It can't because bittrex just a small exchange site right now and it will not give a huge impact like what has already done by coinbase. For those are buying ETC right now and they will cry later because it goes down to the bottom as soon as possible. I just say this based on the my TA. Though there are good news like bittrex adds ETC USD markets on August 20 but it can't avoid the drop.

I think that you should invest in the bitcoin as we have seen an increase in the price of bitcoin recently though it is in low now but it will rise again. But it is you decision and you can choose any but I will support for bitcoin.
