I feel sorry for Leverkusen, they really played some good football throughout the season. The loss vs Hertha probably ends their chances of qualifying for the CL.

It has to be said that Monchengladbach deserves that place, their football is a bit more reactive and defensive but they are more compact and balanced and have even scored more goals with that approach than Leverkusen did with theirs.

At the bottom Werder still has a chance if they beat Koln, which I think will be a good bet to take.

Both Monchengladbach and Leverkusen played a good season. Whoever gets the spot, it doesn't matter much to me but I would be a bit inclined towards Leverkusen since I always root for last round action and like the last round table shifts a lot. So far I haven't seen such chances taken but hope I get to see so in last.

I still can't believe how Nurnberg managed to get crushed 0:6 one week after they won 6:0. They relegated from the first league last season and now they are in danger relegating again, this time to the third league. Hard to believe they are the team that won the most Bundesliga titles (behind Bayern Munich ofc). Hopefully they manage to secure themself a safe spot. I would miss them if they relegate.

Dont worry i cant believe that eigther and they was playing better before the pandemic but i guess the most teams have done that.
Yeb hopefully they can manage there spot to stay in the second League.

And if we see Heidenheim in the relegation for the first League i guess they dont can handle the matches well , and if they get into the League they have a hard time in the first League.
We will see that the coming weekend what will happend wirh all othe teams .

Nothing has ended for them.
They are 2 points behind Gladbach and 3 behind Leipzig, If one of the two teams lose points then Leverkusen is back in the game. I think that this fight for the Champions League position is going to last till the end.

They did win only one title in Bundesliga (1967/1968), but were very successful in collecting titles before that. Them being so poor for a long time is just the result of decades of mismanagement and other clubs catching up and overtaking. After the championship in 1968 things went downhill and they never were able to establish themselves as more than a mediocre team in Bundesliga at best. They always struggled a bit money-wise and there was always some agiation inside the club. They had some highs with good players and a functioning team/environment, but weren't able to back it up longterm.

In the 80's and 90's you could get away with it to some extent, since the smaller clubs were still even poorer in terms of management and finances. But since around 20 years, you have more and more of those smaller clubs making huge progress and if you don't get your act together you will be left behind. These smaller clubs like Freiburg, Augsburg, Mainz are here to stay, because they perform very well in all regards and there is no agitation at all. And then you have the clubs with big-ish money like Hoffenheim, Wolfsburg, Leipzig. There is just no place for clubs like Nürnberg in Bundesliga anymore, unless they change their whole structure by 180 degrees. And the fans and media also play a big role in it. You aren't the big and great Nürnberg anymore - you are a mediocre team with huge tradition, but thats it. You can't buy anything with tradition. The clubs, fans, media need to be more humble and stop living from past success. Have a fresh start.

Nürnberg is a lot like many teams from the good old days. Clubs like Frankfurt, Cologne, Gladbach relegated as well, but they were able to come back big time, especially Frankfurt and Gladbach. But you also have Kaiserslautern, who just filed for bankruptcy and play in 3rd league against amateurs of Bayern Munich. Stuttgart and Hamburg are the next clubs, that could go either way. Either they will be able to follow the route of Frankfurt/Gladbach and establish themselves as an above average team in Bundesliga again or they will probably be stuck in 2. Bundesliga or lower for ages.

It all starts with the management/coach and making good decisions, but a lot of big clubs just lack in this department. They have way more money than Mainz/Augsburg/Freiburg and are also able to earn way more money, if they are successful, but they are just too dumb.

I wouldn't say mission impossible for Leverkusen and Bremen but their last game was disappointing and made things very hard for them. Both teams had to win their next game + expect M'Gladbach and Düsseldorf to lose their match since even a draw doesn't guarantee anything. Goal difference is quite bad  Undecided

Fingers crossed that they stay in the second League for the next season , because they arent safe for now .
Yes, this is gonna be interesting.  There are actually only two teams left in the race for the releagtion game. Nürnberg and Karlsruhe. 2 points difference. Goal difference also 2.

Yeah nice point. Well they also gotta leave at one point to go for something better in future. It's not that many player have left Leipzig but only Werner is going to leave. Still it would be a challenging task to find someone fitting for role of forward in his place. Also loan deal of Anjelino and Schick is also about to end. Will be interesting to see how they handle up in next season.
It is not all about Werner but about the others and important players who are in loan deals in this season. Anjelino and Patrick Schick are important players of Leipzig. Having another contract with the coach is great but losing Werner and maybe two others Anjelino and Schick is not good.

Recent seasons, we see Ajax lost their key players, from De Jong to De Ligt and Leipzig will almost not avoid the same destiny on transfer market.

I read somewhere that they want to have both Anjelino and Schick as according to their Leipzig sporting director. They both are very good players with their abilities. Anjelino however don't had any intention of joining back according to that article. Schick is also getting interests from many teams. Both players buy out clause are too high for Leipzig. I do hope that they at least get one player out of these two.

But Leipzig has Red Bull backing them up. So even though they lost Werner and (most likely) will lose Upamecano, I am not afraid that their team will fall apart. They are doing a fantastic job in integrating young talented players into their team and I still think that there are chances we see Schick and Angeliño for Leipzig next season again.
There are chances to see Schick and Angelino in the club next season but there is no guarentee for that.

