Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra were supposed to open the batting. The New Zealand management wanted to test Will Young, which I think was a bad choice. These two guys have been training and practicing together since Rachin Ravindra was just a teen. I heard it when the commentators were discussing his debut and his identical chemistry with Conway. I also saw how these two guys complement each other with the number of runs scored by each one of them.

NZ won the match with 14 overs remaining and by 9 wickets and to be honest it is kind of revenge from them for what happened in 2019 world cup final.

I didn't expect the NZ batting will be this much amazing especially the 23-year-old boy Rachin Ravindra scored 123* along with Conway 152* took the match away from English men and put them under heavy pressure on both batting and bowling department for the upcoming matches.
It was really great to see how the New Zealand team improved their batting performance in today's match. Match winner by 9 wickets in 36.2 overs, truly amazing today's match which New Zealand showed to everyone. In the 2019 World Cup, New Zealand and England played a thrilling match, both teams were in great form but unfortunately New Zealand lost. When the match was drawn, England won against New Zealand due to Super Over, accordingly New Zealand got revenge on England today match.
Rachin Ravindra The young player blew everyone away with his first ever World Cup century, Rachin Ravindra's batting performance in today's match has earned him a place in the hearts of the audience. Scoring 123 runs off 96 balls in the first World Cup at the very beginning of the World Cup is not that easy, but Rachin Ravindra has done it. Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway combined to win against the English very easily.

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 has ended all the wait. In the opening match of the mega event, the two finalists of the last edition, New Zealand and England, entered the field. However, New Zealand won the toss and invited England to bat. England decided to bat first on New Zealand's invitation. Batting first, England collected 282 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 50 overs. New Zealand came to the field with a target of 283 runs, and at the moment, New Zealand has collected 176 runs in 23 overs, losing 1 wicket. But New Zealand is performing well in today's match. New Zealand can easily meet the target of 283 runs given by England. At the moment Conway has collected 92 runs off 75 balls. At the top, Rachin Ravindra scored 86 runs off 69 balls. We can see centuries from these two very soon. Also, I predict that today's match will start with the victory of New Zealand.
Your prediction was right buddy. Today match, New Zealand won this match from England team simply and if we check dashboard New Zealand loss only 1 batsman W.Young he played only 1 ball and out by scoring 0 runs. Only two batsman plenty for whole team of England. D.Conway scored 152 runs in 121 balls and they hitted nineteen 4s and three 6s with not out and other batter R.Ravindra managed to score 123 runs in 96 balls and they hitted eleven 4s and five 6s with not out and in bowling side R.Ravindra also took 2 batsman of England team and M.Henry bowlers also took down 3 batters of England. Congratulations New Zealand for winning this first match of World Cup by 9 wickets and 82 balls left

The seating arrangement is more than 130k which is why the stadium seems empty. I am watching the match on Hotstar and I can see 44L showing up now. People are crazy about T20 cricket only a few like you and I are the ones who watch ODI. Watching the way England spinners are getting whacked for 4 and 6, I do not agree with your analysis. It is all about captaincy and discipline when it comes to bowling. Might as well say, what a fantastic debut by Ravindra.
Yeah, that's why i said "Obvious reasons". Also, i heard that for this particular opening match. BCCI gave 20k free tickets to women and kids and still, it's not even half full. Tells you a lot about the current situation of cricket. It's an ICC tournament so every board has the responsibility to create hype in their respective countries so that fans can travel and support their teams. We can obviously make a list of why the opening match looking dull.

True, it does look like it. Surely smooth sailing for Kiwis against English spinners.
This was one of the worst start of this world cup because I have feeling mostly understand there is no India involved in this match so having this here is no good deal because even we have 30K fans but still this was looking empty which create big negative impact on this mega event around the globe.

BCCI and ICC needs to understand ground realities and having a match like this in a small ground could also work for them, and surely we have good atmosphere, but they have done poor things which are surely going to have negative impact.

Now tomorrow we are going to have same situation again while Pakistan will play against the Netherlands which is going to be another dull encounter between these two sides even now I have feeling mostly matches without India surely going to have same problem.

The first match of the World Cup England vs New Zealand match has started. New Zealand batted first and collected 282 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. England's batting line was bad in today's match. If England could have set a target of 350+ we would have seen a competitive match. Batting with a target of 283 runs to win, New Zealand have so far scored 143 runs for the loss of 1 wicket in 18 overs.  New Zealand's first wicket fell early, with Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra leading the team with a 133-run partnership. We can see T20 style batting in today's match. Devon Conway unbeaten on 73 runs off 54 balls, Rachin Ravindra unbeaten on 69 runs off 53 balls. New Zealand will win today's match very easily.

It was very exciting to see the final of 2019 today, the New Zealand had their revenge today. It was the biggest shock for the team England, the first match itself New Zealand had said the England. The New Zealand is not the old New Zealand in 2019,this match prove the other team about the slot for the New Zealand in the Semi Final of 2023.Conway game was always good and same was repeated today. But the Ra-Chin had their unique game today. It was spread in the social media,Rachin was name come from the Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar by the parents of Rachin. This league Sachin place was replaced by the Rachin and we need to wait till the 48 matches for his complete game.

^^ Kiwis were fooling around for a whole year and then the World Cup came and in an opening match they are back to their usual business by beating heavyweight comprehensively.

Deven Conway and Rachin Ravindra did their job clinically but I think the bowlers did a fair amount of heavy lifting today. Restricting English batters with an under par score is no joke IMO.

