You have to investigate what could be the reasons behind the scarcity of food in your country. Have the population been increasing considerably in the last decades in a way the supply of food isn't enough to feed everyone anymore on the same intensity of before?

Are the productive and fertile lands too concentrated on the few hands of few local oligarchs? Are these wealthy farmers the only ones who have access to farming tools and equipments to produce in Nigeria?

Isn't the inflation out of control, what means food prices skyrocket every few days, weeks or months?

Maybe the problem isn't lack of food at all, but the costs of acquiring it that are inaccessible for most local citizens. Many of us are also facing similar situations in our native countries. Food is getting expensive, the quality of the food is decreasing, and it doesn't make sense at all, since nowadays we have technology, which in theory should be helping farmers to produce more with less effort.

What could be the root cause of this hunger in a country that has all it takes including human capitals and natural resources to make a great nation that the whole would will cherish and envy.
If I am not wrong even getting water in most part of the country is difficulty even if you're ready to pay money for it and that shows the incompetence of political leaders in the past/present. As far as I know Nigeria is country where natural resources are abundant but they took the wrong path of giving the power to companies which has only one goal of making money means politicians take money under the table and blindfold them and let the companies to exploit the human resources as well as the natural resources is the root cause of this problem.

Nigeria is country that is well known as a typical agricultural nation which was once the mainstay to the country economy and because of the agricultural strength of the country compel them to have their flag as Green White Green which signify agriculture and peace but it baffles me to see the level of hunger going on in Nigeria now to the extend that an average Nigerian cannot boast of feeding himself and family three square meal per day.

What more can one think of rather than a rich nation full of stingy governments that only thinks about themselves and their families. The common man is now allowed to wander around and make the economic condition of the country even unbearable for them to afford a three squares meal a day. A country is suppose to signify what it truly tells the world it is, but without the right people in the government, it becomes very difficult to tell what the country is really trying to portray to the world. Nigeria is not the only country that face crisis like this and mostly any other country that are facing same thing are due to bad leadership. The solution is the hands of the masses to do the right thing only is they’re not corrupt and selfish like the leaders they’ve voted in to represent them. For those that haven’t lost hope yet, hope better days comes when the country will represent what it truly portrays to the world that they are.

For a country that doesn't have winter, the country should have all the crops growing and food should be abundant. The country is just the same as other countries, it is also a developing country with all the resources they have from land to water. Its the classic poor gets poorer and rich gets richer which the poor go hungrier every day.

Those who see furthest are standing on the shoulders of others, the rich should realize why they are rich by the benefit of their nations generosity and look to secure the health of all if they wish to continue to stand tall in a rich country.

The problem I can first think of is division and the partial civil war I hear of in Nigeria is most troubling.  Not just violence but the failure to raise all people above the worst struggles in life, security is paramount to a thriving economy.   This failure to secure people literally and also monetary stability would be a big part of failure and poverty.

40% of Nigerians live below the poverty line of US$1.90 as handled by the World Bank

Reminds me of figures for India some time back that I read but they have improved while allegedly Nigeria has worsened.    Some of this will be related to the Dollar price for oil as Nigeria is a large OPEC producer but clearly the wealth is not being distributed properly to raise up all of society.

One of the factors that causes famine which makes the lives of people there increasingly complicated is due to the failure of agricultural production because investment policies in the agricultural sector do not receive attention from the government. Government policies must focus more on food production, especially since Nigeria is known as an agricultural country. Increasing investment in the agricultural sector will have the potential to increase national food resources, with a focus on increasing food yields Nigeria can take the lead in ensuring national food and even supply some international needs. A more active government role in caring for the fate of the community will increase productivity in terms of food income and can reduce or eliminate hunger in the country.

Yeah exactly. I think it is the most common reason why citizens in almost all third world countries especially farmers will remain poor and struggling forever. They get less attention and help from corrupt and greedy oligarchs. If we actually spend time to hunt anomalies I don't think we can count it by fingers. This actually happened to my country as well and I don't like the system to be honest but we are left no choice since we are not their priorities.  After the super typhoon that hit us hard way back 2021 the government promised to pay every coconut tree that was uprooted and damaged but until now there is no sign of it and financial aids here is political so yeah that's annoying.

I’m definitely certain you are not from Nigeria but you already know so much about the behavior of our leaders. It’s so unfair how one will be this selfish and be so concerned about themselves and their family and not care about the people who elected them in.

From the post title i was so sure the post was about Nigeria even without reading the body of the post

Everything is down to the mismanagement of the resources and it’s all as a result of bad governance. The level of hunger in the country is getting high and worse every year and it seems to be getting worse with every new leader elected. Now most households have now settled for two square meals per day and some even struggling to get one meal a day but the leaders are not concerned about this, they seem to be more concerned about changing the country’s national anthem instead of solving more serious problems.

