Nigeria is country that is well known as a typical agricultural nation which was once the mainstay to the country economy and because of the agricultural strength of the country compel them to have their flag as Green White Green which signify agriculture and peace but it baffles me to see the level of hunger going on in Nigeria now to the extend that an average Nigerian cannot boast of feeding himself and family three square meal per day.
What could be the root cause of this hunger in a country that has all it takes including human capitals and natural resources to make a great nation that the whole would will cherish and envy.
Funny how everyone is always talking about Nigeria, well it’s true most of the things that is said about Nigeria. Sometimes I ask myself how are the talks and just talks helping or even, how are those who noticed this and that situation to the country have come to help.
There have been a shift in the minds of the ruling party of the Nigeria and it’s people to the point that, those who once suffered from the rulings of previous government, even when in power seems to do the same exact thing should they be lucky enough to handle positions of power. The corruption is no longer just at the top, it’s also at the bottom and the question is;

What are you doing about it? Or your just the party that talks and nothing more.
Help fix Nigeria, a person at a time.

Without capital investments, even Agriculture will not thrive and even with loans/supports been given to both large and small scale farmers, a lot of them have been known to divert the funds for something else. It’s just corruption and greed over again.

If I will say Nigeria from inception after the colonials masters have left the scene then it becomes an oil-centric country and not an agrarian country so till date Nigeria is not known as a agrarian economic country. Nigeria agricultural goods are not found in the world market. Nigeria Government is so much interested in the oil in the Niger Delta and leaving every other national resources.

And now if your understand history. Nigeria got her independent in the year 1960 and after the independent Nigerians were leaving very peaceful, things were very cheap and those who were in the camps were living happily without farming with suplus goods but was in necessary labour because the government was good with the citizens but now the government is self-centered. And the cause of the hunger in the country is caused by the recent past government and the present government who have no idea to govern a large number of people.

I just learnt something very important, people are bad but sometimes let's not just avoid them and throw their words away, rather as a wise person you are to grab their words look for the meaningful ones and throw the rest away if you think it is not meaningful to you. Cause not all the words of the ones you hate are important, sometimes they may not be talking to you but you can still grab something.
Why am I saying this I remember the last year of our ex president Buhari he advised Nigerians to put their focus on farming even myself I was angry why he had to advice everyone to go into farming what is the case now everyone wants to farm now as to grow their own food because of the high cost of industrial products if everyone had listened to him it wouldn't have been this worse for the common man.

Also to everyone blaming the leaders, care to explain to me why then only 26% of the citizens went to vote? Oh, crickets I'm sure!

99.9% could still vote and the votes will not count. We have a whole lot to talk about in Nigeria. If we must come together, we must dump aside affairs of religion, ethnicity, greed and a couple more. If we can do that, then we can go a long way. Also we don't need aid and support from any European or Western countries. All they're after are simply whatever benefits them.

One way or the other, the british government still benefits from the misfortunes of Nigeria because Nigeria will forever be a business ground ( Unilever )for them unless we ( BNBN's ALONE )

I'm done talking about Nigeria, I can't even fight for this country honestly, not to even sing the National Anthem. Take a look at Burkina Faso and Mali (And what they're doing to chase away the colonial masters ), until Nigerians are completely free, they'll forever have issues.

Is Nigeria not bigger and better than these nations I have just mentioned? But greed couple with betrayals serving the colonial masters would want it because of what they achieved with them families.

Proper management of natural resources is the key to this problem, because it is useless even though the country has abundant natural resources but the government cannot manage them properly. My country has abundant natural resources (such as gold, nickel and agriculture) but there are still many people who live below the poverty line. This means that the government's role in managing natural resources is also very important.
Indeed, it is very important to manage it well so that they can make good use of what they have and it is truly a shame if they have good natural resources but do not manage them well, of course this is very detrimental to themselves, so I think in this case It has become the government's responsibility to be able to properly manage the natural products they have so that they can achieve a good life and if they can be managed well, of course people will be able to enjoy their own natural products and economic turnover will also increase.
A country is bound to be beautiful when it is governed well with great transparency and accountability. But when the governing council becomes corrupt the country becomes anarchy. Man ignores his conscience to benefit himself.
Having a beautiful mind is very important to make the world beautiful. Consciousness is what distinguishes man from other creatures. But when man becomes desensitized there is no difference between man and animal.
That's what extreme hunger and poverty can turn people into. A hungry man has no conscience When people live in a country that greed abounds and the available resources are not flowing to everyone, but only few people are enjoying what is meant for everyone. Such country will not make any meaningful progress, there will be high level of lawlessness, there will be high level of criminally minded people, because everyone will be jostling for the little that's given to the masses. There will be no room for conscience, people will do whatever to improve their ling condition. But one thing is certain if the people want to change the narrative they have to take things up themselves and call the government to order. If they are still waiting for the same government who is continually putting them in such a difficult position to change things for them, I'm sorry such a thing will never happen.

