My journey started on Sep 21, from Boston to NYC, flight to Egypt then Turkey, back to Boston! Carrying $100 just in case and 3 bitcoins in my wallet!

Fuck If I will ever carry credit card, or cash any more:

1- I used Localbitcoins for cash! Search for best local currency rate!
2- How much I save from credit card fees and Fiat exchanges: $305.
3- Is it save to deal with Localbitcoins in person overseas? Yes, so amazing nice guys, you are making friends Smiley

You should try it! & $100 stayed with me! and I spent less than 1.9 btc in both countries!!!

Well, it is not a shocking scenario for me after all since bitcoin can be really used up into different purpose of usage depending upon the user or the owner of the bitcoin holding he have. Bitcoin usage in western countries you have recently travelled is really in a wide use. Well, it is really interesting that you have kept into yourself the $100 you have and used up bitcoin to prove that bitcoin can be used as a term of payment not just for online purchase but also for travelling.

Compare rates on different exchanges & swap.
Wonderful stuff!
Wonder what currency you sold your coin for in Egypt. Dollars or Egyptian currency? If Egypt's,  I assume the currency was received in person at specific locations in Egypt. Localbitcons is really an awesome site

This has given me an idea for my Thailand travel soon. I will be going on a vacation with my fiancee and I will be trying this. Hope I get lucky and have someone local I could contact and exchange my bitcoins from. Currently you are a rock star in this forums with your travel adventures my friend.

This is some kind of a test as well if there are many people who are already using bitcoin and as a result, you were able to save some unnecessary fees because of bitcoin. This is an inspiration as well to the people who would like to travel in other country using only bitcoin since bitcoin is use worldwide so there would be possibility that in every place you go, you can spend bitcoin directly to pay or find someone who will buy your bitcoin in exchange of their fiat currency there. Maybe one day, I would try this but for now, I would just accumulate as much as I can.

If you dont count hotel and airline, my whole trip to EGYPT( Food, traveling between, gifts) costed me $275 ( which is almost the fees I would pay with card and currency exchanges)

It is dirt cheap now, but not an ideal holiday destination for Westerners. < Political instability and ISIS are still active in these regions > People I have spoken to, says unemployment & crime increased and the situation on the ground is still very volatile. How did you experience this during your trip?

Did you find any merchants that accepted Bitcoin as a payment option or did you have to convert to fiat, before you could buy or pay for anything?

Go ahead and tell me how safe is Las Vegas! This crap you hear on tv not is true! none.

- The guys I exchanged with did mention couple of restaurants and even a hotel in Turkey accepting btc, but i went with fiat honestly! More choices!

Those are definitely some nice savings, I wouldn't have thought that you would've saved that much on fees alone, but exchange rates can be expensive indeed.

You exchanged Bitcoin for cash in Turkey? Did you feel safe at all transactions, I think I would be pretty nervous tbh...
You probably picked sellers with a lot of good reviews, at least I hope so?

You also left when the price dropped significantly, did you panic when you saw the price dropping right before your vacation?

-I was a little bit freakin out while it was dropping, but i was not exchanging a lot ..Just enough for 2 days, then exchange again.

- Turkey is safer than Washington DC.

- Yes, good reviews, and have their phone number listed and shown.

So, every single online buying of Bitcoin, at all these locations for you, has been at higher than the market price? Plus, you have traded at higher than the market price, plus another 4% because you said you have beaten the ATM fees, and plus 6% to cover the fees that you spent to move Bitcoin into the local exchange. So, localbitcoins has been able to, at all these locations, give you trades to FIAT at $4500 per coin, what it the method of payment that you have been using?

1- Face to Face means you are not even using Localbitcoins, most of these guys have their phone listed! So you call and meet! You send from your wallet to their (bypass Localbitcoins)

2- Face to Face means I am selling and you are buying on real time value.

That is so cool for you to have been able to do that and its much more interesting to share your escapade and how far bitcoin had gone eben beyond places that are popular in the crypto space. It signal to one effect which is, bitcoin is present in most countries of the world.

The journey might be smooth considering where you are a citizen and the proposed country of destination which might not be same for a foreigner entering America. I have seen people going into the states turned back at point of entry because they don't have enough cash to sustain them for the intended stay. Even with several amount as bitcoin which its yet to be recognised, I doubt if its going to be as easy as you had it.

A common question at customs well travelling, is how will you be paying for things or if you have access to funds so that you are not a potential liability on the visit. Most places would still be flagging you by mentioning bitcoin sadly.

this is interesting story, i wish i can travelling like you once i have much of bitcoin. i think its been fun to go to some place and we can pay every thing with bitcoin although you use localbitcoin as third party service but its fine. and yes like you said, we can save more fiat if we can use our bitcoin especially if the price is in high price like now.