The cause of all the suffering and hunger the people of the country are facing is bad governance, greediness of the people in power and corruption. Any government that doesn’t prioritize the people’s needs over their own personal interests will end up mismanaging the country’s resources.

I will let you in on a secret most countries have 2-4% of the people with great wealth this group is vicious and constantly tries hurting  the  96-98% of the poor or middle class. The has been going on for centuries.

Nigeria is rich in natural resources but due to the lack of advanced technology in Nigeria, they cannot extract those natural resources from nature. Some powerful foreign companies extract all those natural resources in exchange of money to the Nigerian government. This shows that they only focus on how to extract natural resources but they do not care about the loss of the farmers' agricultural land or water bodies due to the transfer of these natural resources. When the fertile land of a country is damaged due to various chemicals or fuel oil, then the crops will not be produced naturally in that country and if the crops are not produced in that country then it is natural that the people of that country will not eat. If the Nigerian administration including the Nigerian government were aware of this, the people of Nigeria would not have suffered so much.

As a Nigerian, this is to best reply that summarizes the situation of my country. And to make it worse the common folks keep worshiping the greedy rich and powerful people. It is almost as if they've been held spell bound. The greedy rich and powerful people will steal the the nation's resources and impoverish the common folks,  yet they will keep cheering them on. They are like a sheep being led to the slaughter house and despite knowing their demise is near, they do not about it. The people love their chains.

Easily the cause of this suffering despite many resources is corruption. Now I am not from Nigeria and if you are curious about the particular cause in Nigeria then maybe you could put this on your local board.

But as someone who is also from an agricultural country, it’s baffling to see how even our farmers are hungry. We can trace the cause back to corrupt politicians. They are not using the money supposedly to be use for the betterment of the country. It’s a complicated process. Like the farmers need support, transportation and distribution of their products also needs to be supported, consumers’ wellbeing should also be considered and etc. But everything begins at corruption.

I was not aware that there are hunger in Nigeria or at least the agriculture business is not producing enough for their population as there are reports that the country is basing their GNP on agriculture.

But just like the rest of African nature, there could really be corruption in the government and even similar to the state of some countries as well in Asia wherein everything is based on agriculture but not enough produce and they will have to import rice from other neighboring countries.

An agricultural country is one in which the agricultural aids of fertile soil, water, and suitable climate are available, but financing is still essential for agriculture, and if there is corruption, mismanagement, security instability, and greed on the part of merchants, trade will turn into a source of conflict more than a means to keep hunger away from the population.

Apart from the bad things you said, I think this effort came from the awareness of the community, initially with independent efforts and regarding the assistance provided to farmers. I think that submitting goods specifications is the same as submitting a request for ordinary assistance, which rarely happens because every procurement comes from government assistance. there is a handover report and it has gone through a special verification stage before being handed over to the public.

"Government" You have to find out what the government system is in that country so that you can find out the cause or root of the hunger problem that is hitting the people in that country. Apart from that, you also have to look at the level of laziness and skill of the citizens and research them carefully so that you can have some comparisons that can cause serious problems to arise in a country that is rich in natural resources. Because you shouldn't be confused as a result of this happening in Nigeria, because your job is to find out the cause so you can identify where the root is and where the source of the problem is.

It is very sad that something like this happens in a country where the majority are farmers, however at least people have to think about their daily food because they all have the right to live and plan their future, especially their income from agriculture, lest they be oppressed by people who irresponsible, if something like that happens then their actions are truly heinous, they should not think about themselves, there are still many people in trouble who they have to find a way out of.

What could be the root cause of this hunger in a country that has all it takes including human capitals and natural resources to make a great nation that the whole would will cherish and envy.
it's very simple. They left the agricultural sector and fucosed more on other areas of the economy and weren't even serious to reinvest the benefit they enjoyed from those sectors into the agricultural field.

Nigeria is blessed with natural resources like crude and fertile land that's good for agricultural production and in it early days, there use to be major production of almost all the things that were needed for the nation to strive alone but overtime, things has changed and the interest is now solely focused on crude oil as her primary source of income neglecting the agricultural sector. Most youths now prefer to focuse in technological sectors while the older men and woman are the once that are left to carry out farming activities with tools that are outdated and isn't good enough to produce what's enough to sustain the whole nation causing the price of locally manufactured goods to go high because of the difference between what's demanded and what's available.

The main factor that can help the agricultural sector is if it's made to become more attractive such that people will be interested in going into the sector and modern equipment are used to produce goods in higher quantity then it's most likely that the sector will gain more relevant and poverty will be reduced to a large extent in the process.
