We are in the 21st century, until when before people realize that suicide does not put an end to problem, but rather create more for those living??

That's really a sad story, but I can't understand why someone would end his life over gambling. The shame and financial insecurity that comes with losing large amounts of money is devastating, but suicide is not fixing any problems. It's the easy way out for the person itself, and everybody else is stuck with the problems. Like you said, suicide is only creating more problems not fixing them. I wish anybody who has thoughts about suicide would think more deeply about the situation. All the debt you accumulated and the money you lost for your friends and family is not coming back overnight, it's not solving any problems for the living. That's exactly why I would not consider suicide a real option, my family and their well being is more important to me than my own situation. I couldn't leave them alone with all the problems. There is always a chance to find a new job and repay the money we lost, life is more important than money.

I dont think that loosing school fees was the real reason to commit a suicide. It was last drop before he made that decision. I believe that people dont commit suicide so instantly, it is a decision they  came to with time. It said that he has bough insecticide. I think he has planned that suicide. As you can just all of a sudden decide so quickly how to kill yourself, as he had to be sure that it will work, but not just cause damage and paid.

I hope we all as gamblers learn a thing or two from this, and go back and look at our gambling life and see if there is a thing or two that needs to be adjusted..
I pray non of us, and any of our relative shall ever be a victim of such a sad story 😢😢.
Sad story and I didn't read the news you included so I don't really understand the details of the story, but as far as I know, the people who finally decide to commit suicide are people who already have the intention to do it and the victim just waits until there is a reason finally did what he had previously thought, so if he commits suicide because of gambling he would very likely also commit suicide because of other issues that really made him stress and became depressed. Gambling can indeed have a bad impact on the perpetrators, but every bad thing that is done by people for gambling reasons is not entirely true because they will also probably do bad things for other reasons, so the problem is in the person's mentality and anything can be a trigger, including gambling. If any of your colleagues have ever said that they want to commit suicide, it is better to immediately take them to an expert for treatment because that is dangerous enough.

What makes me even sadder is amount. Just checked how much money he needed. Its amount is like much cheaper than playstation 5. Think about it guys. Especially ones living in developed countries I mean. (I am not from developed country but amount seems still very low to me). I feel like poorness causes many issues as well. If you are regularly using internet you wanna live better lives. So betting/gambling your money away can look good idea to you etc.

sad to see the reality  about the bad effect of gambling but sometimes it is just the decision making that makes this into real world.

Condolence to the family and friends.

Even though I know things like this happen in gambling it still makes me sad to know about this. I'm also a gambler and I can feel the hopelessness he got. That's why I don't deposit my own pocket money, especially not mine. I can say, I still can control myself. If that was me, although I can handle my emotion and not resort to that. Still, that is not easy to handle especially if you and your family live in poverty and don't have the ability to gather that kind of amount in the shortest possible time.
If you will probably never deposit pocket money and of course still control yourself but in this case he is a teenager who is still in school and most teenagers who enter the gambling industry more easily act emotional and crazy out of curiosity and a high desire to win big. taken over by the brain.
In my opinion, this is actually the fault of parents who cannot supervise and pay attention to every action taken by a child.
I'm sure he has several friends who are both addicted to gambling, so we as parents must be able to monitor and prevent our children from avoiding people who like to gamble so they won't be affected by gambling.

I saw this thread last night and It almost brought me to tears, because I kind of relate to what depression feels like.
Do you know what the worst part of this news is? It is the fact this happens more often than anyone of us is actually aware. People with future, dreams, hopes and feelings end up taking their own life because they have left themselves to fall into a spiral of desperation and hopelessness.

I do not know if he had some faith or not, but I sincerely hope he is in a pleasant place now or at least in a place without pain and suffering, sleeping until he can be back to face our creator.

Completely heart breaking.

I've done something like this when I was still in college and I was a fool that I fooled my hardworking parents but it's not with gambling but with something else that I've done like other activities with my friends and spent it just for those nonsense things. It's sad to see that a life has to end like this even if we don't like it happening. I think the student's thinking is that if he wins then he's got more money, he'll be able to pay his tuition and at the same time he's got spare from that winning. I also think that there's an influence that has happened to him, we may not know it directly but I usually see something like this in social media where these posts are encouraging people to bet so that they'll have more money and they'll have their problems solved. And while the kid is still a student and a young mind, he probably fell for that. Peer and social pressure really is one of the problem.

What resulted to this lost?
Is just a greed because I don't think a reasonable person would gamble with his school fee and that of his friend all in the name to make profits, normally I know everyone needs profits maybe direct or indirect after collecting tuition fee from parents and wanting to be smart enough to make more money has now landed him to lose the whole lot of his school fee. To me as a person they should remove greed while gambling because it stairs up some unnecessary acts or behavior that may lead them in a big danger where even going to extent to borrow or loan to gamble due to how they felt reliable with their predictions but no because gamble is a game of 1 or 0.

How do you know, that the root cause of this case is greed. this boy is an educated person, he is educated to gain knowledge for his future provision. in this case, we cannot judge someone without knowing the background to the cause of this suicide case. in fact, what we read from the link the OP shared is a fraction of the story or stories that are in the news. in essence, we know nothing of what actually happened to that student apart from his gambling, his tuition fees, and the reason he gambled that ultimately ended his own life. in essence, we both agree and do not justify whatever reason the boy did. the problem of greed, is another matter. I'm sure, there is something that triggers behind this boy's case. but one thing for sure, he had taken his own life away.

