Well, well, well... I am back for an update.

Originally (in Post #1) sold my house for approximately $400,000 Canadian, and got approximately 648 BTC in the transaction. BTC is currently at approximately $450 US each. This makes my investment worth $291,600 in U.S. Dollars. Now also note that the Canadian Dollar has tanked really hard in the last year and is now at a 12 year low, around .72c US. That makes my Bitcoin currently worth $405,000 Canadian!. I am currently up on my initial investment! I did weather the storm when it sat at $200 for a long time (and crapped my pants from time to time and did a lot of drinking), but now my time has come. For all those that laughed, we will see who is laughing in 2016!

Yet you are greedy, and therefore you will loose your assets in the future. Diversify your investment, and trade antizyclic! Do it with rebalancing your assets! And stop drinking!

Bitcoin are not lotto tickets, if they were we would all be on  the lottery forum figuring out how to win it....

Lottery is like a tax for stupid people, statistics prove  you are more likely to be struck by lightening TWICE Than win the lottery ONCE........

The odds of 650 odd bitcoin being worth a princely sum are very high by comparison
If you don't believe me, give me 650btc and I'll buy you 650lottery tickets
Wink

Would love to see the calculation behind your odds. Roll Eyes

Can't waste time on someone who didn't even take the time to learn the fundamentals
If you think the lottery is so great, why don't you swap your btc for lottery tickets?

You don't even believe your own bulls hit... Lol
I never said that the lottery is great, what are you talking about?

Oh waw that is really brave, well I hope for you that you can make more profit with bitcoin in the future.
I wish that I one day I can buy a house just using bitcoin. Because I hold now some, maybe I will get lucky in the future.

Well, the fact that you haven't dumped all your crypto even during the pretty serious collapse of value in january 2015, proves that the phenomenom 'weak hands' is utterly unknown to you. You initial move was indeed very risky but looks like you might be in for (perhaps gigantic) profits. Good luck and HODL tight ... !

Not true, most ppl are not playing with $400k invested here in btc.. to the OP.. that same home probably is worth upwards of $600k now in this bubble REI.

Yeah right... the house did not appreciate by 50% in two years. But I'm pretty confident his bitcoins will be worth well over that.

Good job OP, you are my hero
Oh you dont understand rei in vancouver bc then.

I did hear about this story and was in shock when I just read how much you got for it.
When I saw spotted it briefly I just saw the headline of house for sale for bitcoin but didn't know how much you sold it for. Over 2 years later, I am astounded how much you got for it.
I do hope you held on to it for that long and haven't spent it or put it into any shady investment scams.
Well wishing and happy holidays too you, the price of it now should be a well deserved Christmas gift to you!

Sometimes it's great to read stories like that to get some perspective. Many of us just have 1 BTC and many even less and worry about it all the time even if we know selling it won't change anything in our lives. Perhaps in the future it might but not right now at the current value.

I'm glad OP came back and posted an update.  That's a crazy amount of bitcoin and it was super risky, but I'm happy he managed to make a profit on it.  Must be a relief, right?
The house was inherited from his father so the risk wasn't exactly high for him.  He had zero dollars invested, and took a chance on bitcoin rather than fiat.  Still pretty cool to stick to your guns, and hold on to the coins!

Keep holding through 2016 and beyond, and you'll be even happier with the decision!

Good things come to those who hold.

Some people would say exactly the same of owning a house, that its better then cash.     I think the main point was he didnt need or have time to keep it particularly

I think it was near parity at some point, because of the vast assets Canada has and not actually many people I think this tied to the oil price and maybe that oil pipeline being turned down didnt help either

Wow, impressive that you kept your cool during the loooong 200-300 range phase.. Too bad you dient sell half a year later, you wouldve more Than doubled right now with the current valuation of the canadian dollar.

Youll be a happy man next year, thats almost certain!

That's true that the amount would have been double. But due to the volatility of bitcoins, one cannot be certain that the price will increase or decrease and especially since OP sold his house, it would be right for him to sell those bitcoins at the time he got them. For investment can wise.
