In a case like this it will be more realistic if you check the leaders of that country. The average issue when it comes to a country’s economy is how the people in power are managing their positions. If you too find it difficult would you be permitted to start your own agriculture? So maybe you can reduce the expense of buying? Usually people in this field make a lot of money, so with the state of Nigeria as you’ve said, you could do it to make money yet feed yourself in the process.

very funny isn't it, that's the reality of living in a third country rich in resources, where your government is controlled by the private sector, because just like your country, my country also experiences the same thing where the land is very fertile but farmers and fishermen do not get proper welfare and many basic commodities have increased in price.

the problem is not in the harvest season, but in fertilizers that are expensive and controlled by the private sector, this forces farmers to increase their prices. if the community comes up with a solution to make their own fertilizer, then there is a mafia ready to come to your house, and because of that people don't want to get involved in this game, it's very sad.
Their economy is very difficult and third countries are indeed quite difficult even wanting to get out of the middle income trap is also very difficult because it will get pressure from many people and greater power so that third countries remain at the bottom and become an easy loot by private and foreigners.

In addition, the selling price is also low so it is very difficult to develop better as a lower person, even they cannot exchange at a better price so that their needs are met, what they plant does not mean that they eat because they need other things too so sell it, hunger becomes one of the sad things in an agrarian country.

Nigeria is country that is well known as a typical agricultural nation which was once the mainstay to the country economy and because of the agricultural strength of the country compel them to have their flag as Green White Green which signify agriculture and peace but it baffles me to see the level of hunger going on in Nigeria now to the extend that an average Nigerian cannot boast of feeding himself and family three square meal per day.
What could be the root cause of this hunger in a country that has all it takes including human capitals and natural resources to make a great nation that the whole would will cherish and envy.

The problems currently occurring in Nigeria actually also occur in several countries which are famous for agriculture and other agricultural products. From what we can see, this is actually the responsibility of the government concerned. When the government fails to manage a country, the impacts that occur is starvation for its population, our country is also experiencing the same thing, the economy for many citizens feels very difficult even though our country is famous for its extraordinary natural resources.

Yes this happens in some countries, they have something that is needed to make their people prosperous such as having good agricultural strength but strangely the poverty rate in the country still cannot be resolved which is even the opposite where the poverty rate is increasing, meaning that there is something odd that causes this situation to occur, I believe that the government can actually solve the problem because they have a solution to solve it such as having good economic strength which should be able to make the economy of the people progress. So in this case in my opinion something is wrong, there are some selfish people who always think of themselves by doing various ways to make themselves richer and oppress the poor, and in conclusion in this problem in my opinion the government is less assertive in implementing its regulations to prosper the community as a whole, and there is a suspicion that there are some people who have a lot of money or they are greedy rich people who are always concerned with themselves while many other people are experiencing a very concerning situation.

So nobody is going to look at the elephant in the room and straight blame the government?

How about you take into consideration that the population has doubled from 2000?
That more land is needed for housing, for roads for industry and less land is available while needing to feed twice as many people?
You have barely the same agricultural land as Ukraine but 7 times the population.

Egypt was the breadbasket of the Roman Empire because it fed 10 million people, it can't feed 100 million!
India has managed to overcome the problem of food imports, do you think they could keep growing production at the rate the population is exploding?

Unfortunately, it's sad to see the agricultural sector in such a decline. I'm unaware of how much Nigeria is depending on it, but even here in Greece, interest in the agricultural field has rapidly declined the past few years, also due to the extreme rise in tourism. The main issue usually lies with the government. Last year, we had major floods in some areas with huge environmental consequences as well, and farmers saw little to no support, while other areas, such as Crete, had very few rains, which resulted in olive trees not producing enough oil this year.

Unfortunately, it's a very complex issue, and governments are ignoring the importance of agriculture and farmers, by whom our food is grown.

We can see many causes of a country's famine, but the most obvious is that the country's economic operating system has problems. As some mentioned before, perhaps we can also understand why the problem is, like you are a person who creates a lot of food but you do not own it because of the problems surrounding society, it is no different from you being a cow that works every day but is only given what your owner is willing to give. This situation appears in many different countries and regions around the world, but perhaps talking about a specific solution to solve the problem is not easy, but as is inevitable, everything that happens will also be fought to get what people need.

It's just sad that the country of Nigeria is one of the listed poor countries, and one of their main problems there is that the agriculture they have is lacking—really lacking. Then their employee rate is still very low, in my opinion.

Also, all I know is that there are too many corrupt officials in the country of Nigeria, but if at least there were only a few corrupt officials who cared about the growth of their agriculture, for sure their economy would improve in the end.

Yes an agricultural country is a country that is quite productive in agriculture and blessed with fertile soil and whose major source of internal revenue is agriculture. But Nigeria is known as an oil exporting country and depends solely on crude oil for her internally generated revenue.Agricultural products can help in growing the country’s GDP if taking serious especially the commercial system of agriculture. And there is hunger in Nigeria even when they are known as an agricultural producing state because the country did not pay attention to farmers by supporting them with loans and other agricultural implements instead the few depends mainly on subsistence system of agriculture.

The agricultural and horticultural sectors also have a role in supporting the economic growth of a country. If the country is willing and the government cares, there are many ways it can be done, look at the Netherlands how they do it if I'm not mistaken. After Uncle Sam's country, the Netherlands is the largest exporter of agricultural products in the world.

If the produce is shared with agriculture and horticulture, I think it is possible and they only need to send delegations to learn more so that experts can be created and ultimately a lot of labor will be absorbed in this activity.

