Honestly, marrying a gambling-addicted person is really bad because his wife may hardly get any rest of mind due to the problems he maybe causing around every day.
I agree.

Instead of having someone to help you out with life and reach goals together, you're marrying the problem. That's truth that needed to be said and that's actually a good knock out to the wife or soon to be or whatever happened to them.

But it was a red flag and a sign that she shouldn't saw long time before. If she has cut off the wedding and marriage, then that's a good decision for her.

She has dodged a huge bullet.

In fact, the lady who thinks the decision is good will actually be good for her. Although I think people should be checked with second chances, I would also say that it is better not to marry an addicted gambler, because they only put the family in a bad situation and never try to get out of that bad situation.

Honestly, marrying a gambling-addicted person is really bad because his wife may hardly get any rest of mind due to the problems he maybe causing around every day. One thing about a gambling-addicted person is that they are liars and can do anything possible just to have the opportunity to gamble all the time. Let's just imagine what happens according to the story. How will a gambler use the money they want to use for a wedding? If someone uses the money intended for a wedding for gambling, it is very possible they can use any money to gamble. It shows that this kind of person will hardly have time to take care of their family.

As a wife then pretty sure you would really be able to project into your mind on where you would really be ending up due to the cause of having that too much spending about on the money that being used in gambling specially if you are someone who do have that family then it would really be just that understandable that you would really be needing up to have that at least the consideration on trying out to avoid specially if you are the husband and since basing up on the situation above given on OP that they arent that married yet and having those pooled funds for marrying expenses but ending up on a disaster since its been used in other means or in gambling then this do really shows that the guy isnt really that giving out important into their wedding. Wasting up the budget allocated for that very special day and
making those steps does shows that he do love gambling more than into that wife-to-be on which as that female or someone who have that relationship towards that guy will really already giving out those doubts.

Some folks are just not meant to manage money on their own because things like this happen. Honestly maybe bro was really thinking he could win but he didn’t take into account that he could lose literally everything including his soon to be wife. I doubt the wedding went through after that one.
IKR. Many of us can relate when it comes to these things, so it also means that all of these people are not meant to manage their money? And who will manage it then? There must also be a risk if we let other people to manage it for us. There is a chance if we take risks but the percent of it can only be lower.

I think we also know it but we only insisted to continue and now that the sh8t happens, we can only regret it. There were lots of stories about this and how it destroyed so many relationships. I think bro also get an idea from that. It can take time for the wife to heal with this but I still wish for a happy ending for the both of them.

Hi guys and ladies, here comes a very sad and heart-breaking story (true life confession) of a young lady who was contributing money (saving money) together with her husband-to-be (fiancée) in preparation for their wedding. The story in quote ..

Quote
My fiancee and I have been making arrangements for wedding, we are both contributing (saving) money because i know about his financial condition, in fact, i will say that i have contributed to about 60% of the total money in our savings, just for him to use nearly all the 5 million naira (approximately $5000) we saved to play betting and when i asked him about it, he said he was trying not to put all the wedding burden on me, that he thought he would be able to double the money.

I am really speechless and confused, and i think it's best for me to call the wedding off, what will i even tell people that already know about our wedding plans? this is the most disgraceful thing that has ever happened to me.

Even though i don't know this young lady in question personally, i felt true pity for her after coming across and reading her confession, i know how important weddings are to women and for the fact that she herself joined the man in saving, and even contributed about 60% of the entire funds they managed to save, shows or showed how committed she was to see that their wedding takes place, but unfortunately, the man gambled the money away, what could be more heart breaking than this?

Damn, it hurt to read this. Some folks are just not meant to manage money on their own because things like this happen. Honestly maybe bro was really thinking he could win but he didn’t take into account that he could lose literally everything including his soon to be wife. I doubt the wedding went through after that one.

Is it in that story that their wedding didn't really go through? Because, as a result of the story, it looks like the wedding really didn't go ahead because the money allocated for the wedding was gone. That's a bit sad and painful on the part of the woman because of the abandoned result because the guy thought it wouldn't happen.

From what I saw with the guy, it seemed like his only reason was that they might double their gambling fund , but the truth is that the man made it happen just to follow his passion for gambling and his greediness for gambling; he wouldn't have been able to do that if not for the addiction he has. It's really sad that there are situations like that that don't work out just because of vice.
I believe you meant to say, double their "wedding fund", anyways, like I've already said in my previous comment above, I do not think the man was a regular gambler, not to talk of being a gambling addict, what happened to them just happened, it is not as a result of any of them being a gambler, or being addicted to gambling.

