable, so that people can afford to buy food. Regarding this year, the pandemic has not made food prices expensive or has doubled,
because like I said the government will keep prices stable. So that people do not starve and are still able to buy food even though they are
experiencing an economic crisis.

It seems to me that inflation has remained at the same level only in the largest capitalist countries. In the rest of the world and especially in the third world countries - inflation is rampant and it is not surprising that in many countries over the past year, food prices have doubled .

Speaking of food, in my country is not lacking. However, with this pandemic, many countries experience varying levels of food price inflation, due to the policies taken by each government to withstand the spread of Corona virus.

Losing revenue and remittances creates strong tensions and food safety risks in many countries.
When a corona virus crisis occurs, causing disruption to the domestic food supply chain, this affects food production.

The way this pandemic shake other countries economy that is causing them inflation all over the country show my country really stand well in the areas of agriculture. Many things increase in my country but food price still remain the same as usual. Many farmers  who where storing the farm product hoping that food items will increase during the pandemic which the food price remain the same through out the pandemic.
The government really spend on agriculture that keep people not to feel food flation during the pandemic that is making other countries wonder the way the government maintain their economy not to allow food inflation enter their country.

It turns out that we are one country, but in my place there is no significant effect during this pandemic, may I ask which province you are in?
