If you buy from ICO and ICO is successful you have a very high chance that you make profit right after exchange phase. But you can also find a project that is not successful in ICO and fall down in exchange. This is not a definite win situation, you should measure everything about the project and check collected number in ICO. I'd prefer ICO stages if project is legit and offer something exciting/new.

chances are many people choose ICO because without the deposit we can get free tokens after we complete the tasks given to every company.
Can you differentiate on whats ICO and whats a bounty program? If not then let me tell you this that bounty Campaigns or programs is always been part of a project which it is talking about the marketing of such project like advertising on all mediums, signature, social, translations and lots of stuff which this is one of the ways on where they do pay participants on their own token but talking as an ICO investor you are solely contributing on such project. If you are aiming for profits then ICO investments are worth but only to those projects which do have potential and making profits isnt possible not all the times.

The most ICOs that are very overhyped are no worth to buy it in the ICO because a lot of people dumping it after the ICO and the most projetcs (70-80%) are going ti dip under the ICO price for a while. So its better to grab it cheap! Smiley
There is a difference between being overhyped and being hyped, a coin that is hyped is a coin in which I will be interested since that means there is real interest of the community in the project, these kind of projects have a tendency to go up immediately after the ico so you can get some easy profits, now if the project is overhyped that means there is an effort to make this project seems as if it has a lot of interest but that is not true, projects like these do badly after the ico, learning to differentiate them is crucial if you want to make money with icos.

The scenario the OP painted above happens to coins that struggle to get listed on exchange and got listed on Etherdelta, there is low volume on ED and the price suffered because of the flippers looking to get into a new thing in town

definitely buying during ICO is more profitable as you get the lowest rate + bonus... Its very rare that some coin dip so hard after ICO that you eventually end up buying it below ico price.. it happens but not that often.

this is a topic that I was asking a few days ago, it was good to find this thread and read the various opinions

At the moment, I try to invest tokenomy ( my local cryptocurrency ) as I believe they because they provide clear roadmap and very solid team. But I'm still feel risky

if they have a solid team and the team members are not anonymous and have a decent budget for advertising, then the future may reserve some good surprises, the problem is projects that do not even have a good idea, team members are anonymous, do not have funds for a marketing campaign are limited to post news on twitter and are not even active in the forum or other social networks

How often does the price get lower than the ICO price when a new coin is listed on its first exchange house ?

How come there are coins that are worth like 0.0004 $, usually during an ICO one coin is sold in the range of 1$ or not ?

Do some "coins" skip the ICO stage ?

buy later on the exchange because now altcoin is being dropped then most likely the price of coin will be under ico, and now also a lot of scam ico who can spend your money, so so safe better buy after going down to market

if to choose it I will choose ico to be made as an option because by buying in ico we will get a low price and far when the coins have entered the exchange, but when buying in ico we must be careful and carefully choose a good ico because ico not can provide good predictions.

Depends by the ICO . If is a simple ICO with no advantages for blockchain or community you should wait for any exchange and wait at least 1 week to see how will be going with the price . If is a awesome ICO and you really have trust in their idea you should go for ICO investment Smiley

I think it makes more sense to buy later on exchange it is already dump until the logical product comes out. in this way i do not enter any ico.

Of course to buy at ICO profitable. Prices are at least 2 times more expensive after the release of no exchange.

But there is a downside it's big risks.
After all, if the coin is already trading it means the project has already started and you can safely invest. Not afraid that tomorrow the project will become Scam this rarely happens after exchange.

Well icos can surge in value once they get listed in exchanges so definitely, its profitable to buy at ico stage. The thing is, with the big number of icos now, it will need serious study to determine if the ico can be a scam or not. There are scam icos that may seem legitimate at first so be cautious with studying where you'll invest

everything depends on a particular project. some projects are steeply rising in price, after ICO, the other projects vice versa.
Plus ICO is that they give bonus tokens.

After the ico when a certain coin hits an exchange, normally the value of the coin drops at around half of the ico price due to the dumping of coin holders. But if the coin of a certain project which has a great idea and is doable with very high probability of execution because of a good team, then surely that coin will recover its lost value and even attain a far greater value than its ico price.

Usually after ICO the price of the coin goes up significantly. People have long realized that this is the best strategy if the project is strong. But it happens that the price goes down often it happens if a project is weak.

For the last question, yes there are coins that are not offered through ICOs. Some are offering them through airdrops and are accepting donations instead. For the first couple of questions, I think that for the most coins, the price in the exchanges will be cheaper than the ICO price in the early days or even weeks or months of listing. But of course this will be highly dependent on the coin itself, and the project of course. For the coins that are highly in-demand and have an almost instant sold-out in their ICOs, the early days in the exchanges might still be in-demand, therefore more expensive than the ICO price.

During the bull market, much better to buy tokens on ICO especially for strong projects. Demand for new projects is overwhelming right now!

It would depend on the coin because if you see that the coin is already in demand in the ICO phase then there is a possibility of it to go higher when it hit exchanges especially if there are specific countries that are banned to participate in the ICO so they would buy upon hitting the exchanges. It would depend then in the supply and demand because those that bought in ICOs usually have bonus so if they want to sell their coin immediately when it is listed in exchanges then they can do so as long as they have profits. Some of the bounty hunters as well would sell their coins upon receiving it causing the price to go lower that's why some prefer to buy after ICO because they can have more coins.