And lets not always make this mistake of assuming that every gambling mistake or loss in gambling is from an addicted gambler, no no, even first time gamblers can make this same mistake the man made.
Anybody can think of how to double their money for some reason(s), and someone who have never even gambled before but have heard about gambling and how people can easily double their money through it, can decide to try to double his or her money too, and that might result to this type of misfortune as well.

The same scheme can occur in investments, especially when someone wants to multiply their money quickly. We know that there are lots of fraudulent investment offers out there initiated by irresponsible individuals, so if someone who has no experience is tempted by these offers then you can be sure that all their money will be lost due to being cheated.

So I understand what you are saying correctly and sometimes this doesn't just happen on one instrument. Mistakes can occur when someone can no longer think logically or lacks knowledge, this will clearly cause losses. Gambling is not a place to multiply money as most compulsive gamblers strive for, but gambling is for fun and should not be misunderstood.

When I was reading this story I could not stop laughing because can you imagine. The moment kept for wedding used to gamble is just a lot insane because am wondering if he does not know the risk behind gambling but looks like he wants to get more money for their wedding but that is actually place to do that, and the lady needs to have a rethink of wether she will continue with the wedding or not, marrying someone that is addicted so gambling is like wise putting your finances at risk. Anything addiction will end up create more problems like gambling on debt and so many inappropriate things just because they want to gamble and even with all this they still will be having difficulties to win. Addicted people don't win except they want to be faking the whole winning. It is better to try and aviod anything that will be a difficult problem to solve than want to manage it because people like managing instead of them to end everything to protect them self.

It is normal if someone wants his wedding to be grand but using gambling to make money, that will not be a wise thing. He can works hard and smart to earn more money for their wedding and not trying from gambling. We should take this as an important lessons because no matters how we try to make money from gambling, we will not gets that wins money easily. We can loses all of our money without any left and makes us disappointed to see what we have gets from gambling.
Cases like this actually happen a lot out there, it's just that not many people want to publish them in the public space, usually they are more secretive in this matter, I once had a friend who used the money to pay for his wedding to gamble but instead of getting more money, he ended up lost a lot of money, obviously he felt guilty because he had spent all his future wife's money where the wedding was also held in a luxurious place, it seems he was in debt to cover all the money he lost, luckily my friend didn't try to gamble again and thought about recovering all the money he lost due to his defeat. instead he fixed it by borrowing money from other people to cover the costs of his wedding.

Obviously this will be an experience for him and even for other people who might read this message on the forum, it is important to protect yourself from things you don't want, don't be tempted by big wins at gambling, not everything we see is good is also good, Everything has its limits because not all gamblers become rich from gambling. Think before acting and trying to enter the world of gambling. There are risks that must be accepted gracefully.

If the wedding didn't go thru, then I guess, the bride is lucky as she learned her soon-to-be-partner about his gambling habit. As stated in the story, she called the wedding off. It may have some emotional stress on her, but look at the longer implications of his habit. What will happen when they have their own family already, and the last penny they have, her husband will use it to bet. She will thank herself if later on in their life, she will learn what the guy turned out to be.
But if the guy just gamble in occasional basis, like he thought he can help in increasing their funds, then maybe, she can have a good talk with him before they eventually push thru their wedding plans.

You're absolutely correct mate, the bride is indeed lucky as the wedding was called off else she would have regretted marrying a gamble addict/ irresponsible gambler. The story is emotional, I feel pity for her because, she made lots of sacrifice to ensure the success of the wedding, having contributed that huge amount of money yet the groom made her sacrifice worthless. Marrying a gamble addict is a mistake that will only end up in regrets except the addict quit his addiction. Learning to gamble below your risk tolerance as a gambler is very important because it will save you from lots of trouble.

True, that is the positive side that we can take from the incident or case, maybe God has a good plan for the bride-to-be where God makes the case happen which is indirectly to tell the bride-to-be that the man who is going to marry her is someone who has a bad personality especially as a result of being addicted to gambling. And also honestly I can't imagine what will happen if they do the marriage contract when one of the couple is a victim of gambling addiction, there will certainly be the possibility of quite bad problems in their household life.

On the other hand, yes I understand that addiction can be cured but it is a disease that is difficult to overcome as we know, meaning that choosing to cancel the wedding is the best decision that leads to the prevention aspect, and the conclusion is that gambling addiction can have a very significant impact, there are no exceptions in it and the point is that gambling addiction can destroy all aspects of our lives.