In essence, the essence that I got from this story is that we should not get stuck in the problems we face, especially in this discussion is gambling. it would be fatal to do the same thing this brat did. that's why, make gambling just part of the fun without expecting a definite reward. don't gamble, if the money is not money that shouldn't be at stake, whatever problems we face when we need money, whatever the needs that squish us. for sure, gambling is not the solution.

It's really a shame, this is really one of those sad stories that really tell the dark side of sports betting and gambling in general, I could not help it, but had tears rolling down my cheek while reading this story..

Another future father, a future millionaire maybe, young 22 year old boy with a promising future lost to suicide after losing his school fees, and that of his friend to sport betting due to gambling addiction..

We are in the 21st century, until when before people realize that suicide does not put an end to problem, but rather create more for those living??

This is really a sad story though, ya all can read it on https://punchng.com/how-ogun-student-committed-suicide-after-losing-school-fees-to-sports-betting/?utm_source=telegram&utm_medium=social

It is a very sad story. Sometimes when I see similar stories like this about someone who committed suicide because he or she lost money or something silly related to this, I am always shocked. But I can't just think and imagine killing myself because I lose things, especially money. No matter how much money may be, I can't kill myself because of money because that will not be the solution.

Getting addicted to gambling is not a good but a bad thing  thing because  addicted to gamble that can cause a lot of terrible things in someone's life. Let's just imagine this guy that committed suicide at this  young age because he lost his school fees money to gambling. How much will that school fees amount be that he decided to toke alway his life? When someone is addicted to gambling, there is no money he/she can't use to gamble, if not why will someone use it school money to gamble.

When I read articles like this or the summary of yours, I immediately think that there could well have been much more to that suicide than "only" those losses on sports gambling. If this true or partially true, the next step by the media would be to find one catchy reason that they focus on and then spread the story as far as they can. I am not generally doubting that this happened. It probably did. But when one of us would gamble away the tuition fee of ourselves and that of a friend, I am not sure how many would really pull the trigger and kill themselves immediately.

It is possible that sports gambling was one problem of a chain of negative events that this young guy had gone through. I don't know what your thoughts on this are but you can think for yourself whether you would kill yourself when life is actually alright but you fuck up and lose money for yourself and a friend in the amount of a tuition fee.

It is very annoying when things like this come from the loss of gambling. However, I do not think that you can hold gambling sites liable for this. You also don't know to what extent it was the fault of the player himself. He probably also didn't have a stable base in life and a pleasant environment, otherwise you have enough other things to live for that are worth living, that's my view. You often hear that gambling losses lead to major social problems, such as being fired from work, but suicide is of course the worst thing that can happen. I hope the environment can cope with the loss.

hence, the reason why gambling is not for youngsters because they can't handle the emotional stress brought by gambling. even adults would have the difficulty of handling such situations, however, owed to their life's experiences, they tend to tolerate such stress better than younger ones.
there are so many factors involve in this scenario but the main culprit of course is how the person will contain himself despite of the huge loss, and to consider that it was not his own money.
adults and younger ones have their own ways how to cope up with big losses. and if you're not ready for it, the tendency is to really opt for detrimental decisions.

In this case he gambled away his tuition fees due to excessive greed at the instigation of his friend. When he loses in gambling, fear is created inside him and from that fear he is forced to commit heinous acts like suicide. In this case I would blame the boy's friend and his despicable motivation for this death that led him to die today. ্ As the boy bet with the tuition fees and fear of accountability to his parents is forced to commit suicide. Finally, one word for everyone, no one should be forced to do anything by showing excessive greed. In this case, if any untoward incident happens, he will force it by showing greed, it may have an effect on him.

No matter what happens, suicide is never the solution, the people who fall to addiction should ask for help as everything can be repaid and solved one way or another but when a life is lost no one can bring that life back and that is a very sad story.I had a lot of time without hearing such stories and I must admit I am somewhat sad after hearing this story despite me not knowing at all this person.Unfortunately a lost life cannot be brought back but let's write here in hope that some other people who are addicted start asking for help as in 21st century everything can be solved and that SUICIDE IS NEVER THE SOLUTION TO ANYTHING Cry.

This gambler did many things wrong and it's sad that he had to commit suicide to end everything. He made a mistake by making use of money that is very important to him to gamble, we are advice against doing such things but many gamblers still do this.

He also used his friends money which is also wrong, I think he would had told his friend to borrow him and he'll pay back thinking he's good at predicting. we should never borrow money or use others money to gamble because so many things might go on.

For anyone that is in this kind of situation, don't give up. Come over to the forum and seek help, ask questions and members of the forum will give you advices that you can pick some good ones and follow to help you. Suicide isn't an option, you can do better always.

Every religion in the world says that suicide is a great sin. God will never forgive this great sin. Although the school boy had just lost his school fee gambling bet and could not bear the pain and committed suicide it was undoubtedly a foolish act. No civilized people or nation of the world can accept such evil deeds.

It saddens my heart when I read news like this happen to our young ones. It makes me feel like our society is not passing the message well to the young generation that gambling addiction should be avoided and one should apply his intelligence when getting into it.

At times, I keep wondering what the perception that young people have these days towards gambling. Is it that they believe that gambling is the shortest way to make them rich when involve in it with huge money? Now, the young boy has taken his life by suicide, has he not caused much pain to his family and friends more than the school fees amount he spent on gambling?

It's about time we begin to tell the young ones we find in gambling venues to stake less in gambling no matter the odds it will give them