There's no country in the world today that don't have corrupt politicians to begin with.
Yes there will always be corruption in the government but there’s a difference between a government that is infiltrated by corruption and a government that is dominated alone by said corruption. A country’s economic state can be determined whether the government is actively working against corruption or enabling it even more.

Perhaps if a war should break out or the current administration is taken over by the military as seen in other countries around your country, then agriculture would be revisited and given a kind consideration as part of the sustenance of the country.
Definitely. If a war were to break out, food will be scarce and people would have no choice but to try and get food out from farming. Obviously farmers would have great advantage right off the bat.

An agricultural country is one in which the agricultural aids of fertile soil, water, and suitable climate are available, but financing is still essential for agriculture, and if there is corruption, mismanagement, security instability, and greed on the part of merchants, trade will turn into a source of conflict more than a means to keep hunger away from the population.

Blame this to your corrupt politicians , to the greedy Rich people and to the people that does not  joining together to change the system , there are people power like what had happened in the Philippines many years ago in which peaceful turning of power .
why not act the same?because if you will keep that silence then your life and your following generation will go worst more .
There's no country in the world today that don't have corrupt politicians to begin with. Even as we take a look at the U.S and the presidential election that is about to come up, a candidate like Donald Trump should have been stopped from participating due to the guilty verdict that was made on his case some days back.
Still, he still boasts about having more fans and supporters and am sure he would pull in a lot of weight against Biden and might even win if care isn't taken.

It's just funny how your once agricultural nation now invest so much in crude oil products and that has been a major source of income to mostly those marketers and top politicians who normally would have been invested in farming and agriculture to boost the economy along side the profits from crude oil as a support to the growth of the nation.

The decreasing amount of agricultural land and people preferring to work in office jobs means that villages are becoming increasingly abandoned, because they think that working in the city can change their fate, where farmers are thought to not be able to make much money. Therefore, how can the government improve the welfare of farmers, so that many people will be interested in farming. With so many successful farmers, it will be attractive for the younger generation to cultivate the land with current innovations

You also have to look at this in more detail because not all people have land that they can cultivate for any kind of farming in their own area, because those who prefer to try other fields such as working in government offices are those who mostly don't have their own agricultural land. So they choose to try in other ways, although this is also starting to be followed by people who have agricultural land because of this perception in society which has started to spread at this time.

But if what is meant is for a country like Nigeria, I think you have to research it differently because each country's economic and agricultural conditions are definitely different. Because some countries are already using more sophisticated innovations in cultivating agricultural land, but for other countries which tend to be poor, it will definitely be quite difficult to make this happen. So everyone should not assume that conditions will be the same from one country to another, especially if the interest of young people from several countries is more likely to think about other things than agriculture at this time.

Currently we can see that many people are no longer interested in becoming farmers, because why does the government not provide certainty regarding market prices, where farmers work hard from morning to evening under the hot sun but the results they will get are less than satisfactory, and this way they will get out of the agricultural zone and encourage their children to become farmers.

If the government gives the best at market prices, maybe farmers will grow even bigger, and of course they don't expect the government to fulfill their daily needs, I hope the government is sensitive to those who work as farmers, they also look for food for their families, so give it they are the best.
Maybe what you can see is only part of it and for those who have been farming for a long time and have made farming a hobby that can give them income and for those who have left farming, I think they don't love farming and they only see farming as a source of income. and if they don't get the results they want, they will leave the field.

It is true that with assistance from the government to continue taking harvests from local farmers, of course this will really help the circulation of money in the agricultural sector and this will also really help the community in getting a decent income for themselves.

Many have stated the root course of while so much hunger is hitting hard on the people, as greedy politicians and business men are the head leaders of this issue but let us not also forget that insecurities stand to be the almighty formula that has devolve and melted the agricultural produced of our nation to zero level, I was taught that the rural feed the urban cities with their produce but today in Nigeria the city who is producing nothing apart from manufacturing the raw materials that is produced by the rural is the one feeding the rural without even a raw materials tell me how the nation with this kind of situation will be.

The looting or embezzlement of our leaders wasn't today but the worst that has course this very mess is allowing the insecurities to stop local producers of food mostly the rural farmers citizens wouldn't have have felt much if the local vendor are producing enough food, in my opinion while we talk about politicians greed, businessmen, we should add insecurities also.

greedy rich powerful people that simply do not give a fuck about common folks.

It is very sad that something like this happens in a country where the majority are farmers, however at least people have to think about their daily food because they all have the right to live and plan their future, especially their income from agriculture, lest they be oppressed by people who irresponsible, if something like that happens then their actions are truly heinous, they should not think about themselves, there are still many people in trouble who they have to find a way out of.
Even though Nigeria is called the giant of Africa because of its larger economy and population, as well as its economic growth, even though the poverty rate in Nigeria is higher than in South Africa. But the country has always struggled, even though there is little that conflict-affected citizens in Nigeria can do. Apart from its greedy government, this country is also always hit by a hunger crisis due to the never-ending conflict so that many people are displaced. The problem of hunger is a problem that is currently difficult to overcome because the problems that occur there are very complex. In fact, I once read an article that people in northeastern Nigeria always face a very serious food crisis and hunger, this all happens because of the increasing conflict and farmer migration that is occurring.

Maybe one way to end this hunger crisis is to return people to their hometowns, so they can open new agricultural land and achieve food security. The government must also be self-aware and think about its people, not itself and its groups.