          -  Maybe that man was too complacent that he could double the wedding fund of his fiancee at that time, and his expectation that he would be lucky in gambling was also high.
Maybe because he wants his fiancée's wedding to be grand.

That's why the guy didn't meet what he expected to happen; maybe somehow the guy apologized to the girl for what he did because, despite what he thought, the girl still supported and followed what the guy wanted because she loved him. We just don't know if, in the end, they were the ones who stayed together to become a couple despite the events.
What he expects can't always happens as he wants. That's the lessons we can takes from that story. We can't double our money from gambling with a reason to have more money because gambling is not like a work that can gives you an income. Gambling can takes your money easily without giving back the wins money to you and makes you feels sad and regret after you knows what you have done.

Although sad things happened to the girl, there were other positive things that allowed the marriage to not have to happen between them, it was better to break off the relationship and I'm sure if they had stayed married, something like this would have been repeated in the future, from the man's side showing his true nature. This is just another example of how gambling plays with one's inability to control emotions and rely solely on luck to multiply their finances, allowing one to fall into this, and destroy their finances.

Yes I agree that gambling using money that should not be used for gambling is a risky thing, the person should not gamble if their finances do not allow it, the heart's intention to reduce the burden is the opposite.

That’s true, I man that can attain to do this things despite of the risk involved means he is a natural risk and probably he will keep doing this even after the wedding. But another factor I’m looking at is the possibility of human nature to change due to true love.

My father is once an alcoholic and gambler before he met my mother but right now he is a decent man that doesn’t drink or gamble after their marriage since this is the condition of my mother set before the wedding.

People can change if they have something more important for the, but the majority of problematic gambler doesn’t change even after the wedding so it’s a case to case basis.

What could be more heartbreaking? Saving again and then the husband to be will use it again for gambling. Cheesy It will hurt twice as much to the bride to be that's for sure.

Anyway, I just don't like the reason why the boy did it. Lessen the burden? And he chose to gamble their savings just because of that? Kind of funny TBH, but I feel sad for the girl because of what happened to them. This thread has been posted months ago, but the lesson around it is still relatable because there might be some users here who might be doing the same as what the boy did. I hope this the couple are fine by now and the boy already realized his mistake.

Lesson? Don't use gambling as a reason for you to double your money because it's risky. You can gamble sure, but don't use your savings especially if that money isn't only coming from you, but from your girl/boy as well. Smiley

Hi guys and ladies, here comes a very sad and heart-breaking story (true life confession) of a young lady who was contributing money (saving money) together with her husband-to-be (fiancée) in preparation for their wedding. The story in quote ..
-snip-
what could be more heart breaking than this?
This can be heartbreaking indeed but the intention of the guy was not bad, nonetheless, he was so foolish to have thought that gambling under desperation is a way to go by. He should have learned from the past victims before adding himself to the league of the victim. Well, I feel for the two of them, not the lady alone, especially if the guy is a good person. We make mistakes as humans, and I must say that I did a similar thing during my wedding preparation, but mine was a good story, God saved me.

The money wasn't gambled though, but was nevertheless risked. I invested the total sum in trading and I can remember vividly that I traded Crude oil and Index markets with it and I was able to generate at least 5 times the money invested. This helped me so much and saved me from financial disgrace. You can see that I know the desperation of the guy but instead of gambling with it, he could have either invested or just "cut their clothes according to their clothes." An elaborate wedding is not by force, it's the ladies that take it extended.

As it is, it will take time before the guy gains back the trust, and surely, the wedding will have to be postponed, unless they still have enough time. This is sad!

How sad, I felt very sorry for her, this is the problem caused by gambling addiction and the insatiable thirst for quick profit, this shows that the man was not mature enough to get married, stories like this happen frequently.

Just look at how Bitcoin would solve this: The bride and groom could finance a 2 - 3 multi-signature wallet, so that a trusted third party has the 3rd key needed for the signature, so that if there were any conflict, it would be mediated by that third party . This would not have happened with the money she contributed.

Many say that the couple could lose with the volatility of bitcoin, but on the other hand, she lost everything she believed in and deposited, perhaps it was the finances she had collected her entire life? From what I get it was a joint account, where both the bride and groom had access, but as it didn't have authentication protection similar to multi-signature schemes like in crypto, both ended up losing everything they had.
