When you think that God doesn't exist, you are religious.

Throughout the Old Testament God tells people to avoid contact with the spirits. Our contact is to be with God, Himself, spiritually, not other spirits, spiritually.

Everything that we do involves using the inner mind. Almost none of it involves direct, aware, observed, contact with the inner mind. It is all automatic. It is not observational contact.

Self-hypnosis opens up the observation of the inner mind, thereby taking away the automatics. This is where we let down the built-in safe-guards with regard to protection from what the spirits might tell us or suggest to us.

Actually, Jesus told everyone EXACTLY how to differentiate between good teachers and bad teachers; it's just one of those things where your skill gets better with practice. Jesus also said that you could do greater things than he did, that means that you can strengthen your spiritual connection with Father, you can use trance as a tool to reach out to GOD, and because GOD IS GOOD, he will answer your call; it will not be a scenario where you are being deceived by a demon, BADecker. What stories have you been hearing, exactly? The mental training I am familiar with does not cause such bizarre side-effects AT ALL.

In fact, all methods for contacting GOD in prayer all involve the use of the inner mind, your will is your connection to GOD, so with persistence and a bit of discernment you can strengthen your connection; GOD HEARS THE CALL OF YOUR HEART; I disagree that accessing the subconscious is dangerous because I am not aware of any cases of advanced mental training leading to psychosis (which teachers? which methods? you provided no plain examples); some people are vulnerable and need counseling, but this is not the rule; rather, the rule is that practically all will find benefits from meditation; using hypnosis to contact evil spirits is an exception, not the rule. Using hypnosis to get closer to GOD is much easier than you think, just like prayer focuses attention on one's mind and heart, so does hypnosis; in truth there is no such thing as "inner mind"; by closing off this part of your being, it is like you are restricting yourself from the innermost parts of your temple.

The danger is this. We have trouble finding truth with people. How are we going to determine truth if we contact spirits?

The inner mind has always held ways to contact spirits. The complexity of mind is one of the things that keeps spirits out. When we open up the parts of the inner to direct contact from our outer mind, we open up contact with the spirits.

We have very little control of inner mind. The spirits are often deceptive, teaching things outside of the realms of things that we can control easily. They can open us up to false things as well as true things, but we won't know the difference.

In addition, the complexity of the mind is so great that we don't easily understand what we are looking at when our inner mind feeds us some of its own data.

Stay away from contacting your inner self if you want to stay away from opening up a path for spirits to feed you their information. You won't be able to distinguish the truth from falsehood. Many people that have done this, have gone insane, or else lost control of their own thinking and belief system.

What is so scary about contacting your own subconscious? I say we should let the truth about the mind be revealed, you will not be deceived by demons if you practice self-inquiry and self-hypnosis, both are proper tools in the life of the seeker but religions will normally work to supress the truth about personal power.

The reason most formal religions don't teach self-hypnosis is that contacting your own subconscious mind can open a person up to direct contact with demons. Not that the demons are within a person's subconscious, but the contact is available in the subconscious. Some of the contact with demons will not be understood for what it is. The person has a greater chance to losing himself to direct control of the demons.

So, it is not for reasons of loss of control that religions don't teach self hypnosis. Rather, they are trying to keep the control of the person with the person rather than with demons.

Religions do not usually teach self-hypnosis for that would mean a loss of control, such methods of healing oneself require determination, you have to be determined to find out the truth about the mind-body relationship.

There is enough contradictions there to prove the falsehood of religion.
