Thanks Phil for the quick test.

Versus AMD -- NVIDIA's powerdraw seems much better and efficient, ZEC or ETH

ZEC, not ETH is still more profitable according to whattomine.com -- slightly higher on 1070s vs rx480.

And after all of this -- much power saving on NVIDIA - I think ZEC rigs on NVIDIAs will be best bet in 2017 and probably have best ROI ratio too since it uses less power to mine.

Only downside is that NVIDIA GPUs are more expensive than AMD however with BTC so high now..... I doubt that AMD "best for mining" title will hold true anymore.

Any experience with 1060 Zotac or evga mini single fan? Contemplating between that or evga gaming dual fan. Seems like the obvious choice would be a dual fan card unless blower style but maybe they use less power.

The MSI looks like a good deal ... just wondering if the single fan is enough for mining.

I've had some of the single-fan Gigabyte GTX 1070 cards for a while, they stay plenty cool as long as the fan is unobstructed.
1080 a good single-fan design should be OK but don't block the fan at all - 1080 don't eat that much more power than a 1070.
I'd be VERY iffy about even thinking about mining on a single-fan 1080 ti design if one exists unless it's a high-end blower style.

my msi single blower have a lot of room to breathe.

so far no issues with the two I have and i ordered 1 more.

but I am doing power limit of

65%
100+ core
300+ memory
75%  fan

640h well under 200 watts at the wall

@ citronick  I will give a try for the 1080 ti doing claymore

on my aorus 1080 ti   I get 36mh for eth
on my msi 1070       I get 30mh for eth

showing as 63.9 on the pool .

I would need time to figure out watts

look at width of that aorus far right.

First 3-card-wide single-GPU card I've seen in a LONG time (HIS Ice-Q blower designs were effectively 3-card width).

Should cool well, but obviously intended for use as the only card in a system, or max of 2 in a system.

Yeah I think i will be waiting before I throw more cash into GPU

I'd say NVidia has already priced VEGA upcomming competition into their higher-end cards (the 1080 and 1080ti).

Only reason I'm not adding more cards right now is that I don't have any more power available where I am at right now - and the place I have arranged to move into that DOES have more power has an existing tenant that's dragging their feet getting moved out.

Is it possible to run amd And NVIDIA cards on the same rig ?

Yes - but in general the machine will end up being somewhat less stable than running a "pure" rig one way or the other.

Easy to do on Windows 7 or 10 (almost the ONLY think Windows does better than LINUX), can be done under LINUX but the installation of drivers is a bit more complicated.

Btw Phil....

Can you try the 1080ti on latest Claymore ETH on Windows ?

The 1080ti has 11GB of fast memory so technically Claymore can create more processes with more than the 8gb found on AMD RX cards.

The existence of ETC is a major reason why ETH really can't go POS; not that I think it was likely in the first place.
This two statements are intriguing, especially connection between ETH not being able to go POS because of ETC staying POW.
Could you elaborate?

ETH going POS would be like Coke deciding they will no longer produce Coca-Cola Classic, but will only sell Coke zero.

In the future you will get 100:1 chance to get Coke Zero when buying Classic!

Their bullshit has its own bullshit.

Called this over a year ago; took 6 months longer than I expected.

The closer you look at ETH; the more questions you will have.

The best thing ETH has going for it is that most people will never read the whitepaper or review any of the code.

I'm betting in 6 months there will be a nerf announcement; which drastically reduces what ETH will actually do.

I like this announcement   they can stay 99%  pow  for 6 months  and then say  step 2  98% pow.

It is a clever way of staying as a pow coin  and keeping asics at bay.

Most people  don't understand how bad asics are for coins.

But if you see what an asic giant like bitmain can with LTC  the true problem of asics get revealed.  Simply too much power in one companies hands.

I still see most news helping gpu back coins.  This 99%  to 1% idea can buy six solid months of ETH mining at a minimum.

Which in turn helps my nvidia's mining Zec.

Oh  I ordered this card today on ebay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/382048425324?

700 x 1.07 =  749 after tax  but  I earned 56 ebucks  so net 693   six months no payment or interest with  paypal.

I could have ordered this

 http://www.ebay.com/itm/ZOTAC-ZT-P10810A-10P-GeForce-GTX-1080-Ti-Founders-Edition-11GB-GDDR5X-352-bit-/172587640269?

this would have been 675 - 54 ebucks =  621  six months  no payment or interest  with paypal.

I own both cards the msi from   is better  and newegg will get the card to me 5 days faster.

So a small edge to the msi.

I finally  am feeling some what okay with my spring allergies.   I am  going to start the redesign of the solar  array next week.

Almost pulled the trigger on 2 of this

But ... I like MSI a lost.

https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137104

But is this one of the good model you were talking ?

https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125954

... more gear please  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

the aorus gives me the best numbers  but it is 3 slots  well 2 ¾ slots wide.

all the founder editions seem to be the same.

I have 3  zotac and  1 pny founders
I have 1 more zotac founder coming

Here are some good msi  better then my founders I have 2.

http://www.provantage.com/msi-gtx1080tiaero11goc~7MSTI0M9.htm

you can get them cheap in newegg canada

https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137115

they seem to be the lowest priced ones on newegg  ca

https://www.newegg.ca/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007708%208000&IsNodeId=1&Description=1080%20Ti&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=36

they do better then  the founders.

here is a few shots of 1080 ti's
4 cards the
power at wall = 776 watts on a hot meter  other meters   would show 750 watts
that meter shows 1 mobo and 4 cards below   note the msi  is on a riser and is powered by   that same psu  but runs off the mobo on the right.

The MSI looks like a good deal ... just wondering if the single fan is enough for mining.
that's been my worry too

canada price for herbpean  you did a usa qoute  different dollars Grin

that msi  is running at 62C in a 90 f room  doing  about 640 h with a 70% fan

zec is doing well at nicehash still pushing 60-65 a day  for my gear  and using  about 2.6 k-watts  for 7800 hash  the 5 amds bring it down a bit  so 3 sols  per watt for entire system.

I could run this in house even when power rates jump on June 1

Say power = 63 kwatts at 20 cents that is 12.60  per day  and it is earning 62  still up 50 dollars a day in the summer!

When you say its 2 cards or 3 cards wide . . . would I not be able to make it fit as the 6th card on a 5 card rig that I currently have setup? dimensions seem close enough ? https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125955&ignorebbr=1

My AR-15 ID's itself as a toaster. Want breakfast?
hey everyone... I know it's a bit off-topic but was wondering if anyone here is using the Ledger Nano-S hardware wallet to store ETH/BTC.  I've got one coming tomorrow and was just wondering if there are any gotchas or things to look out for before moving some coins onto it.

I have a Ledger Wallet....  I love it.

Recovery mechanism is nice;  Easy to access via Chrome app.   All spends are 2FA or more (depends on how you set it up).

All done on-device.  It's my cold storage, along with a paper self generated vanity second one.

move 0.2 coins in and out a few times to get a feel of using it.

that way if it crashes  you don't lose much. I have no idea if it is any good.

This device is very good !
