Use different passwords for every account you use to limit any damage that can be done by hackers. Use a unique email when opening accounts on each exchange and only use that email address for that specific exchange.
Enable two-factor authentication for your exchange accounts. This adds a software to your smartphone which adds extra security to your account. Without two-factor authentication, a hacker only needs your username and password to empty your balance.
Maintain backups of your cryptocurrency wallets and recovery phrases to ensure your coins aren’t lost for good if something happens to your main device. External hard drives, USB sticks, and encrypted backup files can be used to secure your recovery options and programs like VeraCrypt can encrypt these sensitive files.

I probably will make a paper wallet for most of these for security. Some choices you can choose from: Trezor or ledger S. Smiley

You should use a paper wallet and keep it somewhere safe. Learn how to make a paper wallet by Googling. There are lots of articles available. It is never safe to store large amount of your crypto portfolio in an exchange. In fact, you should not store at any in sites which doesn't give you the control of the private key of your wallet.

Well, as it has already been noted by several other contributors, I will also add this that it's highly important to watch the kind of airdrops and some other crypto affiliated programs you will join to providing your personal details which some times are being required for by some of these scammers. Be careful and properly guided.

I  think it is the best way if you can use a hardware wallet. It will be some high cost. But if you are normally going to do crypto some years it will better. Because these days scammers are everywhere. If you have no money to buy a hardware wallet use normal wallet. But keep in mind never enter your Pvt key to anywhere.

I think hardware wallet is safest way to protect your altcoin from hacker. In my opinion, Trezor hardware wallet is the best hardware wallet to keep your tokens safe. I store all my tokens at the trezor hardware wallet. Always remember that, don't click any suspicious link that has been sent to you.

The most important thing is to carefully look at the address of the purse site and not to tell anyone the password or the private key

The best and only way not to lose your crypto is not to trust your crypto to third parties, such as exchanges and web wallets. And of course you have to sure that your private key stored safe.
I would add that storing the crypto currency on the exchange is also not entirely safe. There were very many cases when exchanges were attacked by hackers and users were losing their means. The most reliable way to store a crypto currency is your own wallet. If you want to store erc20 altcoins, then the best thing is to use the hardware wallet.

What is the best methods to protect altcoin from hacker?

To protect your altcoin with max safety, you will have a secure wallet to store your altcoins.
I suggest you to use the official wallet for your coins. For bitcoin, use bitcoin core wallet.
If you using web wallet, there is no guarantee only you know your wallet key.

Try to distribute money in multiple wallet addresses instead of concentrating on them. This will minimize the probability of being stolen.

When accessing MyEtherwallet, be sure to use a third-party key called Trezor, which is a way to ensure that your entry is safe when you access your wallet.
I've been working with cryptocurrency from a separate computer, which I did not do at all.
Keep your password out of anyone's reach. You can think about buying a hardware purse. But we must be careful in using it.

Just get an offline wallet and store them all offline, they're pretty much 100% safe then.