From England's POV, maybe dew came into the picture in the second inning. If this trend sets in then teams batting second might get an advantage but it's a first match so we have to wait and watch.

Feels so happy about the comprehensive win by New Zealand. This is more like payback for what happened during the final of 2019 ODI Cricket World Cup. Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra treated the England bowlers like they are some club players. The much hyped Mark Wood returned figures of 5-0-55-0. This is the same bowler who had an excellent stint with the IPL just a few months back. Also, credit needs to be given for the New Zealand bowlers. They never allowed the England batsmen to recover. Matt Henry, Mitchell Santner and Glenn Phillips were exceptional today.

This game as per my understanding has gone out of the hands of the England team. Another 10 overs left for this match to end with they way these guys are batting now.

Around 30k spectators in the stadium but the stands are still looking empty for obvious reasons. It doesn't look like an opening match of the ODI WC, having said that 30k audience for non-indian match in India is not bad, in most stadiums it's a full house. Still, ICC should've opted for a different stadium.

Coming to the match, I didn't feel the urge to watch the match but it seems spin played a big role in the first inning. Poms do look short here and Kiwis are marching nicely but in the middle overs Moeen-Rashid duo can slow the game, hope it goes to the wire.

Joe Root was leading the team's score by keeping one end in a regular procession of batters. However, this top-order batsman was caught in his own trap by New Zealand's part-time bowler Glenn Phillips. After Root's dismissal with a personal 77 runs, England fell short of the dream of a big collection. In the end, the English made a challenging collection of 282 runs for 9 wickets in the allotted 50 overs thanks to Liam Livingstone's 20, Odd's 13 and Adil Rashid's 15. With a target of 282 runs, New Zealand batting with intensity, their game looks like they are very close to victory. If they can bat well then it is more than possible to win this match.

It is very likely that today's match will be very tough for England as England have lost four batsmen in their top order but none of the three batsmen could score a half century/century. England will need a long partnership to make a good target but it is easy to guess that England's batsmen are under pressure from New Zealand's bowling department. England fell by 4 wickets for 119 runs which is an indication of how well England's next batsmen will do.
England posted 282-9 in 50 overs against New Zealand. Joe Root out in 77 by 86 balls and Jos Buttler is out 43 runs in 42 balls and with the support from the tail-enders, England reached a decent total. New Zealand need 283 to win the opening match. NewZealand have successfully limited the reigning champions to a modest 300. M. Henry took 3 wickets 3-48-10 and M. Santner also picked 2 wickets his bowling figure is 2-37-10. I think NewZealand have strong chance to win this match.

With a target of 283 runs, New Zealand came into bat in the second innings where they managed to score 67 runs at the end of 8 overs after losing one wicket. England bettors today might be tensed right now as England's first innings collection is not at all strong. England scored only 282 runs on a batting friendly wicket. The way New Zealand are batting, if they don't lose wickets too quickly, they will reach their target in forty overs. Even if England can't do well in batting, they must do well in bowling. Apart from bowling economically, if they can pick up some important wickets very quickly, then maybe England can come back in this match.

Excellent captaincy by Tom Latham with good support from the bowlers. Kane Williamson's absence could help the Kiwi side as they now have a higher chance of winning this match. At first, in the early stage of the game, the English batters looked confident and a target of 300
runs or more was looking possible. Now it is clear the target is not 300 but 283 and this target can make a big difference in this game if NZ batters can bat sensibly.

England did miss Ben Stokes as he could have made the present target look different. He is a well-known all-rounder and he could have contributed through his batting and bowling today. At the moment the match does favour the Kiwis.

However, in today's match, if England cannot give a target of more than 250 runs, then there will be a possibility of defeat by New Zealand.

Their run rate after 40 overs was pretty much decent. They could have easily scored a hundred more runs in the last ten overs. But the only problem is they lost wickets on several occasions. Joe Root was doing very well. He needed to finish the innings to build a respectable score on this pitch. Now I feel like they won't be able to score 300 runs from there because they already lost seven wickets. They have seven overs in hand as well. I won't be surprised if their tail-enders start hitting boundaries as they are not a team like Bangladesh who will collapse in two overs. I don't know why I am criticizing Bangladesh here. LOL

At this time cricket posts are at their peak because of the World Cup. The warm matches were finished and now the actual matches of the World Cup have been started. The New Zealand bowling is going very well, and I hope it will go.

On the other hand, England's batting is also very good. Kane Williamson didn't play today's match. This thing hurt New Zealand the most. Smiley

New Zealand is bowling really well, another wicket is gone. Butler is out without scoring a 50, good bowling by Henry. Kane Williamson did play the practice match, not sure why he skipped the first match. England was in serious trouble, both Butler and Root were starting to form a good partnership. Root is still batting but he doesn't look aggressive for now, maybe he wants to get to his century first before opening his hand. They have lost 5 wickets and have managed to score 189 runs.

I am not sure whether they can perform well without Kane Williamson. England is inching towards a good total, thanks to the 5th wicket partnership between Jos Buttler and Joe Root. The New Zealand captain is sticking with James Neesham, rather than using wicket-taking bowlers such as Mitchell Santner or Matt Henry. And I don't understand why Rachin Ravindra was picked ahead of Ish Sodhi. The latter was a much better bowling option, and Rachin got the nod probably because he is a better batsman.
