Monaco's match against Rennes was marked by red cards for each team and even though they had difficulty dealing with pressure from Rennes, Monaco managed to maintain a narrow 1-0 lead until the match was over. To be honest, I didn't expect that both teams played quite hard in this match, but here Monaco must secure full points if they don't want their place in the top four to be replaced by another team.
On the other hand, Rennes, who appeared very determined, also wanted to secure points so they could get closer to Lens, but unfortunately they failed to do so even though they were behind at first. Statistically, both teams have a fairly balanced record, it's just that Monaco was a little lucky this time. In the next match, Rennes must win again because Lyon has started to trail them after successfully beating Nantes this week.
Each team received 1 red card and both had to play with 10 players after in the 64th minute Monaco defender Thilo Kehrer committed foul for which he was given red card by the referee because it was violation with second yellow card.
In this match, Monaco slightly dominated the game but narrow win in home match like this is not satisfying victory.
It just that Rennes is not weak team and Rennes performance in this match was quite good because they were able to keep up with Monaco and only conceded 1 goal.
With this victory, Monaco is again approaching Brest points tally, which is in second place, it seems that Monaco is also targeting to finish the season by finishing runner-up.
As for the Rennes itself, I not really interested because what will really look competitive is the competition in getting points from the two teams between Brest and Monaco.
They will meet in the next match but Brest has the advantage of playing at home, this might put pressure on Monaco but I want them to be able to show competitive match against Brest.