And to set their current place in the table into perspective: Sure they won the 'Herbstmeisterschaft' (1st place after the the first half of the season) but keep in mind that they play in the Bundesliga only since 2016 and before 2014 they played in the third league. So even though they had some mixed results lately, I am sure they are quite satisfied with their performance this season. They reached the quarter finals in the Champions League and the chance to qualify for it for next season is also pretty good.
In Bundesliga, Bayer Leverkusen and BvB face with same problems after their big successful seasons. After such challenges, it takes a few seasons for them to come back and be competitive again.

That must have been a very emotional trip for the teams. Especially for the fans. How did they got the information from the other games? With a portable radio?  Smiley

Yes i can confirm that it was emotional for the teams and more for the Fans because im was and still a Nürnberg fan.
And that year was not the only one , they are the most relegated team in the German League.

Fingers crossed that they stay in the second League for the next season , because they arent safe for now .

With a portable radio?  Smiley

Yep, you could see lots of people with rather big-ish radios next to their ears. At that time there also were already SMS services for mobile phones, where you would get a SMS for every goal scored in the stadiums. It was for free, but slower than live radio of course.

You only needed like one person with a radio in the stands and after a few seconds the whole stadium including the players knew - it spreaded like a wildfire Grin

Has anyone ever been relegated above goal difference?

Don't you remember 1998/1999 season ? Grin This was the best ever season finish in terms of relegation in Bundesliga.

No I cannot remember. I wasn't interested in Soccer at that time. But thanks for that. That must have been a very emotional trip for the teams. Especially for the fans. How did they got the information from the other games? With a portable radio?  Smiley

The challenge is how Leipzig will be able to prevent player leaving the club in the coming transfer season. Many clubs like Leipzig have only one successful season, and after that they lost good players and falling in league table position.

I really like the game of Dortmund when against Leipzig, very offensive and tactical. Therefore Dortmund can win 2-0, that is a fitting
result for Dortmund. And Erling Haaland showed his best performance by scoring 2 goals, hopefully in the next match Dortmund can
continue playing like this.

Leipzig did a good start to the season but started struggling. It's hard to believe when they were so close to Bayern and messed it up so much after then that they are now about to finish as 3rd on the table.
Leipzig is a big surprise in Bundesliga this season. It is good for the club to expand a contract with his talented and young coach. It is a good way to build up a strong and stable team with the same coach who help them to have a big successful season. The challenge is how Leipzig will be able to prevent player leaving the club in the coming transfer season. Dortmund are playing quite well after Haaland came in their team. It will be interesting to see if he is able to give off the same performance as well in next season. Next round is the last round of Bundesliga so it wouldn't make any difference for Dortmund now even if they win or lose. Yeah they can get off with a good feeling of closing the season with a win.
Dortmund and Haaland will be able to fight for the Bundesliga title next season. I don't have any doubt that Haaland will have good performance or even better performance for Dortmund next season.

@Shasha80 I’m glad that Dortmund played well and won this game as I had wagered a small bet on them, and I was absolutely delighted when Halland scored those goals, because then I knew I could finally stop worrying about loosing my bet. @hd49728 if Dortmund wishes to win the title next season then they need to hodl on to Sancho, and stop chocking in important matches.

Has anyone ever been relegated above goal difference?

Don't you remember 1998/1999 season ? Grin This was the best ever season finish in terms of relegation in Bundesliga. Standings after round 33:

Source: https://www.fussballdaten.de/bundesliga/1999/33/

Nürnbergs Coach Friedel Rausch already got flowers from officials and a big round of applause from the whole stadium before kick-off for keeping Nürnberg in Bundesliga. What happened during the next 90 minutes was crazy. Rostock won a crazy game 3-2 in Bochum. Frankfurt vs Kaiserslautern was 0-0 at half-time, while Nürnberg was trailing Freiburg 0-2 at home, but still all good. At 70th minute in Frankfurt (it was 1-1 then), things got insane. Frankfurt scored 2-1, 3-1, 4-1 in 12 minutes and suddenly Nürnberg was in huge danger, because Rostock just took 3-2 lead in Bochum as well. Nürnberg managed to score 1-2 in 85th minute and Frankfurt was relegated at that time again. In 89th minute Jan-Aage Fjörtoft made it 5-1 with a super cool stepover for Frankfurt and Nürnberg relegated Cheesy

Yeah i remember that very well , it was realy a sadly story in the end for Nürnberg.
Hopefuly this dosnt happened again this time in the second League and they get down into the 3rd League.
But they lost against Stuttgart with 6 to 0 at home , and it dosnt looks good for them on the 15th place now.

Also i guess we will see Stuttgart next year in the first League again.

(...)last round of 2. Bundesliga will be more than interesting to watch

Bielefeld will do everything in their power to crush Heidenheim, because they have friendly relationship with Hamburg Smiley And Fürth will happily lose to Karlsruhe, because they are arch rivals to Nürnberg and if Nürnberg fails to win their game at Kiel, they would go into relegation playoffs. Combo Bielefeld&Karlsruhe should be good bet imo.

Heidenheim scored in overtime, and have 2:1 with Hamburger, which get them position three one round before the end, and they play in Bielefeld in last round, which could be good for them, since Bielefeld already secured Bundesliga next season, HSV has Sandhausen at home, but they could secure everything in this round, so will have a bit of pressure next week

on the other side of the table, Karlsruher did not managed to win over Bielefeld and make useful Nurnberg score that lost 0:6 at home with Stuttgart, last round of 2. Bundesliga will be more than interesting to watch