greedy rich powerful people that simply do not give a fuck about common folks.
As a Nigerian, this is to best reply that summarizes the situation of my country. And to make it worse the common folks keep worshiping the greedy rich and powerful people. It is almost as if they've been held spell bound. The greedy rich and powerful people will steal the the nation's resources and impoverish the common folks,  yet they will keep cheering them on. They are like a sheep being led to the slaughter house and despite knowing their demise is near, they do not about it. The people love their chains.
Very funny but true, the problem about most poor people is that sometimes they get stucked up to poverty mindset to the extent they see themselves as people that don't have choice. They comit their lives to the rich and the rich use them and gives them peanuts. and they become stock to those things given to them by making themselves dipendent to the rich, and the rich take advantage of it and suppress them and they become blindfolded even when they are about to be slaughtered they don't care.

One perspective that I have based on this is that the poor are not slaves, but they act like they are because they work for the money while the rich make money work for them. So this is where many people take different perspectives on this concept. For instance, a poor man will work very hard just to get paid, and when he has any financial issues, he will go and borrow money from the bank or a rich man, and let's say the rich man also has the money to lend the poor man. but he will go elsewhere and borrow that money and tell the poor man that he will collect his farm produce after harvest as a return.

So here this poor farmer will be happy and admit that the rich man is his saviour, not knowing that he has made himself a slave for the man because of a small amount of money. So in here I see this happen because the poor see themselves as loyal to the money while the rich see money as their slaves, so that is where all this usually comes from. This is my perspective.

A comparison between Nigeria and Indonesia in the agricultural context shows the importance of efficient management and appropriate policies in ensuring food availability for the community. Although both countries have great agricultural potential, differences in policy approaches and implementation can affect hunger levels and the overall well-being of society.

Population in 2000 Nigeria 120 million, Indonesia 214 million
Population in 2023 Nigeria 223 million, Indonesia 277 million
One country doubled its population the other grew by only 30%.
Nigeria's density is 249 per km2, Indonesia is 145.
Indonesia has the advantage of being the second fishing production country in the world, while Nigeria barely counts in the ranking.
One country has 1/3 of its land at threat of desertification, the other has no such problem, there is simply no comparison!

Also to everyone blaming the leaders, care to explain to me why then only 26% of the citizens went to vote? Oh, crickets I'm sure!

I really agree with you, that, ultimately, the ones who must be responsible for this incident are not the farmers but the policymakers, namely the government, which they do not provide the necessary assistance to the farmers but perhaps only think about themselves and ignore what is happening.
As an agricultural country, it is clear that the people are happy with agriculture, so if the government is willing to help, it is certain that it will develop well, but if you ignore it, there is nothing the farmers can do apart from empty hopes. Everyone ends up having difficulty being able to develop in any way without help.
Government policies do not support the welfare of farmers, many government officials act as mafias selling farmers' needs at high prices, but the price of farmers' harvests is bought at low prices and the crops are exported abroad at higher prices, so where is the government's role in supporting welfare of farmers in the agricultural sector. I am very concerned to see farmers who do not make a profit after harvesting, the harvest only meets their living needs and even the harvest is not enough for savings.

It’s a shamme on the country and the leaders that claim they are leading the country. How will a country with such natural resources be suffering? It shows the leaders of the country are selfish and only after their own personal interests and doesn’t really concern themselves about the country’s development.

Nigerians are actually into Agriculture but the government doesn’t really care much about it that’s why the development level of agriculture is still far behind Nd the agricultural sector should be one the most important sectors the leaders should value more. Alot of natural resources but they are not using them appropriately to their fullest potential. Let’s just hope things will change soon and get a better and befitting leader.

Or maybe, their government is not giving the appropriate incentives to its farmers? Because if the farmers are happy with their harvest and they can get more than enough from their farm, I don't think they will go for other options that are out of reach. Because people will only find alternatives if they feel they are not getting what they deserved for their harvest. Let us accept the fact that working in a farm is a tedious job. So if the government has no programs to support their livelihood, definitely, they will find a way how to sustain their living.
If the government does not think about the fate of the farmers, they will really try to try other things that can benefit them, because if they continue to force themselves to survive in an agricultural system that cannot benefit them, this will mean that they will not have any benefits. so they have to think about changes for themselves.

When farmers consider agriculture to be a boring job, of course they don't have any support from the government either in breeding or selling the crops they produce and if the government doesn't pay attention to this, of course the farmers will try to look for other alternatives to earn income.

Even though Nigeria has fertile and productive agricultural land, there are still problems such as gaps in food distribution, lack of adequate infrastructure to transport agricultural products, as well as the problem of ineffective food policies. This makes it difficult for most Nigerians to meet their daily food needs, despite the country's agricultural potential. However, on the other hand, compared to Indonesia, which is an agricultural country, it also faces challenges in the agricultural sector, but has succeeded in keeping hunger levels relatively low through various effective food policies and programs. Despite problems such as unequal distribution and climate change, Indonesia is able to make better use of its agricultural potential. for example, Indonesia has a food self-sufficiency program which aims to meet domestic food needs without having to rely on imports. Apart from that, diversification of agricultural products and promotion of organic farming also helps increase food security and reduce hunger levels in Indonesia.
A comparison between Nigeria and Indonesia in the agricultural context shows the importance of efficient management and appropriate policies in ensuring food availability for the community. I think by now we should know that there is a poor agricultural management in the state, and still the population of the country is always increasing every day. Their are more to it but these are the 2 major reasons why the agriculture sector is not making any sense till date. However the government and most of the citizens are putting all their mindset on crude oil's business, so with all this things many farmers are no more interested on going to the farm anymore, mostly the ones that lives in a oil producing state or a place that has a lot of crude oil. Moreover, from the look of things there is no much farming tools in the country.

A country without a true and just leader will always find it hard to succeed and that is what is happening in Nigeria. If the leaders are still comfortable with the state of the country and do not look for long lasting solutions to them, it becomes very hard for the common man to think of what is for them for the future because it’s basically hoping and nothing will come into reality for them. The leaders are the ones killing the nation. A country where the true description lies in agriculture are not suppose to suffer like this but be mother to all nations around them and also those far away from them. Food security is important and since they’ve what it takes to be one, they should take it more serious and invest more in that sector than other places.

It's so sad to hear things like this is discussed about Nigeria because like the OP said, "Nigeria is a typical agricultural nation" and shouldn't be lacking behind in that sector. Who would even believe that Nigeria blessed with national resources, including good soil for farming and human resources would get to a point when hunger and starvation is becoming viral.

If you research you'll find out that Nigeria is one of the largest producers of cassava, yam, palm products and even livestocks but then the prices of those items in the market are terrible especially the processed cassava commonly known by Nigerians as Garri not to talk about egg or even rice that's largely produced in the Northern part of the country but then an average Nigerian can't afford a bag of rice.

As a Nigerian you'll begin to ask yourself, how did we get to this point? Cause there were times when those items were very cheap and affordable and the economy was stable, people could afford three square meals and even have enough to give to others but Currently it's gradually becoming survival of the fittest, it all falls back to bad governance, wicked politicians looting public funds to stay richer and allowing the poor to remain poorer.

What has hit the Nigerian people is because of the greedy and corrupt behavior of its leaders who only prioritize their personal and group interests without caring about the fate of their people. If a country is led by a greedy leader, no matter how great its natural resources are, its people will definitely be poor or hungry, as happened in Nigeria.

Yes, I am sure that what you said is the cause of the downturn experienced by the people there, or what it means is the cause of the increase in poverty is because the officials or people who have power who always act greedy in any way which may be one of them the level of corruption there is quite high, and the impact will clearly be felt by the small community.

No matter if for example they are in a country that is rich in natural resources but still greed will make everything unfair, there is no welfare if there are still high-ranking government officials who always maintain greed in themselves, there will be no justice for all its people and what happens is that the rich will even get richer.
